You guys cannot actually be serious, Richmond are better than a lot give them credit for, and while they wont admit it, they hide behind the persona they've created that is full of hatred for Richmond and bagging them at all costs, they'll improve out of sight with their draftees, especially Cotchin, who is ready made to go into the midfield, if Coughlan and Simmonds can actually play, as well as Nathan Brown who was absent last time we played them...

For those who are saying, 50+, 80+, even 40+, you are dreaming, it'll be a close game, I think will just run out winner, but by no means will we smash Richmond into 2009, that's just a stupid statement

Cotchin.......who has only just started some light running after breaking his foot..........would be surprised to see him have an impact in round 1.

Simmonds, Coghlan, Brown.........big ifs......big injuries..........lets see if they actually get through a full pre-season yet.

I agree that those predicting 80 points etc might be having a laugh, but I expect us, injuries willing to win. Their midfield will not match ours. Their defence will not match our forwards, and I can't see them winning enough of the ball to hurt us going the other way.
But is is very early and pre-season form could change a lot of minds.
We'll see.:thumbsu:

Yes that Cotchin, he will be fit by Round 1, and he will have an impact, I'm sure of it, he's of the highest quality, and I had him at #1 in the draft, and it was ONLY and I mean only when we got Judd, that Kreuzer became our #1 pick.

He will have an impact, he's too good not too, and the other guys who are coming off injuries, they'll be good to go, and their midfield will be pretty strong, and they may win enough ball to hurt us going the other way, and I think they'll kick a handsome score, but we just have to, like all of last year, kick a ridiculous score to win, which we're capable of, which is why, we wont play finals until 2010, until we have a rock solid defence again, which doesn't look like changing to much in 08, although with the TV Sports Channel going back into defence, it will help us

Yeah, I don't disagree, he is a quality player. I hope he is fit as with the others, as it would be great to beat the Tiges and have them with no excuses.

I just have my suspicions about how well some of these guys might go trying to get fit for round 1.

Richmond wont be bottom 4 in 2008 - that much I am sure of. Carlton by 9pts.
That's the thing. Just because they have an abnormally large number of ****wit supporters (usually seen here) doesn't mean they have a bad list or will play badly. I think they'll bounce back to their customary ninth this year.

That said we should still win. On paper.

I think that's Richmond's big name recruit Mitch Morton with the long blonde hair.

^^^ Gold :D:D:D

Who is the midgit behind the two in the white caps?? gun recruit 2

And the guy in the white shorts on the right....gun recruit 3

Also the guy in the top left corner...gun recruit 4

I'm worried about round 1 now.....

Round 1 prediction:
Twice the number of Richmond trolls on this board after they cop a hiding.
Loads of threads on the Tiges board like:
- Has Terry stayed too long
- Will Tambling ever be any good
- Should Richo retire
- Why did we sack Gasper
- Has anyone heard the rumours about Polak
- Why does the Carlton Board hate us so much :)o)

.........that sort of thing.:thumbsu:

I must admit, it's hard to keep tabs on just who Tiges supporters rate on their list. The December-February period is traditional for the "...Tambling is training the house down..." talk-up threads, or "...this is only Tamblings 1st/2nd/3rd/etc full preseason..." excuse threads, or the classic "..we weren't expecting Tambling to do anything until he was 21/22/23/24/25 yo etc etc ". Predictable, but funny. I also remember this time last year, Tiges supporters were applauding Miller for landing Kent Kingsley, and claiming he would deliver a minimum of 50 goals per season. This year they have picked up 2 players who spend a significant period of 2007 in the VFL and WAFL, and now they are being talked up as superstars. It's funny, but also a little sad. In season 2007, many football commentators rated the Tiges list as the worse that had been assembled in the past 25 years, after their 150 point thrashing. The reality is, not much has changed, and nothing will change until Miller and Terry are given the boot. The Richmond Football Club is a complete disaster, spiraling out of control. :)

I know this is very early but I thought after the round one result, it would be interesting to see who predicted the closest. This is mine..

