We are unlikely to go a hard tag on Petracca but I'd like to see J.Berry or Mitch keep a close eye on him, Gawn is the bigger worry though, don't want him feeding it down their mids throats, particularly from centre bounces.

The media do like to move quickly to the next story. Lachie has had two quieter games in a row, Petracca looked very good from the bit I watched. Plus (I hate saying it) but he is a Vic based player so they love to give a bit more attention

Had a giggle at this - there will be no such beast as a vic based player by next week. Or umpire. Wonder if we will see some bias going qld way as a thanks for keeping us in a job.

Edit - I did know what you meant, just being a bit silly

Clearances is definitely an issue for any team going up against Melbourne. While Gawn and Petracca are very good they also have way too many other good inside mids. Oliver, Viney, Brashaw and so on. But if we keep the pressure up, none of them are good ball users (by foot). Even Langdon on the outside is a poor kick. You shut down the receivers on the outlet and they can struggle. Our run and skills should hurt them through the corridor.

I agree with this. Melb will be tough on the inside with a lot of players who get their hands on the ball first. Once they do they can butcher it and Langdon on the outside is a big offender (I always thought his recruitment was a dumb idea for them). Cut down their time and they will turn it over.

They do have a mobile forward line with quite a bit of pace which could challenge our slow backs. Usually I have been advocating for Payne to be given a chance but this week I probably would rather we bring in a bit more midsized pace.

At the other end I think our group will be difficult match ups for them. We are not sitting in the standard positions that much and guys getting up and back will cause match up difficulties for their unit.

Good opportunity for Charlie this week - they have Jetta who isn’t the same player he was 2 years ago. Lockhart who i reckon charlie will get a hold of and Hibberd. Should get some opportunities there.
Send May then charlie roams up the ground and gets him over the back.

Back to back good games from mccarthy and bailey would be handy though.

McStay, Hipwood and Rayner to crash as hard as possible into Gawn who will no doubt try and pick off our long balls.
He’s been outstanding for them.

We should be well prepared for Gawn dominating . Stef is still a bit underdone and Oscar isn't the same class wise but these two guys should try to grind him down and the others feed off him until he tires . When Gawn roams across half back the idea is to kick it high which makes it conjectural for him with guys coming over the back.

No need to get too Gawn conscious but we'll have a plan.

I'm looking forward to seeing Kysaiah Pickett, I was keen on him in the draft but the Demons pounced earlier than I thought they would, they also reached on Luke Jackson.

Kysaiah did a bit of disco dance against Hawthorn which I found very entertaining :). Gawn kept picking off marks standing in the middle of defensive 50 against Hawthorn, we need our resting ruckman to neutralize. If the ball hits the ground, they tend to play on a fair bit which gives us a lot of intercept opportunities.

Will be an entertaining game as Melbourne knows only one way, which is play on.

Melbourne have had two good games, they just beat Suns and beat the Hawks (who are not playing well at all). I reckon we will put them back in their place. We’ve played Port (W), Cats (L) and Giants (W). I prefer the standard of teams that we have played versus theirs. Not only that but I have preferred our ‘football’ compared to theirs. I’m surprised about the ‘jumping at shadows’ but I suppose that it comes from our years of inadequacy. Lions by 40.

Different pressure this week.

Good test for them to see how good the newly ordained 'stars' are.

CEY in if fit. I unfortunately think T. Berry is the one to go like last time. We're a better team with CEY playing imo, he found some form pre-injury too.

Ah Chee stays. I get so mad watching his 1 costly mistake each week, but he's getting better and was really good other than the one kick out. Also we need his pace/athleticism down there, we can't have Rich, Witherden and Birchall in the same backline, it's just defensively too slow. I think after last year the coaches know that too, which is why we went after him and have allowed him to keep his spot.

Melbourne will also be flying from Sydney
Speaking as someone who once accidentally crossed the Belgium/France border, borders are a lot fuzzier when they don't involve your home.

Speaking from experience of both, the Queensland-NSW is currently harder to cross than the Belgium-France one ever was.

Anyone know how many lions tickets are available? We're on a mission to get seven.

Figure the late start on a Sunday night might means numbers are low. I estimate we won't get home till 10.30, which is late for a before school night. Anyone else heading down?

I think it's 6 per transaction - so you might have to go in multiple groups. No clue what the demand will be, but Metricon can only hold roughly 6500 at the moment I think and Melbourne fans had a presale today - so I'd guess there are maybe going to be 2000-3000 for Lions members at most?

Except for that one period about a century back
From what I recall, the Belgium-France border was still pretty easy to cross. The Germany-France border was the one they were trying to avoid.

Nah, they eased it up about 30 years later and that's when going via Belgium became a bit easier.

Got our tickets and snagged a $10 parking voucher for the blue car park. No idea what that actually is but sounded like a bargain that allows us to skip the bus connection from the train station. Anyone ever parked there before?
The blue car park is about 4km away. ;)

Actually, I have NFI, but the few times I've been there, its felt like they were.

They're not going to open up the game by hand against us, we will successfully control field position through pressure and put scoreboard pressure when we're not getting it our way out of defense I think

Last year we belted Melbourne in centre clearances 20-6 (IIRC we won something like the first 12) and broke even around the ground

Just remember Melbourne only lost to the Cats by 3 points and had 2 more scoring shots than Geelong.
Melbourne are 1 game out of 8th position but sit in 12th spot at the moment. They also have one game still to play against Essendon
The Suns are in 7th place so going okay.

Our wins have been against 1st,8th,13th,15th, & 18th.
Losses to 5th, & 14th

I hope we win by 40 but but will be glad just to come away with the 4 points
Lions by 3 goals for me.
