Has Murdoch being played back a bit more for you guys this year?

I think Ruggles comes in at the expense of a taller type defender or Murdoch if hes been playing back? Kolo is probably the most likely to make way out of Lonergan, Henderson and H.Taylor

orrr

Henderson goes forward. Kolo, Harry T, Lonergan as tall backs. Ruggles in with Enright and Mackie as HBF/small defenders.

Kolo has been fine so far. Lowered his colours somewhat on the weekend but the beauty of him is his ability to play on smalls or talls.
The coach made a statement during the preseason that Lonergan and Enright would be managed throughout the year. It seems like it's definitely Lonergan's last year and he will probably be the one that rests up here and there.

Murdoch has been drifting down back but he's been predominantly playing on the wing. Not in the best of form. With Cockatoo available for selection, he may lose his spot this weekend.
I think the idea of kolo playing on smalls or talls is complete bs.

He can roll onto a small if someone is hitting the bench.
So he can pinch hit.
That's nice.

But he'd get opened up if he played around 70% on a small.

You seem one too big and that might be making you a tad slow from the back half i think that either addressed as dropping one or oving one forward and thats where Ruggles comes into the equation.

Whats happened to Bews?

Wouldn't mind seeing him come in for Lonergan. Slow ball movement out of the back line hurt us against GWS. Ruggles, from what I've seen in the VFL, is quite an attacking defender who loves pushing forward and could provide plenty of drive out of the back half. Despite his lack of experience, he's mature age and having played plenty of VFL footy in the Geelong system along with the couple of NAB challenge games, shouldn't take him long to find his feet.
The loss of Thurlow has meant the main movers out of the back line have been Mackie, Enright and a part time Guthrie, hopefully Ruggles can help us in this area.

I really don't understand the Lonergan bashing on here. He'd just about be first picked every week.

he's only ever played on smalls so far throughout his career in the AFL.
Ok then, give me the flip side.
Can you ever remember kolo coming over the top to spoil?

Like it or not, you are going to see him on smalls from time to time.

EDDIE Betts one week, a Jack Gunston-type the next.

That’s the mixed bag of opponents Jake Kolodjashnij is preparing to combat this year after revolutionising himself under the close eye of Matthew Scarlett during pre-season.

Not only has the 193cm defender stacked on upper body strength over the summer to compete against the power forwards, he has sharpened his agility and speed for roles against the opposition’s mosquito fleet.

The 20-year-old has spent more time on Steven Motlop and Nakia Cockatoo this pre-season than any of the key forwards and has clocked personal-best times in sprint testing.

“They’re good guys to practice on, really dashing, quick players, good front and square,” Kolodjashnij told the Geelong Advertiser after another gruelling session this week.

“I want to be pretty versatile, so I’m working on talls and smalls — that’s what (assistant coach) Scarlo has told me to do, so that’s what I’m focusing on.
Let's see how he goes. I'm not going to say he can't just because he's 193cm.

yeh I know but for the most part, he's only been playing on small to mid sized players.
This year for example, played on Sicily and Rioli didn't he?
Then spent most of the time on Stevie J on the weekend.
Pretty sure guthrie spent most of the game on Rioli. But kolo did spend part of the game on him. Would much prefer kolo on medium then a small.

No. We have seen him rotate onto a tall during marking contests in a pack situation but he's very good at staying with his direct opponent so you don't see him leave his man and come in for the spoil.
It's absolutely clear that kolo is accountable.
It's why I like him.

I just rather he spent about 15% on smaller guys so that he can develop his game working players out of the contest, coming in from the side, spoiling over the top, choosing to out mark. Etc etc.

Rather than worrying about a goal sneak.
Pick someone else to do that.

I know he can cover. And that's great.

I'm looking forward to his return. It seems like MC and some BF supporters think he has lost ground.

I think they'll rest either Enright or Mackie and give Ruggles a run. I think a few veterans will get the week off this week.

I'd be surprised to see Kolo dropped or any of the younger kids. More game time required for them.

Certainly no Lonergan bashing. It's more a structural change. We are too slow out of defense and with Brisbane's fairly weak forward line (now that I've said that, Walker will probably kick 6) we may be better served dropping a tall out to provide more run and carry. Lonergan is a great shutdown key defender but probably offers us the least as far as attack our of the back half. Harry, hendo & Kolo should be more than capable of nullifying Brisbane's talls.

Unless Ruggles comes in for Hendo who goes forward in place of Kersten.

Don't think anyone has the stupidity to 'bash' Lonergan. The reason people want him in and out of the side is because everyone here is scared of life without him.

It's a balacing act between getting Kolooup to scratch without compromising matches won and ladder position. Next season is the year Kolo must be ready because Domsy will be asked or willingly hang up the boots.

In that scenario I tip it'd be Lonners, not Hendo.

Hendo was picked up to replace Lonners, who's in his last year. They'll rotate him to steadily hand over the role to Hendo, so reckon it'd be Lonners out as the tall, if anyone.
