Oh wait... it looks like they actually might be doing it right:

"The three clubs involved have sought to create a fairer competition, which will have promotions and relegations and two leagues, with qualification coming through a team's performance in the domestic leagues."

This could actually be interesting. I've always been for the idea of a Super League as long as there are no clubs that gain an automatic entry or a permanent spot. It only works if anybody can win their way in or lose their way out. In fact it sounds like they are going with exactly the structure I proposed might work back when this started.

It's not 'doing it right', its back door nonsense.

The money they will generate in the first few years will effectively close the shop!

Then they will argue that the yoyo clubs are revenue losers/unable to compete so they need to get rid of the promotion/relegation aspect.

This seems to border on being a slippery slope argument. I don't see that ever happening.

Coming from a ManU fan. The early stages of the current set up is boring as well, and has been since it’s inception. Cant go back to what it was ‘cause some of these clubs might miss out on the $’s, and let’s face it, like the Premier League concept, where since day 1 money has not been split equally (and creating those yo-yo clubs), that’s what is all about.

It's the plan not a slope!

It has happened in nearly every major european league already. The same teams keep qualifying because of the money involved for qualifying (outside of oligarchs and despots).

It's like expecting a SANFL team to break into the AFL.

Personally I wish they'd just get on with it and stop the sham.

They should just set up a super league, say 12 teams and stop the BS promo and relegation concept.

Every 5 years or so expand.

All those Euro sports super leagues are just trying to replicate North American type leagues with one (or two) team per city spread out over a similar area and 400-500m people market.

Plus its the only way you will get a salary cap to work in Euro soccer even though Article 81 and 82 of the EU Treaty - anti-competitive practices probably wouldn't allow it.

There are salary caps in UK's Super (Rugby) League comp and Rugby Union's comp, but nobody has challenged them because they are somewhat constrained / regulated markets.

Because Euro soccer has 5 dominate leagues, you can't have a cap in one country as the players will then go and see if they can get a better deal in the other 4 leagues.

Plus the Bosman ruling has impacted the way transfers, payments are set up since that 1995 ruling. The ruling re the transfer regulations were seen as economic rules and therefore illegal - the EU has no power to contest sporting rules.

Germany will be the interesting ones here. Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are big enough / rich enough / successful enough to be in any super league but the German Football Association has the 50+1 rule where members get 50% + 1 share of any votes when an external investor or investors buy into the club.

I mean there were literally protests when they proposed no promotion/relegation though. I dont see it happening, but we will see.

I see no issue with the best 4-5 clubs in the world being there somewhat consistently as long as they are performing. Its just about making sure other sides also can get in.

This is what was originally proposed and people went nuts. Its definitely not something Id be interested in at all.

The political noose has tightened around Roman Abramovich's neck and Chelsea have been banned from selling merchandise or from signing new players. With the loss of at least three sponsors this has to impact on Chelsea's short term future.

Last week Abramovich signaled his intention to sell the club and I guess most Chelsea supporters will hope that can happen quickly and that the new buyer will have the same bankroll as Abramovich.

Yawn? Pool are still game in hand....
Same teams every time, teams that have ring fenced the European money.
It’s shit.

Get rid of them, let them join Europe and we can have a decent league again.

Despite what foreigners believe, these aren’t the only teams.

And after we stuff you at the City Ground next week, you can concentrate on the League title 🤣🙄🤪
Lol I've said all season I expect City to win EPL, but at least we've made it a contest.

The reality is that we've won Carabao and now sit very much alive in the other three, including the two big ones. I'll take that any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Ah I see what you're saying now. Disagree with you that it's shit... and chances are if you got rid of those big 6 or whatever it is now within a few years West Ham, Everton and co would just take their place. Hell even Sunderland thought they were gonna buy their way to the top at one stage. Its the system that creates it.

If the big 6 disappear then so does the $$

You mean the unevenly distributed $’s. Will make it a more even playing field and players will still make a decent living.

Or put it this way..... The team's what join the superleague continue to grow and prosper ect.. The team's still in the EPL become like Norwood.... Nobody cares except the old timers hanging onto the great days as the snafl I mean the EPL becomes a feeder league...

It’s shit because it has come to this, it didn’t need to, but greed wins out.

They aren’t clubs anymore, but multi National franchises, and it’s truly sad to those of us who grew up with football and the real rivalries.

Losing those teams would be great, lose the dollars, whatever, we’ll have a better league then.
The championship shits on the premier league as a competition.

That’s not really how football in the UK works, might it happen? Maybe, but if it does it will happen regardless as the current situation is de facto super league anyway all clubs are feeders to those with the euro money or the oligarch dollar. At least getting them out of the league will give it a chance to work.

The parallels/analogies with the AFL and SANFL just aren’t there.