Scores:
Carlton 3.5 7.9 13.10 17.14 116
Richmond 4.4 8.6 10.10 13.15 93

Goals - Fevola 4 Waite 3 Fisher 2 Betts 2 Walker Murphy Simpson Judd Houlihan S.o'Hailpin

Goals -Richmond - Richardson 5 Pettifer 2 Tambling Deledio Newman Cotchin Simmonds Brown

Best: Carlton- Fevola Waite Walker Judd Murphy

Best: Richmond- Richardson Newman Deledio Brown Raines

Attendance 69,161

If Bitchmond get within 40 points of us, it will be a bad result.

If Bitchmond scores more than 70 points against us it will be damned miracle.

If Bitchmond scores more than 70 points against us it will be damned miracle.

Because we really have a top line defence that can stop teams kicking 11.4 or 10.10... you really are deluding yourself if you think that Richmond will score less than 70, unless of course, it's pouring with rain and the scores end up like 55-45 or something.

They will get within 40 points of us, in fact, I wouldn't be at all surprised if they are leading at HT

Prediction for this game is so easy....no doubt.......we will win............Judd factor will prevail.............Stevo.....Murphy.........Kazza..........Kreuzer...........Fish........Fev.............OH my God we will make finals 08...............Blues forever.....

can some of you be a little realistic please. This will be a very hard game for us, and being a Thursday night clash means there will be 60-70,000 MAX.
Tough one first up for Ratts. Can not wait nonetheless.

I'm CarltonFan, and thats my take.

Mate its a Thursday night game, but Friday is a PH. First game of the year, Judds first game, 80,000+ is all but guaranteed.

If put Judd and Stevens into any team in the AFL they are going to look pretty friggen red hot. Come on, seriously, that is a phenomenal injection in anyones books.

Murph has been playing with the heaviest tag possible, now, maybe nothing serious, what does that say for Simpson, Walker, Gibbs ? Will they be running around with Wallace begging them not to engage from the sidelines ?

Houlihan will be stationed in the forward line full time, this is significant.

Delivering into the 50, and scoring from the 50, will be 4 players who were not last year....Judd, Stevens, Gibbs, Walker. Further the forward line will be permanently bolstered by Jackson, cloke or Waite.

Our back line will be bolstered by hadley who I would have starting round one and possible another one (or two?) of armfield, Browne or pfieffer.

One of Austin, Grigg, Aisake, Hartlett, Anderson will hopefully step up. Bower has settled in as of the end of last year as has Setanta. Thats a minimum of five very capable players to help out scotland, thornton - with depth and epxerimentation and if things go wrong we can resort to old habits and throw Walker, Gibbs, Waite down back if need be.

Ackland is well acknowledged as the great hole, I think Cloke will greatly assist in this department along with Hampson. Admittedly it is only blues supporters who can see hopes for this guy, but he has given us good signs to be hopeful about. Aisake by many reports is the man mountain, has been elevated and if he is anything like his brother (sounds like he is) he will have determination in spades.

Ackland, Cloke, Hampson, Aisake and Maybe Kreuzer gives us plenty of options to experiment with, and depth, when delivering to our mids and around stoppages. We are going to get beaten by the best, but will start to hold our own against many other teams, this really is a big step forward.

Not the same team by a LOOOONG shot. Looking balanced all over the ground, if young, unproven and full of hope, but still with a lot more than chance behind these guys as we can see their potential and it is exceedingly exciting.

This is a vastly different structure to last season, comparisons are exercises in imagination. The flow on effects through the team are tremendous.

Hadley releases Walker into the middle.
Armfield releases Gibbs into the forward line-mid field.
pfieffer releases Waite into CHF

Judd releases Stevens, Releases Murph, Releases, Walker, Releases Carrazzo, releases Simpson etc.

This Carlton team, would beat the Carlton team of last season by 5-10 goals.

It's always great to have the bye in round 1

Seriously when was the last time we wasted a side by 100 points ?
Cause I suspect that is going to happen next year, bring on Richmond, they are ripe for the slaughter !!

Was it the West Coast game at Princes Park back in '00 or '01. Can't recall which year it was. That's the last game I can think of off the top of my head.
