Who I think we will actually select, as of today so to speak:

Collingwood ~ Round 1

B. B Maynard ~ J Roughead ~ J Noble
HB. J Crisp ~ D Moore ~ J Howe
C. S Sidebottom ~ B Sier ~ T Phillips
HF. J De Goey ~ B Mihocek ~ J Stephenson
F. J Elliott ~ M Cox ~ W Hoskin-Elliott
R. B Brody ~ S Pendlebury (c) ~ T Adams
I. C Mayne ~ R Wills ~ J Thomas ~ C Brown

E. D Cameron, N Murphy, M Scharenberg, T Brown

in line for being in the discussion for round 1 and considered for an emergency spot: T Varcoe, B Reid, J Daicos, J Rantall, M Keane, J Madgen.

for what it’s worth, I’d play Scharenberg and Murphy for Thomas and Brown C, but that won’t happen.

I really hope they do consider that Sier is in our best 22, and get him back into the side as soon as possible. If he can get his best form from 2018 back, he offers so much more than Wills, but it could be that we see them both in the team early on this year.

Varcoe did have that injury issue, so we wouldn't expect to see him in contention for a while.

Dont think they play Cox & Cameron in the same side along with Grundy in the ruck and Micochek.

Think Cox will get first crack. Not to say Cameron wasn't impressive but just a gut feel.

Mayne is a lock to play across half back. Noble will also play across the backline but likely start on the interchange.

How I expect us to line up come round 1:

B - Howe Roughead Mayne
HB - Crisp Moore Maynard
C - Phillips Pendlebury Sidebottom
HF - Elliott Mihochek Thomas
F - DeGoey Cox Stephenson
R - Grundy Adams Wills
INT - Noble Brown WHE Daicos

For whatever reason Scharenberg seems to be not mentioned or photographed anywhere. I really hope the Berg has a great year.

Based on the formal selection of game 2 in the practice matches this is the 22 I’m guessing the match committee will select. I’m basing this solely on known available S players and the selection pattern and last year’s general selections.
eg: Callum Brown is seen as a regular 22 pretty much, Wills is seen as having a spot before Sier....

I question some of the exact placements of players but that is exactly how I see the squad lining up at the moment.

It may speak to the way the side prepares for the beginning of the season. Dismissing it out of hand isn't very useful.
I asked for an explanation so that I may understand. Not a dismissal out of hand.

PS - don’t look for a fight you can’t win.

My main man! Welcome back, you are most welcome!

I question some of the exact placements of players but that is exactly how I see the squad lining up at the moment.
I tend to name a team with what looks better to my eye. (Not that it means anything. More an aesthetic in name placement. Eg this week the official practice team has Adams. as the ruck rover and Wills as the rover. To me that looks disjointed so I’d prefer listing it as R Wills then Adams. Makes no difference but Adams looks more rover than ruck rover so that’s how I tend to place names. Another example I dislike the Herald Sun listing teams with the ruck line centre placed not the traditional placement after the Forward line. Just something that I do, means nothing other than to me. A pedantic aesthetic of mine.)

Just on the above, taking all the remaining players left and placing them in a “seconds“ side it would look something like this.

NB. I’m naming the injured to indicate club depth. I will include the expected elevation of Dunn.
ive left D Beams out as to expected retirement the likely situation.
cat B’s included.

gee we have back line depth.

Bucks tends to have a senior and incumbent line up in rds 1-3 so I think Hoskin Elliot, Thomas and Mayne play.

there are probably only 2-3 spots up for grabs...

A half back mid sized defender role and an off the bench 7th defender role.

And whether it’s Cox or Reid up front
Cameron would be my pick ahead of cox and Reid

Thats prettty bloody close. Highly likely to be spot on. Cox is the incumbnt and did nothing wrong last week. Cameron wont play imo for team balance easons even with Reid unavailable. Most of the good stuff he did was in the Grundy role, so no vacancy there.

Personally I'd look to rolling the dice on some fresh blood and select either T Brown or Rantall ahead of Thomas. Daicos not yt a certainty and will need to repeat last weeks form against StKilda.

Backs and forwards look great but gee that Centre line is very underwhelming. Low on foot speed and kicking penetration.

Today's lineup

Crisp - Roughead - Howe
Maynard - Moore - Noble
Mayne - Pendlebury - Hoskin-Elliott
Sidebottom - Mihocek - Stephenson
Elliott - Cox - De Goey
Grundy - Adams - Wills
Madgen - Daicos - Phillips - C Brown - T Brown - Thomas - Keane - Cameron

Now please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Cameron and Keane played VFL yesterday, so I think we can realistically write them off for round one action. Only an injury to Cox or Grundy could see Cameron play; Keane's opportunities will come.

Left with 24 players, of which 22 are likely to take the field in round one barring any further injuries. From that list, Tyler Brown and Jack Madgen are probably the two that are on the ropes and will need to seriously impress to make the side. Having said that, Madgen continues to impress me and I reckon he'll get the round one nod over Daicos, due to having too little defensive depth in the side. Daicos is going to struggle cracking the team ahead of Brown, Thomas and Hoskin-Elliott, whereas presuming Noble plays down back, only Mayne and possibly Hoskin-Elliott for small stints stand as potential seventh defenders.

Predicted round one lineup:
B: Jack Crisp - Jordan Roughead - Jeremy Howe
HB: Brayden Maynard - Darcy Moore - John Noble
C: Tom Phillips - Scott Pendlebury - Chris Mayne
HF: Steele Sidebottom - Brody Mihocek - Jaidyn Stephenson
F: Jamie Elliott - Mason Cox - Jordan De Goey
R: Brodie Grundy - Taylor Adams - Rupert Wills
I: Will Hoskin-Elliott - Callum Brown - Josh Thomas - Jack Madgen

Good, not great side imo
