As for Watson, the guy is a freak, unless he's got pneumonia, he'll always play well, and there is nothing Dimma, Scott, Worsfold, or Longmire will ever be able to about it. He's simply too good.

Keep in mind Watson is 28. Cotchin is still 23 and first year captain. Compare the stats between the two players at the same age and the results would be interesting.

Do you think they will stick to the Week 1 team for the GF? I wouldnt go with Tuck as emergency in the GF, I would have him in the middle and sub him off,when we are 6 goals up in the last with 5 minutes to go, even though he has dislocated his back and is crawling into packs with his legs limp. We need to maintain the rotations until the last 5 minutes to make sure we win it.

Elton, McBean, McDonough etc. People calling for these players to come in have to understand we are playing at Subiaco in what will be an extreme pressure environment. The intensity from VFL to AFL will lift considerably. Has anyone seen McBean? He is a very skinny kid and not AFL ready. You see players make the transition all the time and are completely out of their depth. This just destroys their confidence. The Geelong model is perfect. Their players dominate at reserves level for weeks before getting a game in their seniors. We cannot just give games to these kids until they are dominating at that level consistently or they will be shown up in the big league. VFL to AFL is an enormous difference.

That isn't the Geelong model. There players don't need to "dominate" at VFL level to get a game. A lot more emphasis goes into what they show at training and doing the small things in the VFL.

I think McBean has shown enough of the key basic footy principles to get a chance at AFL level in the next few weeks.

Then again I have a throw them to the wolves approach and it goes one of two ways - you survive and improve from it (good AFL career) or you perish (Delisted and suburban footy here you come).
