Round ball code talk

Only a small percentage of people, maybe 20%, who watch the World Cup would be interested in paying to get the Optus App to watch the EPL. 1 game a week on SBS is plenty for the soccer fan who isn't passionate about an EPL team or the whole comp.

Apparently if you have the Fetch TV box things have gone well for these subscribers.

So having no experience with the Optus App, but plenty with AFL and other sports, yeah its not totally surprising, but what is totally surprising is how little Optus were prepared to spend on infrastructure to minimise a stuff up. Surely they aren't that dumb not expect there will be a decent demand to watch the WC via an app if that's the only choice. I ummed and arghed about watching it on my phone/computer because I knew it wouldn't be great, but it wasn't until Thursday when I saw that SBS only has rights to 12 of the 48 group stage games, no final 16 games, no 1/4 finals and only got the semis, 3rd place game and final. Saturday morning I said **** it, I will pay $14.99 and watch some of the games on my laptop at 10pm or 1am for the decent games.

I would have hated to have not seen the Mexico 1-0 win over Germny and the Spain v Portugal 3 all draw on a decent HD TV screen and been forced to watch them on a small screen with buffering issues.
I've had Optus Sports and the Fetch TV box since they got the EPL rights, and I've had issues with their broadcast since the World Cup started. It always seems to the 2130 game that plays up the most, from what they've said that's when they have the most people on there.

I did watch all three games the Serbia/Costa Rica, Germany/Mexico and Brazil/Switzerland and the issues went through the first two games but had gone by the time the Brazil game kicked off, which was fortunate as I'd likely have thrown the box against a wall if it played up during the Brazil game.

Optus should be ashamed of themselves. They had to know how big the World Cup is, and how many people would be willing to pay to watch it. Their actual coverage with the pre and post game shows is top notch, just their product is faulty. Be nice if they could let SBS continue on with what they had the last 2 nights. That'd be ideal for everyone.

SBS are going to show all of the Group games.

Anyone who paid the fee for Optus WC will be refunded.

Ronaldo must have a severe case of B.O. Not one of the Moroccan defenders was anywhere near him until the ball was in the back of the net.

Yes Morocco were put back on their heels early but got back into the game and created some decent attacks

It's what happens when you take grey area out of decisions, if it is even slightly there it's gonna get called.

It'll force the players to be less shit in congested play

It was an awful call by the ref, there. That's not a handball. If the ball had hit the right arm, which went towards the ball, then a PK could have been called. But it hit the left arm, which was moving away from the ball. Ref screwed that big time...

As an outsider this makes no sense

The ball hit his arm in the penalty box

His arm was raised out from his body.

Maybe it’s wrong by the laws of the game, but that would make the laws stupid.

Don’t want to give away a penalty?
Don’t raise your arm away from body when defending in the penalty area. Simple.

Stupid would be having a shot at goal blocked by an arm and going ah well, his arm was allowed to be up in that particular instance because (insert reason here)

That's the very debate I was having with a Brazilian friend. I believe FIFA is trying to simplify the rule, but the medicine seems worse than the disease for me.

The arm was up as part of a natural movement since the Danish was running before jumping. Still, it was moving away from the ball, and not intentionally open to block it.

We seen to be lacking a finisher... twice we have scored by penalty, nil in general play ever though we have had many chances.

There were times tonight that you feel Cahill could have been highly useful and we may have walked away with a second goal.

Ever tried jumping laterally with your arms by your side? Have a crack and tell me how you get on.

This.

Italian fullbacks shadow wingers about to cross with their hands behind their backs like speedskaters so as to eliminate all doubt.

In terms of ball-to-hand it wasn't deliberate by the Dane, but if you're going to give that the benefit of the doubt in that position, why wouldn't every centrehalf jump with their arms up, 'accidental' or otherwise?

1. No way that was a pen but WGAF, we're still at the back of the karma bus in the great WC merrygoround of shit decisons.

2. Arzani is maybe the best talent we've produced in a generation and must start v Peru.

The rule states it has to be deliberate, and involve hand movement toward the ball. If anything his hand was moving away.

Not deliberate as in his intent, I think there's a strong question as to whether the arm position is 'unnatural' insomuch as it is up and directly blocking what was a clear header on goal after he was second to the jump:

(huge shove on the Dane by Milligan just beforehand btw)
