Game Day Round 8 Showdown

We were good enough to beat Hawthorn in Melbourne. We were good enough to pummel Geelong here. We are good enough to beat the crows.

I've liked our build up this week, no "We hate the crows" crap that Davies was so fond of, no overplaying the game, just recognition that is another important game to win and to keep building on the foundations we've been laying.

We've been composed at selection, they've looked panicky, their slow movement and players should play into our hands, just don't get caught in their stacked backline/slingshot out web. Stop that movement and they have nothing.

But I think this coaching group will have pulled that gameplan apart.

Win the midfield, win the game.

What if the same thing that usually happens, happens again though, I want to believe Ken was the problem in showdowns but there is zero evidence so far to back this up.

We didn't win that game with one flukey quarter or some sort of magic gee up. We won it playing tough team-first football that left even Chris Scott in shock.

Against a team that feasts on us more savagely than Adelaide.

As the game plan has been evolving, you can see that it is something far different to the confetti Hinkley served up.

Does that guarantee a win? No. But it places us right in the frame.

*under hinkley
I haven’t looked it up but I feel our performances in big games played during the day are more positive than the night ones.
The dogs preliminary final the the last showdown just stand out.
While the best wins like the Richmond final when we killed them in the first qtr was most probably one of our best big game wins.

Perfect illustration of Daniel Hoyne's argument - forget the who, focus on the how.

2026 Port Adelaide is vastly different. This alone does not guarantee us victory, but in a small sample size of 7 games, Josh and co's mantra of system is very much resonating with the playing group, and the stat guru's in the AFL landscape are taking notice.

I love the juxtaposition of Hoyne stressing it's about how teams play which determines how good, bad or middling they are with Kenny saying we only missed out on a flag because of injuries and a lack of depth.

Hoyney does some serious ultrapassive aggressive data analysis with Hinkley on that show.

I reckon Hoyney has thought very little of Hinkley via the stats for a long time and is happy to bring up Carr's good coaching indirectly having a go at Hinkley's poor coaching.

Dont know what their options are, but didn't know he was the type for the quick, lead up forwards.

Their midfield with no Dawson looks really weak, our midfield needs to play a blinder. Can win the game there if we get rolling. Will be interesting to see how we contain all their talls though.

The info about our defending is going to get put to the test with their ball movement.
Maybe some light thuggery from a disposable to slow him down.

Flukery hardery for longery.

I dunno. Nervous, but goodish nervous, not the shit nervous. But could also be shit nervous closer to game.

I think the Crows win this, just!

The gap is closing, but I'm not confident until we can show some consistency & string a few wins together against the top sides.

I have been known to be wrong on some occasions :)
