anybody know if theres a pub near the ground we can get to early before the game? Id like to avoid the traffic that could be happening due to the triathalon. This is my first trip to adelaide so hopefully it will be memorable for all the right reasons :thumbsu: go bombers!

so you will be looking for a drink at 10am

its really only a couple of hours before the game being a 12:30 start? im sure most of you have had a few quiet ones at a pub before 2pm starts. The earliest I have had a beer is on anzac day and by the time the bounce came I couldnt tell who was who but it was a ripper game!

There is the Crows Tavern located at AAMI Stadium or the Lakes Resort Hotel that is on the other side of Westfield shopping centre (about 5 mins walk)

Use the yellow pages link for the address.

So hulld, where do you think McVeigh should play?, which position do you think he could hurt sides most when playing?

i agree with you that his most damaging position is in the midfield. i reckon he has the best disposal out of anyone and he is quick and strong.

the only problem with him playing midfield is that we don't have an obvious choice for the gun small forwards. mj use to be able to play this role but his pace has decreased a bit.

i think that mcveigh has to be used to man up on guys like:
didak
farmer
mark williams
ablett/chapman
shannon grant/brent harvey
davey
ebert
nathan brown
milne
brad johnson/aker

hopefully in the years to come slats can take the big jobs, but i don't think he is ready at the moment

I think that's wasting him. McVeigh's got great fitness and great pace. McVeigh is also the most likely of the small defenders to stop his opponent. Impact players are guys that struggle with the pace of the game, those being young players and older players. McVeigh has no such problem and thus, is a full game player.

I agree with you he has no problems running out a full game. He has been on our list a long time however and hasnt been able to crack a midfield role and our options in the middle are getting better not worse. I currently see Welsh, Michael, Slats, McPhee, Lovett-Murray and Fletcher as our top 6 defenders so didnt think he was a starter. He is to good to be a magoos player, and not in my starting 18, but used as a burst player I think he would be fine. Maybe play him in defense in the even quarters and move McPhee through a midfield rotation then rest him for 15-20 minutes for the odd quarters and bring him on when the opposing guns have a bit of lactic acid building up.

I've got to say that McVeigh is far, far superior than Slattery and Welsh. I can't believe how he wouldn't make your starting 18. McVeigh is one of our better players and using him as a burst player would be a waste.

he wasn't in the starting 18 because he was picked in 15 out of the 18 positions. the final team was based on be picked to play in one set position

Strongly disagree, IMO McVeigh is our best small defender and would easily fit into our top 6 defenders, it's a joke to think that Slattery or Welsh are better defenders than McVeigh. As GoDOns said before, he is a full game player and shouldn't be wasted by using him in bursts.
