Last trophy chance for Man City just disappeared with an extra time loss to Saudi side Al-Hilal in the Club World Cup. Still, Pep might be happy to be going home after having a whinge about the CWC "destroying" his players...

I don't understand this at all. Why does this suggest you should split them? It suggests the exact opposite no? The problem is that NZ and Auckland get free rides because they're in Pacific. They don't make it in if they have to fight it out for a spot with FC Tokyo.
Auckland City aren't qualifying throught the Asian Confederation, they're qualifying through the Oceania. So they beat the top clubs from Solomon Islands, Fiji. And it ridiculously even misses the top New Zealand players, because they'd be in the two A League teams.

Simon Hill's suggestion is to dump the Oceania Confederation entirely and then split Asia into two. So the Pacific Asian teams like Japan, Korea, China, Singapore, Australia.

Would also mean that Australia gets to dodge Iran etc...

Ah thank you, the bolded is the part I didnt understand. I thought he was just suggesting to push Australia back to Oceania.

Id be pretty disappointed with this as I feel like we'd lose our rivalries with Syria and KSA in particular.

For mine there should just be Asia Pacific. The smaller countries like Vanuatu would all disappear in early rounds based on ranking.

Had a quick look at the winners of top level of English football and including 2nd places its;

Man U 20-17
Liverpool 20-15
Arsenal 13-12
Man C 10-6
Evert 9-7

Man U won 13 titles in the first 21 seasons of the Premier League

1992–93, 1993–94, 1995–96, 1996–97, 1998–99, 1999–2000,
2000–01, 2002–03, 2006–07, 2007–08, 2008–09, 2010–11, 2012–13

Finished 2nd 4 times in those 21 seasons
1994-95, 1997-98, 2009-10, 2011-12

Liverpool won 11 titles in 19 seasons near the end of the old Division 1 League
1972–73, 1975–76, 1976–77, 1978–79, 1979–80, 1981–82,
1982–83, 1983–84, 1985–86, 1987–88, 1989–90,

Finished 2nd 6 times in those 19 seasons
1973-74, 1974-75, 1977-78, 1984-85, 1986-87, 1988-89

The last 2 years of Div 1, winners were Arsenal 1990-91, Leeds United 1991-92
Liverpool finished 2nd in 1990-91 and Man U in 1991-92

Its a classic case of when both Man U and Liverpool were hot, they were really hot for 2 decades.

With the amount of money involved and 4 or 5 other teams chipping away its highly unlikely a team will have such a dominate 2 decade run like these 2 teams had.

Man City have had a big 15 years but not nearly as successful as above 2. The next 5 to 7 seasons might say otherwise.

Won 8 titles in last 14 seasons
2011–12, 2013–14, 2017–18, 2018–19, 2020–21, 2021–22,
2022–23, 2023–24

Finished 2nd 3 times in those 14 seasons
2012-13, 2014-15, 2019-20

Ange is back baby.

Independent Italian sports journalist Fabrizio Romano released the story 2 hours before Nottingham Forest's tweet above.

Ange had 2 things going for him.

1. He knows the owner Greek businessman Evangelos "Vangelis" Marinakis. Marinakis is a billionaire involved in shipping and media, as well as owning Greece's most successful football club Olympiacos.

2. Sacked coach Nuno Espírito Santo recently came out and attacked Marinakis. Nottingham finished 7th in 2024-25, so they are playing in the Europa League this season.

Not sure if that means 2026-27 is Ange's 2nd season to win a trophy or just his first full season, given Nottingham have already played 3 games and he didn't get to have a pre-season with his players and plays a different style to Nuno's counter attacking game plan.

As I type this Nuno was sacked 15 hours ago in this short and to the point official announcement.

And Nottingham Forest's official announcement was just over 2 hours ago.

Tell me this REH, is the Head Coach still called the Manager? It appears in the EPL some teams have a manager who is the head honcho. So what is the Head Coach? So is Ange the head honcho?

As far as I know, Manager is the title in EPL that we give for head coach in AFL. He is the bloke that walks up his restricted area on the side lines and makes all the big decisions.
