Opinion Rowe to CHB

I reckon Jamo is the fullback all day long.
Everitt just doesn't have the size or presence to be a legitimate KPP at either end of the ground.
Got to cobble something together out of Watto and Rowe. Doesn't matter which one makes it, but boy do we need one of 'em to.
I agree with the shoulders call. Holding big boys out and continually spoiling/marking overhead has already taken some toll. I'd prefer to see him CHB as he loves to go for a run. Running off his opponent should help save his shoulders too.

That's a bit 'definitive' considering he hasn't been tried there yet isn't it?

couple of preston supporters said he played a few games there last year and did well. said that it would take full 12 months to get over cancer treatment and will be much better this year

Personally, I can't see Rowey @ CHB. Just don't think he's mobile enough.
That said, nothing would make me happier if I'm wrong!!!
Hendo has to play forward. Last year if Waitey was well held it was left the Amigos to kick our goals & they're hot & cold at the best of times.

People are driving me mad with 'everitt to chb'. Have any on the people saying that EVER seen him play? He is a winger or flanker. No more. No less. He isn't even a third tall. He is the fourth defender or a winger.

As for Rowe. Chb is the only place he has a chance of carving out a career I think. Has the athletic attributes and reads the game ok. Would be more than happy if he is our backup CHB. Is very unlikely to make it as a forward on current evidence. Think his hardworking nature could suit a defensive post.

As for everitt again...just to emphasize...he is not a ****ing KPP.

Everitt: Played his best AFL games @ WBD as a mobile ruck IIRC but he's not a KPP.

A bit of versatility for Rowe won't hurt, it just depends how we fare with injuries which end he may needed, if/when he gets a chance. See how improved health/fitness goes for him as he presented well last year in the fwd role. Even though White is undersized, he, Giles, Watson & Rowe will be able to switch around in the VFL if playing there.

Hello Blue Boys - Looking foward to Rnd 2 this year

My best mates a carlton supporter and we go to every Carton/Richmond game and have been discussing this exact point for a while and i mentioned to him that Rowe would probably be better placed playing CHB but he doesnt believe that Rowe has the athleticism to play that role and would not work
So good to see this thread about the majority carlton view here.

Also how do you guys think the carlton defence will look this year against the Tigers in rnd2 with the likely tiger foward line looking like this

FF: King - Vickery - Hampson/Maric
HF: Knights- Riewoldt - Martin/Griffiths

Also a distinct possibility that Ben Griffiths may also play (unlikely i would think but has been mentioned around the trapa that Dimma is looking at how hawks played Gunston,Franklin,Roughead,Hale + Ruckman)

Vickery-200cm
Hampson/Maric-200+ cm
Riewoldt - 195cm
Griffiths -200cm

Hard to believe that Rowe would be played at CHB in the seniors when he has struggled to get a game at all in the past (health issues aside).

If he could magically turn into a gorilla-tamer then that would be sensational but I just can't see it ever happening meaning that Rowe will be back at Norwood in 2015.

He will be welcome back at Norwood so I will be happy either way

As much as I dont want you guys to suceed, I would suggest he takes a look at Carltons track record when playing a bunch of tall timber (our 3 ruck games in particular). Dimma probably shouldnt look at Hawthorn as a model, because none of your players are as good as either Roughy or Buddy in their power positions. Carlton is the model in your situation where you're playing 3-4 players who are ruckmen who can go forward, and not forwards who can spend a bit of time in the ruck.

I really hope you guys do play some really tall players who struggle to take a mark, because you dont have the crumbers to pick up the scraps when it gets punched away.

Realistically with that structure, you guys will fail tremendously. Griffiths will not play in the same forward line as Riewoldt, Vickery and Hampson/Maric (while the other is in the ruck). If Griffiths plays, then Riewoldt pushes up the field.

So with that in mind, Jamison takes Vickery, Watson/Henderson takes Griffiths, Hampson/Maric can be dealt with by the third man up (McInnes most likely), and Riewoldt up the field will be covered by Everitt.

You're dreaming if you think Vickery, Griffiths and Hampson could play in the one team, alongside Riewoldt.

Even playing Hampson, Vickery and Maric together will test rotations. Hampson as a third tall in attack didn't exactly work out - he's a ruckman first and foremost and needs significant game time on the ball. Having him as a decoy to Tyrone and Jack just makes your forward line too top heavy.

Geeeez lass.

Cant see Rowey at CHB either. We've got a pretty good set of talls , will be hard for him to get in for round one. I think he is a forward.

I'm up for him giving CHB a shot at senior level. Weither he can hold it down is another question. I believe between him and Watson someone needs to take the spot. Cameron Giles i can see being a future CHB/CHF swingman.

I see the Rowe idea as a good example of the importance of versatility - especially in a more limited rotations game.

Rowe played a few quarters last year in first as a defender - he did well. His strength will be his much improved fitness and greater versatility than McIness and White.

Henderson/Waite/Rowe are all capable of playing the fashionable 'swingman' role and maybe just maybe Watson can too, if Watson can play well down back - he will be given every opportunity to go forward on occasion depending on match situation.

Malthouse will make sure defence is as solid as it can be against every side Carlton plays but players will be moved around if they are good enough to manage change.

Walker and Yarran can play rebound role Yarran is suspect one on one deep in defence. Tuohey can rebound but I reckon will be trialled in the midfield this year as he has the tank, the creativity, speed and kick to do serious damage as a running midfielder who doesn't mind tackling ala Thomas. Tuohey and Thomas will be very very aggressive on ball as and as runners.

Warnock may well start as first ruck - but he doesn't have the motor to play a versatile role I suspect. A fit Kreuzer will give too much on ball to be ignored in that role. Murphy/Gibbs/McLean/Carrazzo/Curnow/Bell/Robinson and young Lucas/Graham/Cripps pushing for selection sees Carton ( finally) having enough depth to run games out for 4 quarters - which will be a huge difference IMHO between losing games which we led for three quarters and winning them by significant margins.

Across HF expect to see Menzel/Yarran/Waite/Henderson/Armfield ( a much much underated player ) keeping opposition defences guessing not allowing double teaming of Casboult/Kreuzer as FF with Jeffy and likely Yarran buzzing around for spoils with raw speed to burn.

2014 Carlton is 20% better than 2012/13 - I say again The Blues will surprise a lot of more fancied sides.

Rowe has been in the backline against North. Hasn't looked out of place and movement was pretty good.
