I think we should get a few rules going, not compulsory or anything, just for etiquitte purposes.
What does everyone else think, suggestions?

What I’d like to see
Post tips 5+ minutes before the jump
There’s no point in posting tips with 1 or 2 minutes to go.

Nominate Odds
Someone could simply name all the short priced favourites and land 5 coming across like a genius.
Reality is everything depends on the odds.
Someone might select ten 2/1 shots and get 4 winners
another might select ten 8/1 shots and get 2 right.
Who really gave the much better tips? The 2/10 or the 4/10?
Granted it’s hard to predict exact odds a day before the race, perhaps a ballpark number?

Strength of selection
Give an indication of how much you believe in your tip.
Again, someone may nominate ten selections, all at 5/1 for example and land 1 winner.
When in reality they had seven times the stake on the winning bet than any other.
Perhaps an /10 or /five stars, something like that.
Maximum rating would indicate a strong belief &/or larger scale bet.
Middle rating would indicate a middle sized bet etc, for example
Race 2 Rosehill Empire @ 3/1 to win (include rating)
And finally be clear, say you're backing it to win or place or whatever.
Not a big fan of wishy/washy half-hearted name dropping of favourites.

What does everyone think..maybe it's too much to ask?

Why?

If youve been here for a while, you have an idea of who knows what.
I would say that most posters know who tips faves etc.
IMO theres 2 types of racing punters here:

1.Those who basically bet on every race
2.Those who may have 0-2 selections for the day.

Both are valid, you do what works for you.
Personally I dont ask for tips & rarely give them.Very few harness punters here anyway.
I would hope that no-one relies on tips from Bigfooty to make a profit.
Happy to be involved in the odd "tipping comp" but thats about it.

Punters in gp 1 will be happy to post their tips,as is their right
Punters in gp 2 are less likely,as is their right

IMO there are more suitable sites for pure punting than Bigfooty.
For me,this is a site for discussion of all things racing, not just punting.

I dont bother with the odds or how much I'm betting when I post any of my selections. Because 99% of the time I come out even (ie I dont bet)

Why? It’s just a suggestion.
Again, didn’t I just explain why anyway?
This would just clear everything up so that everyone has a better indication of someone’s tips.
I don’t understand the point of the majority of your post, sorry.

Discussion of all things racing only hey, hmm sorry buddy it’s a punting forum which encompasses everything punting. It might be just that for you, fine. Some of us give tips here and if people want to talk about sport, footy, racing or whatever we’re entitled to.
It's not compulsary or anything people can give tips however they want.
Don't make more of it than what it is, it's a suggestion, common sense one from my point of view.

To be brutally honest there arent that many tips handed out on a day in day out basis, so really not much need is there... If you get a tip, you get a tip, whether its paying 50-1 or 2-1 why wouldnt you back it....

You honestly think that:
"all things racing, not just punting" actually means "only racing"

When people simply drop a name before a race, it really gives no weighting to selection, odds or any important factors.

It would just make things a little clearer if they clarified it somewhat.
No big deal.

Don't see why there needs to be any forum "rules for posting racing tips."

People can post their own tips, whenever they want. If they want to include stuff like odds and how much they put on it then that's their own business. Personally doesn't bother me at all.

Obviously they're suggestions, not rules.
I never implied they disclose how much they have on, See: Strength of selection.
