Four more years. If Arnold wants it.

"Sure, having some stability with this team, given the rise, is a good thing and we will talk to Arnie about that."

Lordy. The hinkley-fication of the Socceroos
The difference between Hinkley and Arnold is Arnold actually got results and made moves that made sense throughout the world cup. Even against Argentina we played with a gamestyle that gave us the best chance of winning. Making it out of the group stage in a world cup now is probably the equivalent of making a grand final in the AFL. He's also done it in 4 years.

In fact in many ways its the opposite of Port Adelaide.

The admin waited to see if Arnold could deliver, once he did they offered them a contract. Port just offers the contract, and when Ken doesn't deliver they blame it on everybody but him.

Then, BRA-ITA (1970/1994)

GER-ARG also happened in 2014.

Those are the only repeat finals in WC history.

P.S.: Going back to pre-WC days, then there’s also URU-ARG in 1928 and 1930.
Yep - was meaning back to back only though, which is extra special given its usually gonna be the same groups of players.

Awful penalty decision.

This is the biggest issue I have with VAR. They pick and choose when to use it. Surely VAR should overrule that refereeing mistake.
Lol its a clear penalty, he panicked and stuck his leg out to stop the guy from running around him. It wasn’t to stop a shot.

It clearly wasn't and I suspect this will be confirmed by FIFA before the final as pretty much all commentators are saying the same thing. Was barreled in to and had no options.

Regardless though, the best team won today. Croatia was good at controlling the ball at times but just never looked as potent up forward. Was probably Argentina's best performance so far.

I'm on team Morocco now (at least until tomorrow afternoon lol).

It was a silly penalty, accidental, but it’s still PK.

The goalie went for the save, didn’t find the ball, but bumped the Argentine. Foul.

I don't always agree with Gary Neville but this is a pretty good explanation.

Its also one that looked close at game speed but is pretty clear when you watch it back. This is why I'm saying they should have taken the time to review properly with VAR.

Do you mean the Croatian SBS guy that was obviously biased and wouldn't stop crying at half time?

Play a leading role in a World Cup win and Messi probably becomes the undisputed GOAT.

The continuous comparisons with Ronaldo v Messi

Crazy thing is Ronaldo's maternal grandparents immigrated to Perth around 2000, live in the outer southern suburbs of Perth and were market gardeners, But they keep a low profile and this Fox Sports story in 2015 revealed them to the public for the first time. There are 20,000 Portuguese immigrants in Perth and 80% come from Ronaldo's home town of Maderia

While the Portuguese mega star’s arrival with Real Madrid has caused plenty of hype in Australia, none will be quite so excited to welcome him as his grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousin, who live in Perth...............
Had fate gone another way, Ronaldo might have moved to Australia as a youngster. The Portuguese mega stars’ grandparents, Jose Vivieros and Maria-Angela Spinola, moved to Australia around 15 years ago from Funchal, in Madeira, searching for a different life.
Ronaldo’s mother, Maria Dolores, opted to remain in Portugal. Some of her siblings moved, but her son had started to climb the rungs at Sporting Lisbon. What a decision that proved to be. [Ronaldo was 14 or 15 when the grandparents moved]

Messi's parent's considered immigrating to Oz, as well as other countries because they were struggling financial, in the mid 1980's during Argentina first debt crisis, but they had a few more kids including Lionel. They had family in Catalonia and thru them organised a 12 year old Messi to trial with Barcelona. It was unusual for a big club to sign a 12 year old, but they were given an ultimatum to sign him or lose him, and a couple of months later the family immigrated to Barcelona.

No way would they become this good if they both ended up in Oz as teenagers.

Wow I stand corrected.

I thought the chances of it would be so low I didn't even bother to look it up haha

It’s the 7th time Argentina plays for the world title. In the previous 6 times, they’ve played against:

  • Germany, 3x (1986/1990/2014);
  • Uruguay, 2x (1928/1930); and
  • The Netherlands, 1x (1978).

There’s only another repeated final: BRA-ITA (2x).

The Argies like to repeat their opponents, it seems!

So they've won 2 out of 6? If they lose this one they're approaching Collingwood levels.
