Recommitted Rowan Marshall [OOC 2027] - Requested Trade to Geelong, didn't get done

When he was a 30 game developing player handing over with an elite ruck who was tapering off.

If Gawn and Grundy, with full buy in from the players, lasted half a season then this will last half that

Grundy can't play except as a lone ruck. Hes never been a forward. Marshall has.

Here and there he has pinch hit for a worse return than Melbourne gets from Gawn resting there.
who says it has to work like that, Roma and TDK swapping ruck duties and also being a roaming half-forward, both mobile enough to do it, Height is something we desperately need, neither has to be a stationary forward target, There's plenty of scope there if the players buy into the vision

Do they though?

Marshall for SDK straight swap

which team says NO
He's a premiership player already so possible if he just wants to play with his brother now. But he'd be silly to do it if he wants to potentially win more premierships or just play in finals and contend. Only thing that would draw him there apart from TDK is Corey Enright and perhaps money if Saints were stupid enough to throw even more money away.

Very good chance NWM leaves and the Harley thing doesnt happen
Tall CHB would be a required player as they are a bit shorth in that dept and money wont be an issue with Marshall leaving
They have Keeler & Dodson as backup Rucman also

But Sam doesn’t want to leave so it’s a mute point…

Have a strong feeling Keeler won't have contract extended as he's out of contract this year and if Nas leaves would mean Keeler will want out too. Pretty certain he wants back to SA too.

Neither does Tom

Oh My God Wow GIF

For all the memes, we'd genuinely have about 5 guys on more than 600k.

Holmes - 750-800k
Smith - 700-900k
Stengle - 650-750k
Stewart - 625-725k
Cam Guthrie - 750-800k

Cameron finishes the end of his big contract this year (900-1m) and he'll probably drop off a couple 100k, if not more.

Cam Guthrie's big deal that be signed off the back of an AA/BNF season ends this year, and he'll almost certainly retire/delist.

Danger's on a two year deal now, where he openly said "Just give me whatever's left over".

We'll be coming into some cap room with no real obvious people to pay now that Dempsey has been sorted, and Neale, SDK, etc are locked away.

His contact should be no issue.
You reckon Jeremy Cameron is going to shed $200k+ off a $900-$1m deal after kicking 90 odd goals this year?

No chance he's on less than a mill next year.

He'll get a good contract but it won't be the same as he would get elsewhere. The farms are a bit of a trap. He can't really commute to Melbourne so can't really move clubs.

Does Dodson's finish to the VFL season make Marshall more expendable? He's inconsistent, which is to be expected from a 19 year old ruck but in the last month he's had a game with 29 disposals, 10 clearances, 35 hitouts and 3 goals and just on the weekend he had 35 disposals. 7 clearances and 41 hitouts.

Could be worth cashing on Marshall's trade value since he doesn't really fit the age profile of when we should be contending next.

(of course this is all assuming tdk is coming)

I don’t think we would. The mail on our board earlier in the year was that we were having a crack at both DK’s, and when Sam re-signed it was reported in the media that we tried to get him as well. So I reckon we’d jump at the chance to get Sam.

I’d much rather him than Aleer, especially given his extra height.

With Howard’s body seemingly cooked, we could really do with another 200cm type back there.

Caminiti being our tallest back there (at 196cm) for the foreseeable future isn’t ideal.

If Sam looked at the offer you gave him and then signed for us, then he kind of already decided

Agree. I’m not suggesting it will happen, just that I think we’d be all for it, if it was an option. As long as we weren’t too far down the Aleer path.

It probably looks good for us on paper as we need a ruck and will have a headache finding space for Kolo in the backline next season with O’Sullivan emerging.

But I think SDK is one of the least likely to leave having signed a new contract and looking settled.

I just dont think in his current down form that you would chase him that hard and I doubt we would want to trade him for Marshall anyway. It's kinda one of those ones where neither side would do it.

Someone explain to me why St.Kilda are chasing TDK when Marshall is the better player and TDK being no certainty to be better than him in the future.

Not to mention shelling out 1.8 million for a ruckman just isn't worth it. Richmond won multiple premierships with Nankervis, Hawthorn with McEvoy, Collingwood with Cameron and most recently, Brisbane with Fort. Gawn would be the only genuine superstar ruck to have won a premiership in recent times.
