He doesn't deserve a game
I'm relatively fine with JOM getting a game when the options are Sharp/NOD coz that's a wash imo (tho I wanna see Sharp in this team if he continues to develop his contest work).

But once Young and Freddy are back, JOM has to be 1 of the 2 out. Unless Young is turned into a half back, I genuinely don't see a valid counter-argument.

Bit off topic. But who do you think are Freo’s bottom 5 from the 23?

1. Scerri
2. JOM (his utility is his one saving grace.)
3. Worner.
4. Darcy
5. Wagner? I don’t mind him I just can’t think of anyone else…

Interesting question. if we didnt have Jackson running around, Darcy wouldnt be in here IMO. I think his TOG is just a result of how teams are using the 2nd ruck. But on current use, probably? He's still finding a way to be pretty influential. The other potential inclusions are Ras, McVee and Switta (on current form).

Any one that thinks Darcy is in the bottom 5 of our team knows SFA about the game. .
Dumb dumb, dumb.

Unpopular thoughts, but by his own admission I reckon Dudley is close to the bottom 5 picked if not in it already. Erasmus also would be close to this group, and I can see him being dropped before O'Meara in certain (not all) circumstances.

Don't get me wrong though, I'm a fan of both. But in the face of Young being available, if either are a little bit off track.....

I still think JOM goes first after Scerri but right now Wagner is also not the greatest of form so feel he will be next.

I think Dudley would have been bottom 5 but has quickly gotten out of there this year, though maybe I'm going too quick. we dont have anyone bar Bolton close to as dangerous at ground level as him. The only other goal kicker under 190cm we have in the the forwardline is Freddy and he's strangely more an aerial threat than actual ground ball win and kicked

Hypothetical: if Frederick and Young both come in against WC and Scerri and O'Meara are dropped. (O'Meara has performed well enough. He set up two early goal lowering his eyes with i50 kicks against Adelaide.) Then who covers O'Meara's gut running on wing? Brayshaw? Does Freddy rotate wing and high forward? Or is Wags, Erasmus and Johnson enough with cameos from Worner

Oof. Trust me, im a huge Darcy fan.
Mark Duffield was asked this question and put him there too. This is based on current form. Darcy has the potential to be a top in our 10 but right now is he doing anything unique to other ruckman out there? He’s obviously building his fitness.

It’s a tough one

Can someone remind me why Darcy isn’t fit?

I wouldn't say that, he played well against Richmond and apart from that last howler, his game against Adelaide was solid, he didn't get a lot of it, but when he did it was usually good.

The coaches obviously value him in the side, that's okay with me.

He was ok v Richmond and had a terrible 2nd half v crows

There’s probably only 2 you can say with surety in Scerri & Worner, the other 3 are a week to week proposition which is a great issue or non issue to have.
2-3 weeks ago it was Amiss & Chapman along with McVee, our depth is very good with most players displaying solid form.

Raz is very good at winning ground ball contests. His kicking has improved as well, so I'd have him over Johnson who just gives me the absolute shits with his decision making.

Worner is just a ball burner. He was much better last year when he was

There's being injury free and there's being fully match fit.

Every game Darcy gets less gassed. I thought he played pretty well on the weekend.

also thought jackson was getting bullied for a good portion in the ruck by mcandrew and would have liked to see darcy in there more often late

Darcy had a month out from high intensity running directly before the season with a calf strain. That's why we're being so cautious with his build. Jackson has looked good with the new rules, so it's been pretty convenient to play Darcy at reduced ToG%—we'd be playing Mason Cox at the same ToG% anyway. With that said, I'd take game against McAndrew as a bit of a warning for the Jackson full-time ruck believers.

Here's how I interpret this data/my impression of the ruck battle on rewatch: Jackson in the ruck wins hit-outs to advantage and gets clearances, but is also vulnerable to the exact opposite (surrendering a very decisive HTA --> clean exit to the opposition). Sean Darcy meanwhile is more of a neutraliser. You really noticed this when Adelaide were on top of us in the 3rd.

When we're on a tear, having Dogga in the ruck is awesome. If momentum is against us, Sean Darcy is not going to allow those decisive taps --> easy exits against him.

Darcy rucked a lot of the game against ROB—look at ROB's 0 HTA (taken with a pinch of salt; O'Brien not a very skilful tap ruck).

There's only so much Jackson can do against the genuinely big guys, McAndrew is 210cm and Jackson measured under 2m at his combine.

He's just not going to match it with that. Absolute weapon on the ground, but they'll beat him in the ruck contest itself.

We are fortunate that clubs are playing anyone tall they can throw out against us at the moment and Jackson can beat most of them for strength and match the others for leap before destroying them in ground ball, Darcy getting to match up against the opposition lumbering giant works well for us too. They all know Darcy will shove their colt out of the way if they don't play the big guy, but eventually they will try and play an extra runner.

Jackson makes them play two rucks, but he still is only really a match winning ruckman when hes against someone not really ready for AFL yet.

Bank the wins with this set up while it lasts.

Forecast is for a little bit of rain on Friday. Had 'late shower' yesterday, now it seems to be rain in the 1-5mm range. Doesn't seem a lot and there's a fairly strong wind - probably not as strong as Perth but Adelaide Oval doesn't seem completely sheltered from what I've seen. Could be a bit different to rain in Perth where it just crosses the coast and dissipates pretty quick..

Would be surprised if this "rain" hasn't well and truly passed by Friday night.
