What is the player who gives away the free kick in the ruck contests doing wrong? It seems that the umpire just chooses who will get the free kick. None of the experts on the tv could work it out either.

Do you really think that the white maggots have a clue?
In footy terms the words consistency, common sense & umpires are mutually exclusive.

What probably is more confusing to players, crowd and commentators is the number of different possible free kicks that can be paid in a ruck contest. Here's the usual ones.

1. High contact.
2. Holding.
3. Push in the back.
3. Blocking (shepherding) while out of play.
4. Pushing while out of play.
5. Bumping while out of play.

There are no rules just interpretations, which is the problem all over the ground.

The rules need to be completely overhauled and given definition or nobody will ever have an idea of what is going on.

They completely rewrote the rules at the start of last year.
