Polec tested poorly. His measureables didn't stack up with his style of play and how it would translate to AFL level. He was overdrafted by Brisbane.

Yes, but there were some on here advocating that West Coast pick him up.
He was a ten type pick that Brisbane slightly over-extended for.
But it was needs based, as it would've been if we'd picked him up.
Will have to wait and see how someone like Bontempelli tests.

Probably get snatched a pick or two before our pick.
Though maybe not.
There's always some good talent that slides into the 2nd round.
Who may slide this year?
Lennon's the one for me.

Hard to say. But if he would be available I would be very happy for west coast to take him.
Would also love Acres to slide to our 2nd pick after the year he has had but I think he will go in the first 20.

What do people think of Impey for 3rd round? I know he isn't midfielder but he can use his speed from the back-line as well as the forward line and has very good disposal.

I like Robertson with our 2nd round pick. I also hope we can get Ben Sokol with a later pick.

Sokol is well down the list, good footballer sub par athlete. I do wonder if he could translate into a Fasolo like player and just compete really well at higher levels.

I haven't got Jonathan Marsh going inside the first two rounds. Went for the taller forward options eg: Boyd, McCarthy, Harvey and Conlon first along with Hourigan and mid sizer Reynolds first.

His that awkward KPF size like Reynolds and Hourigan and I'm not set on if he will become a tall forward or taller midfielder yet

I have a feeling a team will like the versatility of someone who could become either (or both).
Thus one or two teams will have him penciled in for the 2nd round.
Perhaps he could become the new Ryan O'Keefe.

The hype about Marsh reminds me of the hype around Clint Benjamin. I reckon the majority on BF overrate him. I've only seen him play twice but he was ordinary both times. What do people think of Lewis Taylor with first pick? He's small, but strong and aggressive so not a big deal IMO. Plus a shit load of ability.

Taylor is crazy consistent and gets a lot of clearances.
If his height was ignored he'd be certainly top 3.

Easily. He also has what we lack in most of our mids(apart from height). He's strong and balanced and very, very clean in tight and he has pace. He and Waterman in consecutive years would help solve our fumble and lack of creative class problems in close.

Averaging over 32 touches in the TAC Cup and 25 touches in the U18 Champs if he tests well there is no reason why he shouldn't be considered in the 4 - 8 range.

I see a lot of Ben Cousins in the way Taylor moves ..

There's some really good chances available at West Coast's 2nd rounder (assuming we don't trade it).
Marsh, Cripps, Salem, Kolodjashnij, Robertson, Hartung and Tsitas will all most likely fall in and around the late teens to early twenties.

I would take Acres first for our second rounder

Thinking back a few years ago.
I remember in 2010 a few WC posters were talking up Polec as an option for us to get.
WC ended up picking Gaff and Polec went the pick after to Brisbane.
Now Gaff was the uber-consistent 30+ touches a game player at TAC level.
Polec I recall was the 15 touch per game at U18 level but he did good things with most of his touches.
Not having seen much of Polec U18s but having seen a fair bit of Bontempelli at underage level I think they have similarities.
Certainly if WC picked up Bontempelli in the draft you'd want his progression to be a bit more natural than Polec's has been at Brisbane.
However, both seem to impact games while not needing ridiculous amounts of the ball (though Bontempelli has proven he can get a lot of the ball at times).
Salem is another one that when he gets 18 touches or so he can really cut a team up. Whilst discussing him at the ground with a Carlton poster on here he described him as similar to Paul Chapman in this way.
Is that the type of player we are after? An impact player?

Are you people kidding me, how quickly people who didn't watch forget. Polec was dominant in the SANFL against men. Wasn't as much of a gut runner as gaff, much more damaging kick over long distance as well as being more dynamic. Has been absolutely hobbled by injury. In a couple of his early games for the lions did some amazing things and has been buggered since. Great outside winger as a junior with a fair amount of mongrel as well. What could have been.

Big fan of Taylor as well. Both he and Sheed would make me happy with our first pick.

Marsh and Bontempelli however don't really excite me the way the do with some posters.

I am also worried we will overreach and draft Marsh. As for the rest of our picks, doubtless it will follow the usual pattern of rated player if he slides (often turns out well), or some guy not on the BF WC radar. Scary that some of the posters here would probably have a better strike rate with their mocks, or WC draft wants post 06 than the clubs record.

I think you misread my post. I'm certainly not having a go at Polec.
At the time I would've been perfectly happy for us to pick him up. He was excellent in SANFL.
It was exactly "what could have been" situation (though perhaps his body holds up for another chance).
Indeed, I consider Bontempelli in a similar vein. He'd be a good get for West Coast.
Doesn't have the disposal count of a Kelly or Taylor but I have seen a number of his games and he has just the skill set we need.
I'm not sure what you are so upset about in my post?

Should have replied to your other post, and other people posting as well that he was a reach. At the time he was going somewhere between 4-6 and TBH i rated him at number 3 in that draft after swallow and bennell. My apologies as i was also drunk at the time.

We seem to lack crumbing type forwards as well as speedy midfielders. Do people think that we might look for a crumber in this draft; if so who might be a good choice (assuming that we go for a midfielder with our first pick) ?

Jay Kennedy-Harris (though more lead-up than crumbing)
Clayton McCartney
Willy Rioli
Rhys McAlister
Charlie Cameron
Those were a few mentioned.
Though the midfield options are pretty deep this draft so you'd expect we'd go a 2nd midfield choice as most of the above (except JKH) will be available 3rd round.

Dwyane Wilson is a small quick winger in the stokes mould is good as a small forward we could stick him in the pocket and give him bursts on the wing. Has elite foot skill going into fwd 50 . May be around at 3 rd pick if we are lucky
