Senior Rowan Marshall

Best game back from Roma, aka The Prospect, aka The Mayor of Portland, aka The Big Grin (only be me), aka Happy McHappyface (once again only by me)

Unfortunately the Marshall/Ryder combination, although once again potent, was not enough to drag the wasteful Saints across the line.

But excellent game big fella and great to see you hit the scoreboard 😃👍🏻

A couple of games to catch up on.

Firstly the very disappointing game against Carlton at Marvel. With Ryder out Paul Hunter came in. Carlton then lost their only real ruckman (an inexperienced ruckkid really) however their makeshift tappers and their mids managed to still run all over us.

Rowan did pretty well nonetheless:

Then last Saturday night the Saints managed to completely blitz the more fancied Swans at Marvel. With Ryder still unavailable and Hunter still uninspiring the Saints decided to go with just Marshall with some help from King, Sharman, Membrey, Joyce or anyone else in the area. Rowan was great and just continues to get better after his injury:

Well that's the season done for Rowan, the Saints and for all of us.

2021 turned out to be a real mixed bag for the boy from Portland. Injury to himself and to his ruck partner Paddy Ryder meant that they were only able to use their joint talents on a minority of occasions. That and the overall inconsistent form of the injury ravaged side made it a year to well and truly forget.

However there were enough occasions throughout the year to remind us, if indeed we needed any reminding, that the big Marshall is an extremely talented footballer and indeed one of the most talented and damaging on our list.

Let's hope it all hangs together for our #19, and the rest of the team, in 2022.

In the GWS era (since 2012), Marshall joined Brodie Grundy (2018 & 2019) and Stefan Martin (2014 & 2015) as the only players to average 20+ disposals and 20+ hit outs per game in a season.
