i do believe jones had a bad year but i do rate him as a player and yes he is a VC, but i still think he has something to offer in 2005

Agreed.

The problem with Jones is that he's a VC that is'nt in our best 22, with more talented youngsters coming through he will fall well out of favor.
So why keep him when we could trade him for something pretty good , with clubs looking at hime because he is a VC.

When he was named a vice captain he was coming off a good year, I don't think it was expected that we was going to respond with just about his worst year since his debut. If he doesn't bounce back hard next year he'll probably be traded, which is a shame because when he is in top form he is a very handy player.

It will be interesting to see if he keeps the vice-captaincy for next year.

i agree with that.

He's well respected among the players with is why he was given the VC in the first place, but i have a feeling that he might not have the role next year. He's not in danger of being delisted this year but like some of you others, i feel that he's been over taken by the younger bunch coming through and it could mean that another lean season will see him being traded.

I disagree that his VC will be stripped off him. Im sure he is already a little nervous knowing that he has extra responsilbility and that he is coming off a bad year and that a lot of the youngsters are pushing for selection. Taking the VC off him IMO would only make things worse. It would be like kicking him when he was down.

Don't waste any time knocking one of our own eh?

Had a terrible season, he'd admit that himself. A lot of us were curious during the season as to why he was so good in 2003, in 2004, he just seemed to never be switched onto the game. Relenquishing him of the vice captains role would be a good move, relieve some of the pressure. It's not a kick in the guts, just giving the job to another bloke, and letting Jonesy worry about his own football.

He just needs to do what he did in 2003, be in the right spot at the right time, take strong grabs off a half forward flank, and gather around 15 touches a game, generally being an extra link man between half back-half forward. And do a few extra sessions with Murray Couper ;)
