Yeh you can interpret it anyway you want. Say if he takes 6 to 10 kick ins that would get it up there. But he is by and large our best ball user. By a long way. Kiddy does well but his kicking has been ordinary this year. Motty brings a different type of energy. But IMO rich will play when he is fit.
Richy was fantastic in his prime and I would love to see the likes of him, Zorko and Lester win a flag for the loyalty they have shown to us through tough times.

BUT

I'm not a fan of Richy's ball use these days, he is hesitant and second guesses himself regularly, rarely takes on challenging kicks any longer, IMO we have better options now.

I agree with everything before the BUT....

BUT

I respect your opinion. I can still see him being a very useful cog in this year's premiership tilt.

I
It's Richs metres gained that we can't replace. Agree he hasn't used his left peg to full affect so far this year. Averaging 560 gained per match. Its massive. I just think you have to make way for that kind of experience and damaging factor even though I'm not sure how it works.

How do his metres gained compare with the players who now take the kick in?

Except we use multiple players now so hard to compare.

Was Dunkley extremely unlucky to give away the 50? Looked like it at the game. Like he accidentally went over the 9m line by half a metre and was immediately pinged.

I think the second guessing is because he doesn't have his monster kick anymore.

Knows what he wants to do, not confident of that kick, hesitates and compromises.

Sharp out and Wilmot back to a wing more likely.
Will be interesting to see how Gardiner goes today, with Lester playing well, he might be hard to push out.
Gardiner will have to show some pretty strong form and for a decent period you would think.
If Lester repeats yesterday's game repeatedly, we may look at Gardner replacing one of the other two tall defenders.

What say you 3KZ?

The only (main) issue with that is that by the time he is a Mod he will have been put on so many posters' ignore lists for Lester spam that half the board won't see his posts!

On the other hand no one will ever say a bad word about Lester again (due to their posts being removed and their banning from the board after their second infraction)
And he will go back to find derogatory Lester posts. I used to often put up, "I will have a drink every time Lester gets a kick".

I must investigate another persona on this site.

Who are you dropping Doc, Payne or Andrews?
Neither obviously, but it is great that what everyone (well I did) thought could be a crucial weakness is looking like a strength.

Imagine if Adams recovers!!!!

Adams won't play again. Justin Clark injury 🤕 😢

I think we still need some better ball users. Hurt us in the first half when we couldn't get our ball movement going because we couldn't hit a target

Rich was one of our best against GWS and Freo so it’s weird how every time he gets hurt people seem to forget that he’s good.

He’s not back this week regardless. Happy to keep Sharp in though I’m not against Answerth or Ah Chee coming in for him.

Gunston is a weird one because he is obviously slow but he’s bringing the ball to ground at the very least and running hard for leads. The problem is that Fort isn’t exactly quicker than him. I’d prefer we don’t play Rayner as the third tall because he did really well through the midfield in stints and want him to keep that role.

Thought the ump set a precedent when they pinged McKenna for kicking the ball after a free kick...only to miss Essendon players doing the same thing twice yet no 50 as given. 🤷‍♂️

Payne and Andrews are locks. Unless injury or badly out of form, I don't see either of them getting dropped/replaced. Even then Andrews will continue to play week in week out. Payne would get dropped last year but this year he's put runs onboard so Fagan will back him to come good.

Gardiner has to bide his time in 2s just like Joyce.

The Bombers lowest score this year before the Lions game was 74 in a loss v Saints.
Even though Essendon were undermanned it was still a good effort by our team to restrict them to 45.

This is the first game in 2023 the Lions have won the handball count. Only by 3 though being 125 - 122.

Attended the game but have not watched the replay yet.
I don't think i will notice anything that would take away from Joe's BOG performance.

Rich is a cert once fit.

On Rayner, I thought that actually.did try something different with him last night. He started the game and a few quarters in the middle.of the ground, had 7 CBAs (equal to Ashcroft) and had 5 clearances (equal to Dunkley).

He also was a massive catalyst in that third quarter and he made 3 efforts in the first play that set the tone for everyone else. He only got 20 disposals, but he had 8 score involvements. I thought it was one of his better games for the club.

After Lester selected for the Fremantle game we had this:
“Fagan trying to find a way to make Gunston look quick?”

Best thing about last night for Lester was that his ability to run hard and fast and rebound was on full display.

The ‘Lester is slow’ groupthinkers will have to find another fiction to backslap about.

The other thing about Lester is that he complements Payne and supports Starcevich beautifully. I was highly critical of Jack Payne late last season and early this season because I was judging him on his ground level work, especially under pressure, where he often failed to make an impact. Since the Bulldogs game, he has improved out of sight because he is playing his game in the air and he and Harris have developed a great understanding. Including Lester in the team and with the drafting of McKenna and presence of Starcevich, means that we now have three hard at it contested ground ball beasts in defence to compliment Payne and Andrews. The added bonus is that all three are also highly capable rebounding defenders with great running ability, as demonstrated last night. This is why I say that our defence is SET. Gardiner is a dour defender, but he doesn’t offer the same all round game as Lester and Joyce is depth at best, which is what he was at St.Kilda. Rich might come in, but we really do look better without him.
I am a Lester is slowish groupthinker. Like all players he made some mistakes, Bombers third goal and if being super critical their first goal although Zoks game him a hospital handball. However, I think last night was one of Ryan's better games (I had him just outside of my top 5), creating a couple of opportunities and supporting run through the middle. He was also solid against Carlton. FWIW I believe Lester keeps his spot, and it is up to Dizzy to win it back.

Lester is playing further up- field and getting more opportunities to impact the game such as last night, because Andrews and Payne are playing well down back. I think you are implying that Payne has been playing better since Lester came into the team, and there may be some truth to that but, Naughton scored one goal when marked by Payne, Elliot (a small forward) had a couple shots at goal but did not score at the GABBA and against GWS Payne got coaches votes, and for all three of those games Lester did not play. I actually think because Payne and Andrews are playing so well together taking the two best forwards every game, it is creating some attacking options for our other backs, in this regard McKenna has been a stand out for me with his attacking play from half back. Of course our confidence in our defence is predicated on our strong midfield.

Will not happen because of Adams injury, but I would love to see Payne with is height, speed and agility play further up-field.
