Re: Winged Crows

bode is out best small forward and had an awesome year in 06! Why wouldnt he be a walk up start???

Re: Winged Crows

Bassett Rutten Torney
Johncock Stevens Mattner
Doughty Edwards Van Berlo
Burton Bock Thompson
Tippett Welsh McLeod

Hudson Goodwin Shirley

Griffin Douglas Reilly Knights.

In: Knights

Out: Bode

But looks good, KT in a forward pocket is a good move
I think NC will have Perrie replace Tippett (would of been McGregor if fit). I hope Knights & Douglass also play - we are getting very cramped for room here....

Bassett Rutten Johncock
McLeod Stevens Mattner
Doughty Thompson Reilly
Burton Bock Edwards
Perrie Welsh Bode

Hudson Goodwin Van Berlo

Griffin Douglas Knights Torney.

I have made an assumption that VB will replace Shirles as the tagger, then it's either Shirley or Douglas on the bench. I think Douglas has the potential to offer more options (harsh on Shirles??). Douglas will miss if Roo plays.

Re: Winged Crows

So Mathew Bode is the only play on the Adelaide Crows list that can produce anything out of a forward pocket?

**Sighs***

No. Porplyzia and Vince could both do that job as well. I'm not sure Knights could and therefore I would not have him in the FP

Stop trying to slot Knights in ''just because'' . Yes we both agree he is going to be good, but for balance and position he may miss out. ( I would have him on the bench)

Re: Winged Crows

Looks increasingly like our R1 side might be as follows:

Bassett Rutten Torney
Johncock Stevens McLeod
Doughty Edwards Mattner
Burton Bock Thompson
Tippett Welsh Bode

Hudson Goodwin Shirley

Griffin Douglas Reilly van Berlo

Considering all our injuries at the moment, that side doesn't look too bad. Wouldn't play Tippett though, although if we want a tall forward pocket we don't have many options. I suppose we could rotate the ruckmen out of the forward pocket instead of off the bench.

Take out Torney insert Shirley and put VB on the bench and him and Shirley swap

Yeah but that was last season and this is a brand new season, shouldn’t pre season form be a strong indicator to warrant selection for round 1?

I don’t believe that Mathew Bodes (yes last year he was very good) form this pre season warrants automatic selection, IMO he is far from being a first choice player. I am not saying he will spend 22 weeks at Glenelg either but he has to earn his place in the side with some solid form. Something other players have shown.

The kid is young, ( Griffin) so he would need instruction on the bench from time to time. I would play Tippett, round 1 , its needed through injury and its Essendon. ( yes I am taking Essendon lightly, but only in relation to who I see as top 6)

.

Silly analogy. So a Test cricketer who struggles in his first few Shield games of a new summer should be dropped?

And i agree, go back and read post 23

Excuse me? But his form in the pre season warrants selection, I am not trying to slot him in “just because”, he gets a game because his form demands it.

But not in the forward pocket...thats the just because part

Re: Winged Crows

Those who are suggesting that Bode won’t be in our team come Round 1 seriously need to get a clue. Bode led the AFL in tackles inside 50 last year and kicked 32 goals and had 66 hard-ball gets. He is a crucial part of our forward line because not only does he kick goals but his forward line pressure creates opportunities for others.

Agree, I can't understand those who are saying he shouldn't play. He was very good last year, not just at kicking goals, but with his assists and defensive forward pressure, he is crucial to your forwardline structure. To replace him with a midfielder like Knights based on pre-season form is just stupid.

Bassett Rutten Torney

Interesting you've got Tippett debuting in round one after a limited pre-season. Is this kinda forced bacause of the injuries to your ruckman, and how does Griff go in the ruck, if he can hold his own there I can't see Tippett getting a game this early. I'd expect at least one of McGregor or Perrie to play ahead of Tippett, but other than that, the lineup looks pretty good.

Against Essendon we need a tall "stay at home" option to keep Fletcher from roaming the backline and being 3rd defensive spoiler.

While I like the traditional resting ruckman in the FP - I reckon both Huddo and Griff will need genuine respite on the bench.

I guess that's the season for Roo then......:(

How could this analogy fit Mathew Bode?

He is no where close to being an AA AFL player so he cannot demand a walk up place in the side.

Re: Winged Crows

So Andrew McLeod hasn’t been toying with a potential move to the forward line this summer? And Nathan Van Berlo not good enough to play on a half back flank?

Flexibility, especially in round 1 is needed.

This is where PC test cricketing analogy fits in nicely. Mark Ricciuto has the run on the board to simply suggest he is ready to go and demands a place in the side.

Meesen, Maric, and McGregor are all weeks if not months away.....Perrie has a hammy issue that is looking more like tendonitis.

This means we are down to looking at Sellar and Tippet if we want to have a 3rd tall option in the Fwd Line. While he is raw and inexperienced - if told to stay deep, he is more than a handy contested mark - and will keep Fletcher honest.

Griff has been going great guns over the PS - and even when the others are fit will seriously threaten for the #2 spot in his own right. He has a very very good leap - probably best at this club since a pre-injury Rehn

Hudson could ruck most of the game and you could have Griff splitting his time between ruck and 3rd tall forward. This would enable you not to play Tippett before he is ready and give someone like Knights a go.

That's an option - It will come down to structure and matchups.....but I do think that Tippett isn't as "unready" as some think....

I can't see him being match ready - does he know and understand how to fit in the structure, does he know all the plays etc? NC is hot on this, so this may set him back.

I dont think anyone has suggested Knights takes Bodes crumbing role. Knights is the midfielder, but Douglas or McLeod could do that role.

We need to find a way to get Knights in the side. Its round 1, we are playing Essendon, his preseason warrants it and so does his development. Remember he was in our side last year until he was injured.

tap to team mate when in ruck. mark ball in forward line....kick goal. Thats all he needs to know for the minute

I don't want to rely on Huddo rucking all day though, he will be knackered and burn out by Riund 10. Anyway with Ken out i now think Tippett is worth a crack and we are only playing Essendon at home, good chance to give him a run and he should kick 4 or 5. We will win by 10 goals.
