Marshall is exactly the type English would thrive with. They play the same way and could interchange between ruck, forward and rolling coverage in the back half.

We have space for a late 20’s tall with Bruce being 30 years old when he returns and Martin being 67 years old as our 2nd ruck.

He’d be crazy to leave StKilda. I think he’ll stay there. They’re looking solid and will be up there for the next few years. Geelong would love to have him… he’d be our number 1 choice, but we are in decline. Turning 27, country Vic lad, a position we desperately need filled. Would provide us an excellent ruck option for 4-5 years whilst developing Conway (who will be our future number 1 ruck).

I agree I am stoked he has re upped but 5 years for a player a Ruckman is a long time

Don’t know about that, most ruckmen seem to hit their peak later in their careers.

Anyway, good to see him in no man’s land for the next 5 years.

Probably the same deal Tim English signs in two years time (whether its for us that remains to be seen). Feel like Marshall hasn't hit the heights of 2020 the last year and a bit, I know he was banged up last year but from what I have seen he needs to be playing 80/20 ruck-forward to really impact games, you would think from next year that will be the case.

I think he’s been playing injured for the last two years (had a plantar fascia injury in the 2021 preseason and then ruptured it in his first game, and played the year out with that, and this year he’s been hobbling around, and even Ryder spoke about how he gave him words of encouragement given the fact he was playing injured), so we’d want to get his body right some time soon.

He played 20 games one season then backed it up playing 19 the next. 39 games in a 2 season period says he was best 22 when fit.

Saying that he is a solid Ruck. I personally would of taken the 2 year deal to go on free agency record.

But since the saints threw 5 years at him and Marshall signed means 2 things.

1. Saints rate him highly and they don't want to lose him

2. Saints have seen their ruck stocks. Yep he is in his prime. Ryder is nearly done the others are either young or not good enough

Yeah he’ll be a big priority signing. Especially with Ryder likely to be in his final season.

One thing that may give other clubs a chance tho is if they’re getting him to play ruck full time and we go after a no.1 ruck from another club and it seems clear that we intend to keep him playing more forward/ruck.

His best season was definitely the one where he played no.1 ruck and came 2nd in the B&F. At 23yo. Had hardly played or trained in the ruck in his two seasons prior to that one, because we had Hickey, Longer, Holmes and Pierce on the list.

At one point you had Ryan Abbott on your ruck stocks... In 2020
