Brilliant first half in the Mexico v Germany game. Mexico 1-0 up and could have 3-0 up if their forwards had some decent ability on their non dominate foot inside the box. plus a couple of passes from outside the box were a bit too hard. Germany could have scored 3 goals as well. 10 attempts by Mexico 4 on target and 8 by Germany for 5 on target says there have been plenty of chances. Mexico slicing Germans up thru the middle on counter attack and Germany controlling their passes nicely when they have momentum.
The sets SBS are able to get at the last few world cups have been crackers. Last world cup on Copacabana Beach, elevated with big panoramic windows and view of beach and ocean was brilliant scenery, but to get permission to set up in Red Square would have taken some negotiation.
In the past they have had Cape Town's Table Mountain in the background in 2010, 2006 in Germany in front of the old Reichstag Building in Berlin with view of the dome - they didnt have full rights of Japan/S Korea, so they were in a studio in Sydney but I remember in Paris in 1998 they were close to the Eiffel Tower. USA 1994 they moved around a bit, but mainly San Francisco backdrop and 1990 they mainly did from a studion in Rome

We woz robbed on that penalty according to Fozz. GremioPower diegodcg what do you reckon of Craig Foster's analysis of the use of the VAR and disagreeing with David Elleray the Technical Director of the International Football Association board, where he says Risdon touched the ball but the technical director said Risdon lifts his leg and trips Griezmann but Foster says there is no lifting of the leg. The leg only is lifted when Griezmann's back leg clips Risdon's trailing run and it goes upwards then.
Lesson for Aussie defenders at the World Cup, dont slide in the box and you wont get dodgy refs and VAR giving penalties to the opposition.
Only a small percentage of people, maybe 20%, who watch the World Cup would be interested in paying to get the Optus App to watch the EPL. 1 game a week on SBS is plenty for the soccer fan who isn't passionate about an EPL team or the whole comp.I don't see what so many people are surprised about the #floptus coverage of the WC so far.
Been streaming issues since day 1 with the EPL as well.
some games I watch are sometimes up to 5mins behind which is pathetic when it's supposed to be live coverage.
I will say one thing optus is doing better than foxtel, is content with the EPL. So many good shows to watch on optus in that regard.

So why did the technical director make a point about raising the leg and causing the trip. If it was clear and raising the leg is irrelevant he shouldn't have mentioned it. I assumed Foster ( an ex socceroo and obviously disappointed) knew what he was talking about re the issue.I think it was a clear PK, regardless of Grizmann's action. As Law 12 states:
"A direct free kick is awarded if a player commits any of the following offences against an opponent in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force:
[...]
If an offence involves contact it is penalised by a direct free kick or penalty kick.
- tackles or challenges
- trips or attempts to trip
- Careless is when a player shows a lack of attention or consideration when making a challenge..."
Because it is Law! I had a professor who said: "Jurisprudence is the most precise science there is: Law is always precisely what we want it to be."So why did the technical director make a point about raising the leg and causing the trip. I disagree it was careless. Risdon kept his leg at the same height throughout the tackle. He did a lot of things right. Like I said previously it was the fact that Griezmann's follow through hind leg as it would naturally come up for the next step was prevented from doing so because the tackling leg ,being in the position it was, prevented it from doing so. As was said by an English dude on another football panel featuring ex Aussie skipper Paul Okon, if every contact was paid a free kick the whistle would blow every minute.Because it is Law! It is a matter of perspective. He is saying that: (a) Griezmann caused the contact; and (b) Risdon wasn't careless. My opinion is that Risdon was careless, and Griezmann "accepted" the contact — which is a possible action in such circumstances.
It is not every contact; and sometimes not even contact is necessary. Here is the link for Law 12:I disagree it was careless. Risdon kept his leg at the same height throughout the tackle. I assume you have tried to watch it in You Tube. Must be geo-blocked because of TV rights issues. Probably means you won't be able to see the twitter link if I find one because that will be blocked as well.I haven't said I cannot watch the video.
I was paraphrasing but I meant if every careless tackle was paid there would still be a truckload of interruptions. The Ger v Mex game was a classic example of a game where the ref only called obvious free kicks. So not only do we now have subjective refereeing from one game to the next, I think in these initial matches we are having subjective VAR decisions. It is not every contact; and sometimes not even contact is necessary. Here is the link for Law 12:

Differences from one game to the next is ok; specially if not the same referee. Distinct people call the game differently, and, within certain boundaries, that is absolutely fine.I was paraphrasing but I meant if every careless tackle was paid there would still be a truckload of interruptions. The thing is careless is as careless does. Whether rightly or wrongly tackles inside the box have a high chance of being paid, especially as the player being tackled will make a big thing of them. Defending teams have two options, don't go down in tackles in the box or keep doing it and risk giving away penalties. Screaming about the unfairness of the whole thing is not going to change the referees mind.I disagree it was careless. Risdon kept his leg at the same height throughout the tackle. He did a lot of things right. Anyone see the Tunisian fan with body paint that they showed after the goal on the telly this morning? Unfortunately there are only edited highlights on youtube so I can't find it. When the Tunisians did a Mexican wave, he did one himself.
