Brazil 0-0 England, at Wembley

Not good... :p
0-0 seems to be the standard score at the moment. Look at the scores in qualifying games since last Thursday night. Oz v Honduras 0-0 NZ v Peru 0-0 Switzerland v Northern Ireland 0-0 Greece v Croatia 0-0 Denmark v Ireland 0-0 Morocco v Ivory Coast 0-0 Italy v Sweden 0-0

It took Denmark v Ireland to break the drought and the Danes won 5-1 in Dublin this morning.

So down to the last 2 qualifying games Oz v Honduras and Peru v NZ.

Peru are ranked 10th in the world but haven't qualified for the finals since 1982. NZ are ranked 73rd in the world but qualified for South Africa 2010. Who is the underdog story here?
Peru have regularly been the 6 to 8th best of the 10 South American team since 1982 and usually ranked between 40 and 60 but since the last WC they have had big success against the big South American nations both in the WC qualifers at home, only lost to Brazil at home I think, and in the Coppa America 2015 and 2016 centenary edition and their rankings have shot up.

I think a top 10 ranking for Peru shows the failings of the rankings system when you only play as small number of teams and do well against them. If you had the top 40 teams play 78 home and away games each, I think Peru would be ranked in the 35-40 slot. Peru will start favourites and should win but its not a true 10 v 73. The Netherlands are a more a true 10th best side in the world than Peru.

OK, I am excited about tonight. Australia SHOULD qualify. But it has been hard to score for a while. Hopefully we can get Cahill out there for at least 10 minutes to win it for us.

I reckon we will leak a goal. Since the first 2 games of the 10 game 3rd round of qualifiers in Asian and then the 2 games we played against Syria we only had 1 clean sheet against UAE in Sydney and then the Honduras game so that is 9 games vs 2 that we have let thru at least one goal.

So I think we have to score 2 maybe 3 goals to win the game.

Yes, I do have the feeling Honduras might score. But I didn't want to be too pessimistic! If they score first, it will get very difficult for Australia.

#16 for the Socceroos on the left side is having a shocker. He has stuffed up his passes almost every single time he gets the ball.

Aziz Behich? Yes I agree.

Not sure what Mass Luongo did not to get a start in this game. Not sure how much game time he has had with QPR lately. I believe he had an early season injury but he was our best in the first game so can only think it’s his fitness to get through 2 games in such a short space of time.

So, Italy and the Netherlands are out of the world cup but one of these two teams will make it... interesting.

Not really anything to talk about except the shot from Rogic. Even if he had taken it better there would still have been a good chance the goalie would have saved, it din't look like he would have been able to change the angle much. Australia with all the forward play but all Honduras need is one good move. The line referees have made a couple of bad calls and that card on Mooy was a bit harsh.

Big deflection off the Jedinak free kick but we’ll take it

No goal but what a header from Cahill. I though he was going to just hit it nowhere but he beat the keeper and hit the cross bar.

There is always at least 1 big Euro team that misses out probably every second world cup you have 2 and sometimes 3.

I know, that's the way it is. But some really shit teams make at the expense of better ones.
