Essendon are currently enduring their longest AFLW losing streak, having been beaten in each of their past 5 matches.

Adelaide and West Coast meet in SA for the first time (played twice in WA, once in Vic).

Geelong and GWS Giants face each other for the first time in 1,310 days.

North Melbourne have won 20 in a row and are undefeated in their past 22 matches. They are also the first team to start an AFLW season 8-0.

St Kilda, with 4 on the trot, have the 2nd-longest active winning streak in the competition. They are vying to equal their longest AFLW winning streak (previously won 5 consecutive games from R9 2023 to R3 2024).

Melbourne are averaging 78 points per game at Casey Fields this year, and 44 points per game at other venues.

Having conceded a combined 219 points against Brisbane and North Melbourne in Rounds 2 and 3, Fremantle have conceded 173 points in their other six matches this year.

I'm off to my first AFLW game this weekend - Sydney v Carlton at Marrickville. Cheapo tickets through my Blues membership, both daughters can make it, it's a fairly short bus trip away from my place, and the ground is located in the epicenter of Sydney's brewpub scene. All of this should make it a good day!

And unsurprisingly glorious weather forecast for another Swans home game, as always seems to be the case. Perhaps slightly warmer than ideal conditions for the players, if anything, but that certainly won't keep a crowd away.

Brisbane's max will be a bit hotter with the BOM currently saying 33 degrees expected for Saturday, dropping to 26ish by the time the Lions and Power get underway.

Getting towards the back end of aflw now.
Some teams its a case of off season and other summer sports.
but here are my tips for round 9 aflw:

dogs over bombers by 20 points
crows over eagles by 18 points
gws over cats by 10 points
hawks over suns by 3 points
lions over port by 23 points
north over tigers by 31 points
swans over blues by 11 points
pies over stkilda by 7 points
dees over freo by 12 points

Dogs have dropped Berry.

Maybe give the Captaincy back to the one who deserves it and always knew how to lead - Blackburn.

It's a humiliating concession by the Bulldogs coach, and probably a sign of impatience as the other teams that finished around them last year (StK 11th, WB 12th, WCE 13th, Carl 14th, Syd 15th) have all shot up into top 8 contention.

With the coach signed through to the end of 2027 and the captain still with another year left on her contract, jumping abruptly to defcon 1 doesn't make a whole lot of sense, especially since external expectations were low.

One coach whose contract I'm not sure about is Dan Lowther, and he'd have to be in the gun with the way things are tracking.

Geelong might finish 10th again, though in truth they've gone backwards this year to date rather than having simply not improved. Atm averaging about 40 points for and 44 against, which is the inverse of last year.

He's deep into his 5th season, and has a winning % of 46. The month ahead is not particularly tough, and unless the Cats beat Melbourne in R12, going 3-0 against GWS-WB-WCE might help him keep his job... but I'm not sure it'll help the team much.

For the Pies Carly Remmos out with a chest infection i wish her all the best in her recovery i had one of these myself a week ago takes about a whole week to get over it. So she probably misses next 2 weeks back for last round.
Davey was about to play this week finally but has since sustained another injury at training during the week and which has now set her back another 2 weeks. Could end up playing no games this aflw.
To be honest shes missed way too much games and might be time to hang them up and i think she will work in media for fox sports i think she will be great on fox sports.
Interesting to see the rest of the aflw season now that the afl is over and is now cricket season.
Always an interesting time of the year this one.
Bit of a mix of everything.

As an outsider, it is really hard to understand wtf is going on at your club.

I can some progress but they need some leadership on field and Hyett to stop protecting them gameplay wise in fear of being heavily outscored with slogs like the Hawthorn game. Dogs can look good if using their pace.

Really should not have lost vs GWS and Port in my opinion with the amount of scores generated and time in favour. Even that Hawks game if they were brave enough.

Not gonna get a lot of clarity when the media only want to talk about (campaign on behalf of) their friends.

Kristie-Lee Weston-Turner hasn't been mentioned once in any of the press conferences or analysis shows on the AFL/W website since she was omitted.

Much more important to keep talking about how a 34-year-old (averaging 6 touches per game for the past 2 seasons) deserves more chances!

Carlton going into Sunday as clear outsiders with the bookies is surprising.

Backing in Sydney without Hurley smacks of blind guess work. It might come off, but no good reason it should, particularly after the month they've just had.

Alexander has already squibbed two aerial contests horribly. Pretty pitiful opening quarter by Essendon and the umpires.

Bulldogs not much better, but could've been if not for Hartwig's poor fundamentals a couple times.

This Essendon jumper is a shocker. Looks like plain black and if not for the on-screen score I wouldn't even recognise what team was playing.

You know your in trouble if your oppo ruck snaps a goal

2 score involvements each for Woodley and Pritchard to HT seems light on. The limitation/fallibility of stats.

Then again, Nanscawen with 31% DE feels about right. I reckon just about all 11 of her handballs hit the deck.

Natalie Wood's 3QT address went something like: "Abbey Dowrick was able to beat this Bulldogs team in a cave! With a box of scraps!"

Best
3 - Isabelle Pritchard
Probably shouldn't even bother guessing if she'll be cited for giving Maddy Pavlich the old Chris Judd special. I'm pretty sure the MRO watches games on 2x speed.
2 - Heidi Woodley
Was the other player in Q2 who took the bull by the horns. Wasn't super clean but her decision to play on quickly and kick the ball actually helped expose the defence!
1 - Ellie Blackburn
Could pinpoint quite a few instances of Bulldogs burning teammates in front of goal, but then steps up Blackburn with a pure team-oriented centreing pass to cap off the evening. Now that's leadership.

Worst
1 - Georgia Clarke
2 - Sophie Alexander
3 - Ellyse Gamble

Apologies to Brooke Brown, doesn't qualify.
