Since we have a cross-pollination of a few specific pre-occupations emerging time and again across most threads on the NM board at the moment, I feel like it would be healthy to have a thread where posters can happily vent about their pet obsessions to hearts content.

So, in a round-robin competition where you have a team of Will Phillips, competing against a team of Bailey Scotts, and a team of Toby Pinks, and team of Caleb Daniels - who wins?

For me, the team of 22 Will Phillips would come out of the starting blocks firing on all cylinders, but its an open question whether they could create an unassailable lead by halftime. By which time they're so gassed that its just a matter of hanging on for dear life.

The Daniels, I reckon, would smash them in the second half.

The Phillips of course would be relying on scoring from stoppage. The Scotts would blitz them on the overlap run, but couldn't be expected to win enough contested ball for it to matter in the long run.

The Pinks' height advantage means you'd have to favour them in the ruck contests, as they could just grab the pill straight out of the air.

If the Pinks manage to actually take a clean kick away from stoppage, they could be expected to link up uncontested marks from one end of the field to the other without much running at all. But would their kicks hit their targets? And could the Pinks actually tackle a Daniel without giving away a free?

Can't help but feel the team of Daniels would represent the kryptonite for the team of Pinks, because every time the Pinks fumble a certain mark or kick, the Daniels would be at their feet, ready for a snappy crumb off the deck.

So I could see the Pinks winning against the Phillips and the Scotts, but maybe not the Daniels.

But then the Phillips would beat the Daniels in stoppages convincingly enough in the first half that the Daniels might not be able to stage a comeback in time.

In sum:

Pinks beat Phillips
Pinks beat Scotts
Daniels beat Pinks
Daniels beats Scotts
Daniels beats Phillips
Phillips beats Scotts

END OF SEASON LADDER

The Daniels
The Pinks
The Phillips
The Scotts

But what do you reckon?

22 Scotts could run around all day and don't even need a ball.
22 Phillips would only last 2.5 quarters before the game would have to be called off.
22 Daniels could be mistaken for the little league but would definitely outplay the Scotts and Phillips IMO.

But the winner is - 22 Pinks. Too much effort, too much heart, too much height and despite not being overly athletic, would probably get it in there enough times to outmark the Daniels one too many times. Unfortunately for the Pinks they would likely miss the key shots at goal, but in a close call I'd say they may get up by a point

I think Team Pink would win against all 3 due to making less mistakes and the fact when inevitably Teams Scott, Daniels and Phillips kick a point. Team Pink just need to bomb kicks to contest and just let each Pink take a grab. He's 6ft 4 and their all 5 ft 10 and shorter. On top of this, the regular turn over in the backline where Team Pink would score many Joe the Gooses.

Good thread.

The Pinks.

Grab the ball out of the ruck, or tap it high to the next pink, one kick, one mark, shot on goal, rinse, repeat.

Given there is no send off rule and no subs, there is another tactical advantage there.

Any free kick given away will result in a down the line kick which may not even make it over the mark, given the opposition cannot kick it over a jam tin.

Could they be trusted to actually kick a goal though?

And when they invariably score a behind, what if the Daniels or the Scotts just handpass it from one end of the ground to the other?

You would think the Pinks should be able to dominate the air and ruck to the extent the shots will be 30m out.

I did make the assumption the Pinks would flood the backline and play dirty up the field.

I also made the assumption the games were on the same day, so the Pinks are a 66.6% chance of winning the bye in games 2 or 3 against the Phillips who will be gassed during game 1.

l would have pick a team of Phillips but Pinks have the height advantage and can play in most positions of the ground comfortably where as Phillips team can't.

Phillips team would not have the endurance to Pinks team or the height but unlike the others his defensive skills are good enough to match Pinks.

Daniel team would be obliterated by Pinks team due to no height value.
Scotts team would be running around like chooks without heads all day due to their endurance but not get anywhere.

So for me its Pink narrowly over Phillips due to height (pardon the pun) then Daniel with Scott still running around everywhere on the ground chasing the ball..

This is an offseason thread for the ages.

But I feel it's wasted by deploying it mid-season.
Have to disagree Chadwiko, it helps to lessen the stress of thinking about whats to come against the Tiggers...and to see you and Nosta going at it all the time..:laughv1:

Thanks Makeshift Park..:thumbsu:

What about 22 Daniel-sized Toby Pinks vs one Pink-sized Caleb Daniel?

Everyone.

This is the gold standard post. If you can't match this in your contributions, respectfully, refrain from posting.

Thank you.

Sadly I've seen these kinds of matches many times over the years - 4 groups of clones fighting it out for the entertainment of uber wealthy and influential families.

Rumour has it Kim Jong Un celebrated excitedly when his favoured team of 22 Atu Bosenavulagis prevailed over teams of Curtis Taylors, Lachie Youngs and Connor Menadues. Fair bit of talk the latter 3 teams were all stabbed prematch though, Maximus Meridius style.

Bizarrely the 22 Curtis Taylors still turned up at the Pyongyang Birdcage that night.

But these clone games always degenerate into Survivor style alliances. The Pinks would quickly realise Scott's with their run give them groundpower to quickly kill off the Phillips via asphyxiation and the Daniels via infanticide.

After that it's just a matter of gently euthanising the Scott's who are still bounding along like puppies taken up to the park leaving the Pinks to hit the podium solo.

It happens every time.
