Recommitted Rowan Marshall [OOC 2027] - Requested Trade to Geelong, didn't get done

That’s why I said first this year and future 2nd from the very beginning right back up here.
They won’t trade future first. See, I just saved you all from listening to ads for hours on end on Trade radio
I think you are massively underestimating the situation, rightly or wrongly st kilda is obviously looking to make a major statement this off season it would not surprise me at all if part of it is making a statement and keeping Marshall unless we get offered a deal that is very favourable for us.

Would be some risky list management to say the least the chances of Stanley and blics staying on the park all season would be unlikely if they both went down you would be in all sorts I know people say you don’t need quality rucks to win premierships but I actually thought it hurt you quite a bit in this years grand final and I don’t see how one future first is being held to ransom or massive overs ,
Blicavs played very well as a ruckman in two finals. If anything Scott stuffed up by bringing Stanley back.

SDK has played ruck and we will have Kolo available to cover him in defence.

Neale can chop out.

Conway we have to wait and see if he can get his body right.

It's not exactly like it's Marshall or bust. So why overpay?

We just made a GF with a very good defence.

That doesn't mean we're going to turn down Sam Taylor or Harris Andrews' to replace Jake Kolodjashnij if they approached our management about it.

The club would love Marshall, as would the supporters. He'd be more than handy.

Not much is going to change if it doesn't happen though. The club will move on, and probably contend again next year regardless, like they've done for 20 years.

We're talking about Chris Scott here. He doesn't rate the ruck position at all.

"Desperate" isn't the right word. "Nice to have" would better fit his thoughts on the matter.
Getting flogged in grand finals can scar clubs moving forward look at Sydney, I don’t think you’re club will be as relaxed heading into next season as you might think

We don’t immediately need a ruckman we won our Qualifying and Prelim Final playing with Blicavs and SDK 😂
According to just about every experts assessment of your team post Grand Final it is exactly what you need🤣

We want Ro to stay, it’s been made clear to him. Cats have convinced him of a better future, then you gotta pay up. This years first rounder is gonna push back to in the 20’s. It’s gonna be SDK or Dempsey player swap OR a Future 1st if they won’t come, to get this done. You can dream all you like we take this years first. We are pushing in 2026/2027, not waiting on development of another 18yo in a talent weak draft

Confused why Geelong fans think a single F1 is unreasonable?

He’s a top 5-7 ruck contracted for 2 more years

Saints would gladly keep him, Geelong have no real leverage… what am I missing?
I don't. I'm happy to give up this year's R1 pick for RoMa. I'd package it up with a R3 for Steele.

Can’t see the Saints keeping Marshall on a big contract to be an unhappy 20 goal FF because they want an F1 instead of this year’s first. They’ll take this year’s first and maybe a sweetener if they hold out. It’s not quite a salary dump but he’s obviously surplus since they signed TDK and doesn’t want to be there. It’ll get done.

He's at the end of a front weighted contract.

Which means the savings in our cap are not a factor and you can argue we've prepaid for the next two years and world rightly want a return for that.

1st round pick and a player imo.

You do realise this is the second time Rowan has asked out…
You planning on sitting him in the VFL for those two years? 😂
This argument always intrigues me.

Players get match payments that are not negligible in their contracts- and that's before other incentives such as b and f finishing positions.

Which means most players won't want to sit in the twos.

Also Roma having asked out before and still delivering a good level of footy if anything should encourage the saints that holding onto him isn't a risky move.

It’s not prepaying for future years so much as it’s overpaying for current years to save cap room for the future. Clubs bear the risk when skewing a salary toward the front or back end of a contract.

This year’s first and a fringe player like Stevens may happen.

Sure. They bear some risk such as injury.

But the contract means they dont bear the risk of them playing somewhere else without the ability to recoup that investment.

Not sure he is top 5-7.

Gawn, Xerri, Grundy, Jackson, Meek, Witts, English, Cameron, TDK.

A 1st rounder is plenty for a mid tier ruck.

A first in next year's draft maybe. Clubs know there is little value in a late first this year.

It will end up in the mid 20's in a weak draft. I'll be very surprised if it's not more than that.

Enjoy the doom & gloom dude
Lol

Your assuming because you’ve added a flashy TDK (who can’t play forward & halves the ruck) but you’ve lost Marshall( who can play both), added SOS who averages 12 games year, Ryan who averages less & some other spud, that the sainters will miraculously bound up the ladder?

On the occasion TDK does tap the ball, what midfield will their be in the other end?

You’re in the doom & gloom with the rest of us ol’ sport.

Its’s just cost you $4.5m/ year for the luxury :).

Add the extra $1.5m your paying NWM.

Yeeouch!

I'd say he is safely amongst that group of rucks. Gawn aside, Marshall at the very least holds his own against everyone else more often than not.

Marshall's tap work is poor but his ground level stuff, marking prowess and ability to play forward is firmly ahead of most players you've listed there.

He is easily worth a decent 1st rounder at the very least, particularly whilst under contract.

I’m hearing we are pretty solid on it being next years first much better draft. Will Geelong come to the party
Maybe they will, but if I know anything about Chris Scott he won't value Marshall above holding onto picks for the 30% chance of a decent mid coming in and just rucking SDK.
