Prediction Round 9: Changes vs Essendon

Better that than being outnumbered. Wilson has repeatedly got **** all of the ball but not manned up either. So too some of our forwards and mids.
That works out pretty well when our midfield can slow down the opposition moving the ball into our defensive fifty, the extras can float in from somewhere else and we have players out in space for quick attacks the other way if/when we create a spillage or turnover.

When they talk about the balance between defense and attack, this is to what they were referring.

Nyhuis has a higher AFL player rating than Duman, he has a considerably higher SuperCoach than Duman for the year and is 12th in our own player ratings while Duman is 25th. They have played 3 games each.

That is a fair amount of wide ranging information that suggests that many think Nyhuis is playing better football than Duman. The coaching group don’t think that however. That is their prerogative. But it does suggest strongly to me that other clubs may rate Nyhuis higher than the Dockers do, and that he may get better opportunity elsewhere.
I'm not really sure where you are going with this argument; I don't think the club should be referencing those markers in terms of selection, and they continually show outliers that defy logic. What the club needs to be focused on is building the strongest defence/best 22 possible, and there will certainly be players in that who do not rate well in SuperCoach.

Duman, Hughes, Nyhuis and possibly Logue are competing for similar positions in a pretty strong defence. None of them have forced "preferred" status, and all of them are being given opportunities. Carter is emerging and both Blakely and SHill have backline duties as part of their job brief as well.

If an opposition team sees Nyhuis as making their best 22 they should definitely chase him (and he should take the offer), but they had that opportunity last year when he was placed on the rookie list and nobody came knocking as far as I am aware. I just cannot see that his recent games have altered the landscape in terms of how he is perceived; a handy player.

Would like to see Wilson upping his game a touch.
Taberner needs a kick in the arse.
Nyhuis a bit unlucky but he’ll get another chance.
Darcy and Cox need to lift their games.
Will be good to beat Woosher’s mob.

I picked a team purely on Statistics to see if it would be all over the shop. Turns out, it's not that bad.

FB: Duman, Nyhuis, Conca
HB: Wilson, Pearce, Hamling
C: Langdon, Mundy, Ryan
HF: Lobb, Taberner, Colyer
FF: Hogan, Matera, McCarthy
R: Darcy,
Foll: Fyfe, Walters
Int: Hill, Tucker, Cerra, Brayshaw.

It's all based on statistical averages for that position. Only a few interesting bits. For Freo of the 25 players who have played at least 1 game in 2019:

Ryan is 4th for Disposals
Walters is statistically our 3rd best midfielder
Matera is statistically our best forward
Hughes is our 15th ranked player overall, but didn't rank in any specific part of the ground high enough to be in the top 4.

Which one?

Ours. Blakely is fit to play after playing 2 weeks in the WAFL and getting 30+. Top 10 player for us. Not picked vs Tigers. But apparently good to go this week after a WAFL bye last week. Nyhuis comes into the team vs the Bulldogs and looks a million bucks, is in our best 5 on ground 2 weeks in a row, getting coaches votes. 1 less than average game last week in a team full of passengers and dropped, for a guy who has done nothing. I mean literally nothing, because of the WAFL bye last week.

******* clueless.

Fake news. Nyhuis has not had a coaches vote since 2017 (1 vote vs NM). He was nowhere near top 5 in those games.

What hurts is that Nyhuis got dropped.. for Duman. Not a better player, at all. Nyhuis defends better. No idea why or how they came to that decision. Especially after he’s been suspended then had a bye..

Blakely full time mid. Having both Conca and Cerra is overkill, IMO. Same role as Blakely in a way. Three of them aren’t quick, and get kicks off half back. Can rotate through midfield. Weird

Blakely will be taking Colyers and some of Bradshaw's. Full time mid is an anachronism. Not even Fyfe spends all his time in the midfield. Versatility is important. Duman, Conca and Cerra can play multiple roles. Nyhuis can't.

Didnt he kick 4 brilliant goals as a half foward on debut?

We’re going to regret not dropping Cox!!!! Marvel stadium, Saad running out of their backline..with Hogan, Tabs and Cox in the same fwd50 applying their version of pressure.

Could possibly get very ugly. You would imagine bombers rebounders licking their lips looking at the team sheet.

You can’t have Cox and Tabs in the same team. Just like Lobb and Darcy.

We regret it alright!!!!!!
