Have heard that Essendon are sniffing around Ro too, which is why the request came yesterday from Ro. His preference is the Cats. Who wants to go to Essendon as a 30yo

Marshall won't be rotting in the VFL if he stays. I think we all know that.Sure. Keep a disgruntled player and let him rot in the VFL. Or take an R1 pick for a 30-year-old surplus to requirements player. I think even SOS isn't pig-headed enough to know what is ultimately in St.Kilda's best interests.
I think there's a world of difference between pinch hitting on a rotation defenders aren't expecting and being a starting forward that defenders do homework on.Marshall can be an effective forward (despite some of his set shots) and Ryder's elite tap work certainly made a difference by giving our pretty crap midfield a chance. I think the two ruck prospect is less important now that our mid setup is more proactive but I still doubt we settle for just an okay pick.

It's possible that Geelong may throw in its second round pick in return for the Saints' third. Beyond that and I think it becomes comical.Marshall won't be rotting in the VFL if he stays. I think we all know that.
I'll be surprised if the Cats say it's this year's first and nothing else and leave it at that.
Most Saints and Cats fans on this thread have been pretty fair with their value of the trade. Now it's getting close fans want to try and play hard ball by the looks of it but I think we will see a fair outcome in the end.
Bringing up a trade from nearly 20 years ago for a ruck that played 6 games the year he was tradedCats traded Steven King to the Saints for pick 90. At the time he was 28, a premiership player, 2 time best and fairest and an all Australian. A late 1st rounder seems very reasonable
Sure, there's a quality gap but if you offered TDK and Marshall to Fagan I'm certain he'd only play one.Probably would have won by a lot more if they had TDK and Marshall instead of those two also.
I think most would agree we are more likely to see dual rucks with the extra on the bench.
Anyway, I'm not suggesting Marshall will be here next year. I think we all know he most likely won't be. But I also think we'd be a better side with both playing so it's not the end of the world if Cats try to get him for unders and he stays.
A fair trade will be done though.
Why would he be happy to play two average rucks but not two good rucks?Sure, there's a quality gap but if you offered TDK and Marshall to Fagan I'm certain he'd only play one.
I could be wrong but I think it's just media positioning
I'm sure later picks can be used if Mackie is desperate to have them. It's possible that Geelong may throw in its second round pick in return for the Saints' third. Beyond that and I think it becomes comical.

Why? are you wanting a mid-tier ruck then. Not sure he is top 5-7.
Gawn, Xerri, Grundy, Jackson, Meek, Witts, English, Cameron, TDK.
A 1st rounder is plenty for a mid tier ruck.
Completely different circumstances though. Marshall had two years to run on a deal that has been front ended. It was more to point out that when a player has given his all to a club but the club prefers somebody else (Ottens), you can't ask for the world, you do the right thing for the player
We are in a better position than your arrogant no good clubLol
Your assuming because you’ve added a flashy TDK (who can’t play forward & halves the ruck) but you’ve lost Marshall( who can play both), added SOS who averages 12 games year, Ryan who averages less & some other spud, that the sainters will miraculously bound up the ladder?
On the occasion TDK does tap the ball, what midfield will their be in the other end?
You’re in the doom & gloom with the rest of us ol’ sport.
Its’s just cost you $4.5m/ year for the luxury.
Add the extra $1.5m your paying NWM.
Yeeouch!
Let us reconvene when all is done and the dust has settled.I'm sure later picks can be used if Mackie is desperate to have them.
Not sure comical is the word is used. But as I said, I'll be very surprised if this year's first is enough, happy to come back and discuss once the trade is done
You are happy with ending the Silvagni dynasty. We just received band 1 (pick 9) for TDK - Thankyou SOS.
19 for JSOS is amazing (!) for a solid backman who plays 1/2 a season on average.
The club was happy to take the compensation & run given we have 2 top-10 fathers sons this/next year.
Curnow leaves only if we let him leave - 4 years to run on his contract. If he does it will be our our terms & to our benefit.
Be honest - Marshall leaving must make the TDK acquisition seem a little daft?
I'm saying his first and best option would be TDK and Berry who wasn't availableWhy would he be happy to play two average rucks but not two good rucks?
Especially when one is at least a threat forward.
Didn't want to pay his salary.Melbourne traded Grundy for pick 46 and a F2 because the player didn't want to play as a forward/back up ruckman

Why would we sit him in the vfl mate ? even with tdk there would still be important roles for rowanYou do realise this is the second time Rowan has asked out…
You planning on sitting him in the VFL for those two years?![]()
If you are trying to claim Grundy was a cap dump then come on man. Be seriousDidn't want to pay his salary.

That was quite literally the case. Collingwood are still paying part of his contract. If you are trying to claim Grundy was a cap dump then come on man. Be serious
I rate sdk a good defender but he is completely lost when playing in the ruckBlicavs played very well as a ruckman in two finals. If anything Scott stuffed up by bringing Stanley back.
SDK has played ruck and we will have Kolo available to cover him in defence.
Neale can chop out.
Conway we have to wait and see if he can get his body right.
It's not exactly like it's Marshall or bust. So why overpay?
