It doesn't look good for the Hawks at the moment :(

Score check close to 3 quarter time

Geelong 12.9. 81
Hawthorn 10.4. 64

Come on Hawks

Ah yes our forum is full of excuses :o You will make a great journalist.

Besides we have done you a favour - Schwab is gone.

That'd be because you've been too busy continuing your sad fixation with the GFC.

The closest thing to a four quarter effort all year. A good game from the cats, great to watch.
How goods Ablett? I rate his **** highly!

If Anthony Hudson calls Ben Graham Geelongs captain one more time, I'll go nucking futs.

Finally, an effort worth four full quarters of footy. :)

And a win to go along with it, of course-- and I have to admire the way the Cats saw the game out. They didn't buckle under when the game was still around a 20-odd-point margin.

Great examples of teamwork out there today, and Geelong defended very, very well for most of the game.

Quite hard to single out players because they played so very well as a unit, but certainly Gary Ablett Jr., Ben Chapman, Jarred Rooke, Joel Corey, Corey Enright, and Matthew McCarthy, to name but a few, played fantastic.

Also, the veteran players as a group-- from Ben Graham, who played another solid game, to Brenton Sanderson, whose play was inconsistent at best-- they all lifted their game collectively. They've been challenged to play better as an overall group, and they did exactly that today.

What about his goal to start the second quarter? Wow... that hit Hawthorn like a sucker punch.

Great run from the centre, from the centre break, moments after the term began, and what a boot, from about 55-60 yards down the middle.

Inspiring stuff for Geelong, on the heels of a good first term. Set the tone for the rest of the match, IMHO...

Going to point out two other facts that seem obvious, but haven't been pointed out directly yet (at least not in this thread)...

First: The Cats are officially off the bottom of the ladder.

And secondly, I don't think we're Hawthorn's bitches anymore. The hoodoo has been hereby exorcised. :D

Yes, that makes it 8 Geelong wins in the last 20 years against Hawthorn. In fairness though, you're only as good as your last match.

Today, we're the bitch.

Good point-- and just as long as we'll be just as good as our next match, whether that be against the Hawks, or anyone else (for the record, we play Adelaide at Kardinia Park next Sunday).

Credit to Hawthorn, though-- they did play better than they did versus their efforts in the previous two or three matches. Geelong just lifted higher, and were good enough to win by the 34-point margin at the end.

10 actually, 7 of which came in the past 12 years.

What was good about today's performance was that we had a chance to beat a Hawthorn side who are undiciplined, soft at the ball and mentally weak and we did so easilly in the end.

It was these types of wins which started Hawthorn's dominance over us 20 years ago. I am not for one minute suggesting one win changes all of that, but it is a start.

It was great to finally get a win on the board after a tough month of football. Hawthorn never threatened our control of the game apart from a 10 minute patch just before half time where they started to get the ball out of the centre.

Jarrad Rooke's effort in containing Hank Bulger... ooops I mean Shane Crawford to just 18 possessions was fantastic I thought, helped us control the game in the middle.

Gary Ablett's efforts lifted the crowd I thought, especially his running goal at the start of the second term... inspiring stuff.

Ben Graham was fantastic today. He presented himself really well up forward as a target to kick to and when the ball was kicked towards him, he attacked it like he wanted the ball... exactly what we ask of all our players, great stuff.

There were some good contributions from all our players during different stages in the game. Corey, King, Enright, Scarlett, Chapman and Ling were also amoungst our best players.

Looking forward to a good match next week against the Crows.

This was another game which displayed the enormous improvement by several of our younger players. But it also showed us how some of our slightly more experienced players were heading in the right direction form-wise. Hopefully June will be a better month for us
