Autopsy Round 8 : Hawks strangle Giants

I am a regular attendee to Home games but yesterday I could not get out of family commitments.
Saw most of the match on TV - but that does not help attendances.
Mother's day is an extremely difficult day to please the family.
Well said and I’m sure thousands of other supporters would agree. I’m guessing the club would have thought the same - that time slot on Mother’s Day was a shocker in terms of getting all the supporters to the ground. We got the 4 points off a genuine premiership contender, they all wrote us off before the game and all the media can talk about is the attendance.

It's pretty funny. The two focal points of the media narrative is that GWS played **** and can't play at the MCG (which to be fair they did) and that the crowd turnout was poor. Absolutely no credit was given to the effort of our players - when the widely accepted narrative was that we would get destroyed - or Clarkson's dismantling of Leon Cameron in the coaching box. In the show with Bartel/Lloyd/Barrett they made one offhanded comment about our win then immediately plunged into the Richmond win. One article even brought up our age profile again - despite the fact we were playing multiple players under 25 with less than 50 games. I wonder if there will be crickets if we beat Richmond.
SEN/Whateley gave us about an hour of the first 90 mins all positive about us and Clarko’s ‘masterclass’ . To be fair I’m normally pretty critical of him ( Geelong bias ) but it was all praise to us in the discussion

Well worth a listen too

Re scheduling- the AFL are pisssed that Jeff keeps digging the heels in about Tasmania and will not give up the millions and allow another club to waltz on in.

Sunday 3.30 are the graveyard slots in Melbourne that nobody wants and we have a heap this year.

I recall the Dees owned this graveyard slot for many years when they winning wooden spoons for fun....

Finishing 4th last year must have given the AFL the impression we would finish last this year perhaps 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Watched the replay again this morning

Just loved the even contribution across the ground and the young players playing well.
Scrimshaw is going to be an absolute steal for us .

I really think we fell for the playing injured/underdone players in games so far , pick your best fit side and the performance and consistency improves

Crazy comment. We need the coin
like every other club.

If we are lucky enough to have a bunch of supporters that basically donate $200 a year then we are very lucky!!!!

When I was single and without kids then Thursday-Sunday bring it on I am there.

Priorities change and getting to a footy game sometimes is not priority one especially at 3.30 on a Sunday arvo when it is Mother’s Day .
It is merely an observation, the more I think about it the more I think our supporters have lives outside of footy. Your Pies or Tigers supporter base are the lower socio economic of the community and have nothing else better to do but turn up to the footy as it is basically there livelihoods. It's why they always turn up in droves. Was told this by a mate when I asked about attendances today.

I am sorry, but for what it is worth, I passionately disagree.
So many of our supporters are fair weather, I get Mothers Day and the time slot, but a genuine top four supported Club would do better. The MCC expected 27k.
14000 for a so called top four club, is an utter, utter disgrace. Mother’s Day or not !! It is a convenient excuse. Any wonder this Club nearly merged. I was intensely involved in the merger debate and this effort by so called Hawthorn people is the epitome of why we were a candidate.
80000 members, I am sorry it is a disgrace.

I know this view will rankle a few, but that crowd was a massive disappointment. I will duck for cover now.
I don’t know why you’re surprised or outraged.

We have 4 flags in the last 10 years. We’re spoilt and we generally pick and choose when to turn up.

Even when we were winning games end on end our supporters took it for granted.

No Hawthorn supporter should’ve been surprised that the string of 3:20pm games was going to see that extended to even poorer crowd on a day like Mother’s Day.

Relieved that Frawley didn't cop a suspension. Not that what he did deserved one. Just because it highlighted that those shitty advertising screens probably constitute an unsafe work environment.

This thread seems to be down a few posters compared to the last two....

I'm pissed that I went last week and couldn't go this week, would have been a great way to avoid the in laws :p

Loved the intent by the boys yesterday, exaxctly what was ordered.

FWIW the bookies were a lot more confident than a lot of posters (myself included) the game was going to be close. Was only a 8.5 line on sportsbet in favour of gws

Mother-in law lives in Yarra Junction what am I supposed to do, book a chopper and fly in after lunch? Sometimes family comes first, happy wife, happy life.

Have to agree Topiary, a significant amount of our supporters are quite wealthy and would much rather watch us on TV in a trendy cafe in Camberwell than turn up to the game. Happy to pay their memberships every year but can't be arsed rocking up to support the team. Hate these type of supporters.

I’m sure they would be more than happy to keep their wallets in their pockets.

It would seem the gloves have come off between the hawks and the afl and I’m fully supportive of their comments on attendance at this game

In saying that our attendances at games outside these time slots aren’t that flash either and excuses don’t really cut it when you see other sides supporters rocking up

Reckon the afl would love to see bombers at the mcg and hawks at marvel

MRP/tribunal is a joke of the same proportions as the umpiring these days
Gary Ablett’s 2 elbows over 2 weeks were powder puff and I am fine with him getting off (though he should have gotten a 2nd fine for rough conduct after his 2nd elbow), but Nat Fyfe’s hit had the potential for serious damage.
A fine at the least, 2 weeks at the most. Probably should have been a week. Result: “No case to answer because there was insufficient force to constitute a reportable offence”... this makes no sense. Why are people reported and rubbed out for weeks for tripping when there is insufficient force to create an injury? Answer: because of the potential for serious injury. Yet Fyfe gets off Scot-free. I have been a fan of the new tribunal system with Christian to date, but this has the AFL’s publicity departments fingerprints all over it.

Note: I am a huge of Nat Fyfe fan and think he typically plays the game fairly.

Could someone with video talent put James Cousins elbow, Ablett’s elbows and Fyfe’s elbow in sequence. My bet is that, given the choice of which elbow to take, none would choose Fyfe’s.

Whateley gets on the radio this morning and drives the agenda for Ablett and then gets on Foxtel and does the same thing tonight. What a clown!!!
