Round one selection dilemmas

Cloke is an absolute definite.
Don't get the anti Cloke stuff.
Must be because we have five similar Cloke types to choose from.
Ridiculous.
Cloke would be Ross Lyons greatest dream, Freo would love him.
.
Only Gault came close in the 1st qtr when he sprayed a kick. Moore kicked 4 straight, didn't see much of a resemblance there.
Imagine Cloke went to Freo on a higher contract then he got from us. In his last years and current form, nobody would raise an eyebrow if he would now future in the "ex-collingwood players turned to spuds" thread.
Lol, you obviously haven't realised in 2016, constant negativity, doesn't improve things, it can be very destructive.
Says he who leads the Anti White Brigade. The spawning of the "Free Us of Clokes Kicking, He is Mediocre" society in its wake is therefor justified.

I'd bring Greenwood in for Caff and possibly Aish for a small back (Sinclair).

Keep the three tall forwards and Witts as the ruckman, which means no Grundy.

Them fighting words ;)
I thought I was the brigade to move on Toovey, Macaffer, Goldsack, and especially Blair.
I have always said, White lacks football sense, he's no lock on playing. A depth player these days.

Actually I'm not anti anyone who earns their spot, though evolution of the list is the natural order of things.

But Clokes presence, his strength, his taking the biggest best back an opponent is all vital for us these days.
If no Cloke, then as an example Moore gets better defender, his passage to greatness is delayed somewhat.
Gault taking Rance (example), no having Cloke is so significant.

Now if Cloke gets the support of a secondary big player, then some pressure is released from him and he can again be the monster we all love. Big marks, holding off tough back men

You are thinking of last years Cloke problem mixed with a kicking efficiency going back even further. There is that secondary player, maybe not as big. His name is Moore who is taking pack marks and kicks straight. I haven't seen much of a passage of play today where Moore got the mark because he had the lesser opponent or there was a 2 on 1 on Cloke. Cloke got gifted 2 goals, both 2 mtr from the goal max. Not the type of goals you would like to see from our monster main fwd. I would have expected it the other way around.

I'm not at all convinced by Marsh as much as I want him to develop. Is he really a defender?

Marsh be better playing the Maxwell role by being a Free Defender

Marsh be better playing the Maxwell role by being a Free Defender

I reckon you need a really sound knowledge of game plan and a natural disposition to anticipate. Marsh is nowhere near there yet. If anything I think he'd play a better wing/receiver role.

Blair is ordinary, Macaffer no. Gault and Cox no. Sinclair god no. Ramsay preferably not.
You must mean Blair is ordinarily good, right?

I was going to say the same thing, but would not have been able to phrase it as well. :)

Maynard in for Sinclair
Blair stays
Greenwood in
Marsh borderline, noting his strong debut at scg last year
Ruck - who knows how they'll go

Greenwood a certainty,
I think Sinlcair has better form than Maynard
Blair definite
I think Gault cant be omitted so we will go in with three key forwards and one specialist ruck. Unbelieveble that Grundy might miss out round one but thats a possibility due to Gault and Moores form.

Not all negative. He likes Varcoe and thinks he is in the best 22, even though some of us don't apparently.

There are selection dilemma,s galore just what we need to be able to improve.White is probably the only player to have had his cards marked the rest of the list have fared better.
I don,t really want to see Marsh and Frost in the same team,if that happens often we will still improve but it will be harder. As it stands I expect Fasolo,Elliott and Moore to be our main source,s of goal,s which may help Cloke anyway.I like to play Gault as key forward and 2nd ruck but Witts must play anyway.
Swan to play forward 60/40 anyway and I would be keen to have pendles playing back 30 to 40%of the time that would clean up our disposal down back especially if Reid does not come up.
I don,t like to think about the midfield too much it is to hard as long as Adams and Trelore are in there somewhere we will be okay.

Varcoe may be blissfully unaware he is held in such esteem by the ultimate prognosticator of all things Carringbush. Perhaps for Mr Varcoe we should let him know.

You may be 100% correct!
Let the game of thrones selections begin

This. Even though I think Maynard will become a star and his kicking is something we very much need out of our back line.

Blair is ordinary, Macaffer no. Gault and Cox no. Sinclair god no. Ramsay preferably not.
Blair is reliable makes few errors, Macaffer may come back he has been out 2 years, Gault maybe yes, Cox ask me in a few months, Sinclair god yes, Ramsay preferably yes

F: Blair - Moore - Gault*1
HF: Fasolo - Swan - Cloke
C: Sidebottom - Grundy - Varcoe
HB: Sinclair - Brown - Oxley*2
B: Langdon - Frost - Williams
F: Pendlebury, Adams, Witts

I: Treloar, Crisp, DeGoey, Greenwood

*1 Gault promoted. We are a bit weak in the forward line at the moment with Elliott out, Howe/Broomhead availability unknown, White having a poor season start and being moved back, and none of the draftees showing anything yet.

*2 With apologies to Maynard, Marsh and Ramsay. I think Oxley has performed well and gives us the best rebound out of defence of those players. Worth backing him in round 1 off the back of his re-signing. We are batting incredibly deep in the backline now - much better condition than the forward line.

----

And another thing ... That's an incredibly strong team to begin the year with.

Add Aish, Maynard, Marsh and Ramsay to the available players - nobody would be surprised if any of those played round 1.

Add Elliott, Howe, Aish, Broomhead, Reid to come back in off injury

Add Caff ... He hasn't shown much yet, but he ain't in our leadership group for nothing! Can't write off an experienced player. Ditto Toovey.

Add the potential of Cox

Add the draftees Philips, Crocker and Wills. Smith has shown something. Might be waiting next year for Sier.

Add Scharenberg to come in end of season.

Add the 'bolt from the blue' (there is always one) from White, Goodyear, Golds, Wyatt.

The future looks bright - for the AFL and VFL teams!
