Hey people I am wanting to work in a bar/pub just wondering where the cheapest place to get your RSA and do the training at, look at a few sites all pretty pricey 300-450 in range. Just wonder if anyone knows anywhere cheaper.

I'm 21 just in case anyone needs to know.

RSA by itself is around $50-$80 depending on the place.

$60 at William Angliss for the RSA by itself or you can do a Coffee/Basic Bar with it for $350

My advice would be to get the RSA by itself and then try slinging your resume around and hope someone gives you a chance. If you're interested in bar work i can assume that you've spent a lot of time on the customers side of the bar and have at least a passing interest in products, techniques etc.

You'll surprise yourself by how much you would have picked up in the 3 years you've been legal and going out to bars. The extra $200 - $300 will get you a very very basic bit of info that you would pick up in the first half and hour of your first shift.

It just depends on whether you're comfortable (and find a employer who is comfortable) on being very inexperienced the first few shifts. You'll still be fresh the first couple even with the course, but if that gives you the confidence to do it then spend the cash.

As the previous poster said, definately just get rsa

Ive been working in pubs for 4 yrs (since i was 18) and its all on-the-job training.

You need some luck, but most places will interview you, and should you present yourself well, you should get the job no worries

The Hospitality industry is a great fun industry with flexible hours to work around other jobs or uni timetables. You get to meet heaps of nice people (providing they are not all intoxicated in your venue)
There is heaps of work in the industry. Just go and take your RSA certificate and resume and visit some areas where there are lots of bars and restaurants like brunswick st, st kilda, southbank, docklands etc. I did the RSA Course for $40 in the city near the vic market. the company was www.hospitalityonsite.com.au
the most important thing when you want to work in the hospitality industry is not experience...it is having a great attitude, and being flexible with the times you can work. good luck!
