Ah yes the young midfielder that has played all their underage football as an onballer being brought into the Eagles side as a half forward trick hey?

Straight from Simmo’s playbook with Partington, Ainsworth, O’Neill, Trew et al.

Gross looked more than accomplished at the CBDs and on ball in general. I’m glad he’s seemingly getting a game but getting the square peg in the round hole treatment sucks for mine.

Make bloody Tim Kelly play the high half forward role and get Gross in at the centre bounce.
I really want to see Tim play as a HHF, he needs space and would make plenty of plays, and he knows how to find holes and open the field up. Allow him to get some heat off him and bring him into the game and hopefully more enjoyment after a goal or two.
Guy gets a lot of hate, when we have been a 50+ game losing side and it isn't because of his sole efforts or lack there of

I believe either Flynn or Williams will be able to be way more competitive in the the ruck against Nankervis. We don’t need both as Jack Williams will be fine as the ruck support.

Changers I’d like to see against Richmond
1. Brock for Gov (concussion) with Brock on Lynch and get Oscar to play the Gov role
2. Shanahan to debut with Archer (ankle) needing to have a week completely off
3. Gross to replace Owies on the hff. We cannot have both Cripps and Owies in a forward line.

If Duggan needs a rest, bring in Hall as a mid moving Hough back to defence.

I want to see Harley match up on Lalor

Definitely agree with most of this - and not to necessarily outright disagree with this point, just a counter-option:

Our best game of the season IMO was against Brisbane - was just Archer and Oscar as key forwards with Archer chopping out BW. When both Archer and BW went down we had problems but prior to that our balance looked good - I feel that with such scrappy ball movement as well as Archer and JWilliams still developing, one of those two goes missing at a time, our structures and delivery just aren't there yet.

I'd be tempted then to bring in Champion instead of Shanahan for Archer. Played an awesome, chaotic game against South Freo, still not physically ready yet but if the performance is there it's nice to reward it.

Should then allow Brockman and Gross to play mid a bit more, maybe 1/4 of a game each, and give us more run across the board. Shanahan would be good to have if we want to let Waterman roam but I think I'd rather Snake hold to the danger zone and have more buzz at ground level through Champion.

What do ya mean? Why worry about Lynch?

We are going to dominate through the midfield with our relentless pressure and defensive work rate, which will deny any meaningful forward entries for the Tigers.

The ball will live in our forward half the entire game

In: Brock, Shanahan (debut), Billiams, Gross, Edwards, Dewar, Long
Out: Gov (inj), Allan (susp), AReid (managed/inj), Flynn

B: Ginbey, Allen, Maric
HB: Duggan, Brock, Baker
C: Hunt, Kelly, Hough
HF: Cripps, Jilliams, Graham
F: Ryan, Waterman, Shanahan
R: Billiams, Reid, Hewett
I: Cole, Brockman, Owies, Hutchinson, Gross, Edwards, Dewar, Long

Final changes Brock for Gov, Shanahan for Reid, Williams for Flynn (deckchairs), Dewar in as sub with Cole taking Allan’s spot in the 22, Long gets a trip home as emergency, Gross and Edwards play WAFL, Kelly and Owies somehow survive the axe.

After watching the WAFL highlights Gross, Grego, Hall and Shanahan stood out as being more than worthy of an AFL call up.

If and when Gross get's back into the AFL side I think that will be it, he won't play WAFL again.
Also have a feeling Grego will be the same.

If we can drop Kelly we can drop Owies, and should.

Gross - Owies
Grego - Cole
Hall - Bo
Shanahan - Reid
Brock - Gov

Grego could be a good sub I think. If he needs to come on early he will be fine and if he comes on late it will be with fire in the belly.

I reckon Gross will spend a few more games in the WAFL to play that HFF/Mid role that Hewett plays. My thinking is that after a few weeks Hewett will spend more time as a mid as he gets fitter and then Gross slots into his old role.
I was more thinking he would provide more value to the team ATM than Owies.

After watching the WAFL highlights Bailey Williams stood out to me as being eminently capable of clunking marks all over the ground and kicking goals as a forward. Really must be something in the water down at Beagles HQ. Leave him there just a few more weeks and we have another Cox on our hands. But the temptation to rush him back is strong I admit.

I don't mind Gross as a HFF - Ben Cousins started out there, it makes sense given his frame.
Few first year kids go through the guts against the big bodies full time- aside from the likes of H Reid, Langford, Wardlaw
Gross has got fantastic potential, but it's better to get some runs through the CBD, but not as a primary mid just yet IMO
Pretty much on point inmo - the coach has given a sound reason for Gross at HFF. Gross will grow into the game and the mid, meanwhile he'll be handy upfront. TK there is a good argument, but we need an experienced senior mid in the guts. TK could play there next year if he's still going. Some of these kids (Davis) still need another preseason in the gym.

Why would this week be any different?
Mini is doing the right thing imo, trying to set the team up for the future rather than throw kids to the wolves.
Agree. I think it’s good a few of the newbies already have been exposed at AFL level - to show them what’s required.

For that reason I’d like to see Grego get a game fairly soon. Hall, Gross, Davis, Brock, Allan and Dewar know now what it’s about.

Shanahan and Champion might also be ready for a game??? But Jobe might have to wait for injuries given JW, JW and AR have first dibs.

And, hopefully, unlike previous years the Beagles might actually help develop these emerging players.
