I think people oon BigFooty and in media seriously under rate the experience factor. Thats one thing you can't buy and certainly something you can't replace. Come finals time I would rather have experienced players on my team than a bunch of youngsters who a re generally more of a risk in pressure games.

One thing that intruiges me is that everyone is raving about brisbane going for 4 in a row (and rightly so as they are the best side in the comp) despite the fact they have as many as 5 players over 30 and Michael Voss in serious doubt as far as playing out the season is concerned. Lions rely on majority of those players to bring their game week in week out with Lynch being one of them. Yet Crows have 3 or 4 players over 30 and rely less on them than Brisbane does on theirs. Somehow Crows are old and Brisbane aren't.
Difference is thier old farts are better than ours, hence their 3 in a row. Most are playing as good footy as they ever have but age is showing it's affects amoung our core group.

I don't know what we have done from last year to turn the Melbourne press against us.
There is another factor. We have barely put up so much as a whimper since Round 20 last year. That's three end of season rounds, two finals (remember, in one of those I'm not sure our opposition actually turned up) and four pre-season matches (in which we have rarely looked particularly good).

Not saying they are right or wrong, but I feel the players have much to prove in the first few weeks of the season. The fact is, if we continue the form we have shown since round 20 last year, we are stuffed.

WW, you must be Sabre's #1 fan! :p
They have got a good list, a mix of tall and smalls, and have largely been unheralded this year (probably because there from Perth).
With their homegames, if they get home finals, who knows...

Odds against Brisbane, and at this time, no other teams looks likely.

I'm quite mystified Stiffy. Adelaide are always reported as having an ageing list. A comment that is never applied to the other 15 teams.

Why can't we drink at the same fountain of everlasting youth that these other teams do!!

Well, you don't spend enough time wallowing pathetically at the bottom of the ladder and you never get top 5 draft picks.
