Wow. Was the 50 for hitting the ball out? They didn't blow the whistle til way later. Also the clock stopped when the Saints girl lined up with 1 min 40 odd to go. Added atleast 20 secs to the game.

It was against Shierlaw for holding the Giants player off the ball who was trying to run forward into the fifty

Considering the 50m penalty Xenos got in the same position on the ground, the umpires could've paid that late one against either Jakobsson or Shierlaw.

But what a wacky finish. Besides Grierson's failed torp, it didn't even look like the Giants were interested in taking the game on in the dying minutes. Now they find themselves just outside the top 6 (on paper). Based on tonight they'll be no match for Carlton, though I'm hoping Beeson and Dalton will be back for that game.

Is it possible Fox paused the TV clock for 20 seconds to make up for a moment earlier in the quarter when they incorrectly let it run?

Wouldn't be the first graphic they stuffed up for the night. Not sure where they were pulling the goalkicker stats from but, to clear up any confusion about that, here's the actual leaderboard:

I don't think the umpire blew time back on.

The TV clock is taken from the official game clock though, it's not done by the broadcaster (otherwise there would always be huge differences as you could gain/lose half a second every stoppage if there were 2 separate times taken). But yes the clock kept running for a while after that free out of the center. But there didn't seem to be a time on called.

Dunno how Shierlaw was holding that player off when she was on the StK goal side... looked more like the GWS player stopping Shierlaw running to defend. Maybe Shierlaw tossed her away or manhandled her after the footage cut away... Couldn't tell. But her tears post siren showed she was probably feeling it was her fault.

Where did they get these umps from? No idea about the game. 4 points decided by them.

Can't really blame them for not being good enough, it's their employers fault.

Plenty of "please explains" to the AFL from this match.

Fremantle v Adelaide a tough one to tip now with Bowers also missing due to what sounds like a similar knee issue keeping Phillips out. Key phrase being "sounds like" because I'm very sceptical either club is being fully forthright.

Lucky the Lions are playing away this round.

2 joke 50m dees goals

Other than those i reckon we played better that half
The fifty's were there, the problem was the Umpires only applied the letter of the law for Melbourne's benefit. Hanks encroached into the protection zone but no fifty was applied, as did Daisy, and Randall was bumped and lost the ball, and no fifty was applied.

You know Richmond are going to be vulnerable with Lavey out and McKenzie sore. To not even fire a shot against Geelong (who themselves didn't get the best out of Morrison or Prespakis), however, is verging on a new low. 170 disposals, outworked by a hungrier team on the day.

I don't think yesterday's matches between the top teams hinged on effort though, except maybe a lack of effort in making tactical changes! Too often in those arm wrestles, the coaches of the teams who can't get the ball inside 50 for long stretches are just deluding themselves until it's too late.
