We shouldn’t have too many dramas with this mob should we?
We really shouldn't. It's not quite a "write your own gameplan, guy" game, but Adelaide is a bottom four team but can beat average teams that are overconfident.

I'd say Hipwood and Gardiner back in for McStay and Froggy. Hopefully, McStay's injury isn't too serious, around 3-4 weeks tops which would put him in the frame to return alongside Daniher if all goes well.

I'm expecting Adelaide to come out breathing fire next week. They'd be desperate to atone for a fortnight of disappointment by snaring a win over the second seed for the premiership.

I'm excited to see how Rayner goes. His performances have been getting better and better, he's nearly ready to have the "I've arrived game" where he destroys the opposition, similar to his game against the Suns.

With our team being so solid over the last few years with little need of some of our fringe players its hard for them to settle straight in. Lester and payne without being terrific weren't bad and will be better for the run.

Would be great if they think hipwood is up to it. Straight swap for mcstay. No forced changes for me.

Dunno if anyone can answer this really, but there is 0% chance Keayes will captain against us right? (they were rotating it with ... whoever their cap is out with injury?).

gosh my knowledge for other teams is atrocious.

This probably won't go down well but Hurn kept running off Rayner whenever he had the match and basically beat him hands down one on one. Nearly every time.

Of our new inclusions I thought Payne showed enough and at least had a real crack . Plus he's all we have now. Lester surprised me with how composed and efficient he was. Couldn't fault his efforts . But there wasn't much or enough of it to beat. He probably goes out for Darce but hmmmm , not sure .Tommy took a while to get accustomed to the tempo but was starting to motor the last 20 minutes. I think he could be a gun. I know most don't agree. Likely he misses out this week when we need to just keep playing him.

I know what Harris means in the backline but I'd love to play him forward. He could be a sensation with all that pressure off his back. With the way things are shaping up we may need to get a little creative for a while.

Prior did some nice things but right now Robbo would give more value than him. That's no knock on Prior over the next few years.

Agreed we're likely to play Hippy.

Fagan said he's fit and ready to go so may as well get some game time into him in the ones. With Oscar likely to play forward for longer to cover when Hippy is off the ground.

Sounds like 2-3 weeks is the worst case scenario.
I can claim to be some sort of expert in sprained ankles, having done my left ankle 5 times and my right 11 times. I was, at one time, quite severely pigeon-toed - combine that with incorrect footwear and it's a recipe for trouble.

I found that quite often the mechanics of the injury were a good indicator to the severity. Most were typical ones with a momentary flex where you can go around the following week but with slightly limited movements. The ones where you step on an uneven surface, like someone's foot are usually around the 2-3 week mark. The worst I ever did was stepping on a footy whilst running which had me out for about 5 weeks.

Of course those timeframes are with minimal to no physio. With no insight other than no own amateur observations, I would be putting my money on him missing 2 games.

Would anyone keep Lester in ahead of Gardiner? I don't know if Gardiner was playing well enough to be a walk up start. Lester did nothing wrong and perhaps deserves a crack at keeping his spot. I suspect they will bring Fullarton in which I don't like. Just play a smaller forward line and experiment for the next few weeks. We may not have the luxury of having all our talls available for the finals. Last year we didn't cope well with McStay and Payne going down so maybe we need more practice at a plan B i.e. smaller forward line. Also could play Lester forward instead of Fullarton in the next couple of weeks.

Looking at the Elders weather for next Saturday Night, it indicates that there is a chance of 90% rain. If this is the case, I would hope they don't play Hipwood due to the expected weather conditions? Gardiner will come back in, with Robbo and Dev as possible selections. I would leave Payne and Rayner as is in the forward line, but to consider playing Hippy in poor weather conditions in Adelaide could be a bad move.

I was impressed with both Lester and Payne and both should stay in the team. Berry played ok as well but as usual made some kicking errors but made up for it with his tackling and pressure. Payne did not kick many goals but was in the right positions when the ball was kicked long and brought the ball to ground for our smalls . I reckon over time he will only get better. Fullarton isn’t doing much in a dominant reserves team so isn’t doing himself any favours. Lester was composed and made good decisions he looked better than Gardiner in many ways. So for me Hipwwod comes back and both Payne and Lester stay. Tom Berry may be under pressure for his position but he has been one of the best in the reserves this year so should get another week to show his ability. The two Robbos would be in consideration for sure.

Phew - great news even if it is a bad sprain and Dan has to miss the Crows and Hawks games. Thought it may have been a 6-10 week injury.
The dreaded syndesmosis injury is a high ankle sprain. It can be way worse than a simple fracture of a leg bone (but not if the break is in the ankle joint).

Still meet feeling phew myself yet.

Edit - just read the next quote that rules out syndesmosis. Now I got that phew feeling.

Wow. 5 and 11 times FB. We won't be drafting you anytime soon.

Thanks for the info. Obviously it can often look a lot worse than what it is.

I guess the big question is does Eric come straight back in now for McStay?

I didn’t think Payne was great but then it wasn’t a great night for key forwards and he probably gets a reprieve now with McStay seemingly missing.

I also wouldn’t be against dropping Prior perhaps for Dev but can understand no forced changes other than Lester goes back for Gardiner too. I couldn’t really fault Lester’s game tonight though.
Payne stays in and forward for mine and does the McStay role of busting packs flying for marks and kicking the odd goal.

Minimal changes :
In - Hipwood
Out - McStay

Funnily enough haven't done one in about 15 years. It could be because I was able to reverse my pigeon-toed-ness or it could be due to being a lazy bastard these days.
