Tonight I realised that I don't love AFL as much as I thought I did and that I only love Collingwood.

The contest kept it interesting but apart from that the game looks more and more different every year. The skills are getting worse every time. I hate both sides but there is no doubt that Hawks winning was better for Collingwood tonight so I wanted the Swans to lose.

I love Collingwood more than any other sporting team in the world but if I hate to watch a non Collingwood game or a game of soccer, soccer wins hands down.

allright we need to pump the living crap out of adelaide next thursday. it is about time we start boosting our percentage because it may come down to that at the end of the year. There is nothing worse than missing the top 4 due to percentage.

I agree, but in fairness it has increased by 36% over the past month. The best way to increase it is to keep on winning!

I would have preferred the Hawks to win tonight for our top four chances, but you know what?.......

IF WE WIN ENOUGH GAMES WE'LL MAKE TOP FOUR.

It's in our hands.

I think you've been a touch OTT, IMO.

That stadium has hosted 47 matches now and I'm yet to see a good one there. It just isn't conducive for good footy...

Play that one at the SCG and it's a completely different match.

but looking at the teams we are playing in the next few rounds we have to seriously push our percentage towards the 130 to 140 range.

That is why the Carlton result was so disappointing. We should get to the Hawks game at least 9-3, even a loss will see us in a good position for top 4. We have a great draw.

I wouldn't say we have to. 130-140 is quite high. for instance we finished 2010 on top with a % of 141 Geelong have dropped just the one game and there's sits on 125.

Don't get me wrong I'd like us to go mental with it, but I don't see it as being essential.

Just as an aside if we win each of the games that we start as favourite by roughy 5 goals with 100-70 score lines our % will jump to 126 by the time we face Hawthorn.

Shit that was a good game tonight. Hawthorn were good as usual, nice skills but lacked grunt (read: Mitchell, Hodge). Sydney were very hard tonight and a lot of the Hawthorn show ponies didn't like the aggression, they looked rattled all game long. Still when Sydney made a poor turnover it nearly always proved costly and the good sides, like Hawthorn, will kill you on the rebound from a turnover like some we saw tonight.

Hawthorn are going to be hard to beat this year. The flag is theirs to lose in my opinion, the only other possibility I can see is that they stumble through the latter half of the season with injuries like so many before them have done.

But I like the insight shown tonight, you make hard contact all day, tackle ferociously (as we have done for weeks now) and we can put Hawthorn to bed. I feel like our skills would've been better than Sydney's were tonight, and better decision making too. So if we bring the intensity we can definitely challenge the Hawks. Only problem we face is having a lot of younger, smaller bodies. And the difference will be, at three quarter time, Hawthorn will still be in the game (not like Carlton and North etc.) So can we put together a four quarter effort?

Don't believe in this BS about teams winning being better for us. If we need specific teams to lose just to make the top 4, which we're also relying on happening to have a chance at the GF, then we don't deserve to be there. If we get into the top 4 it's because we're one of the best four sides in the competition, none of this other crazy mathematical shit.

I'm the same as well, was having a long chat with friends on this topic, if it ain't Collingwood then I'm less and less involved with other games compared to previous years. Rather watch the round ball or flick through channels. Don't want to be dramatic but reckon the game is in a little bit of trouble, especially with the World Cup fast approaching!

What's the world cup going to change that the others haven't? Especially when Australia will likely be thrashed in all 3 group matches

We will easily smash Spain and Netherlands. Spain have never played us, so will not know what to expect, and every other time we played the Netherlands, it has been a draw both away and at home, and we smashed them in their first loss in Rotterdam in recorded history.

Chile will be the danger game, and they could get within three or four goals of us. Need a percentage boost for the second round. Postie has us well drilled.

Sarcasm alert aside, apart from the genuine chances against the Dutch and Chile, the Hawks result was a surprise.

I just hope we take our chances against the Hawks. They seem vulnerable injury wise, with Hodgey and Mitchell out, although Luke probably back to play, and the Rough Head maybe being in trouble with the MRP, we might be playing an below strength premiers WITHOUT Buddy Franklin.

Buddy always brought something against Collingwood, and they are an awesome side do not get me wrong, but I just think we have a sniff.

Hope and prayer conquers all, as does reason, without coincidence.

Go the Maggies!! :)

that is all good until u start paying attention to the other teams around us. Teams like port, hawks, geelong sydney have to ability to skyrocket their percentage whenever they play crap teams because they have that much fire power and the ability to pile on goals quickly. So even if we feel that 126 is good enough, it may not be good enough when compared with the team around us vying for a spot in the top 4

Port v Freo reminds me of the Geelong v Hawks game earlier this year, so my tips will be similar.
Port by 10, one of Schulz or Westhoff to kick 5+.

We aren't catching Hawthorn and Port from here % wise so I'd well and truly leave them out of it. The only way we finish ahead is on wins.

The teams we are in competition with are North, Sydney, Gold Coast and Fremantle. We currently sit 6 & 7 % respectively behind those two and 18 & 11 % ahead of North and Gold Coast.

Fremantle and Sydney's draws are significantly tougher than ours over the next 6 weeks so as long as we keep winning we'll be fine. The % will take care of itself :thumbsu:

I know we shouldn't be relying on games to make top 4 BUT the more Freo lose, the happier I am!
CARN THE PEAR!
thats why i was really hoping for hawks to win yesterday.

Who do we want to win, Freo Shockers or Port Chokers? I'm barracking for the shockers.
