Why do we need Mick anyway?
For the first time in some time, our coaching brigade seem capable of taking us deep into the finals. Really have to hand it to Ratts for understanding where our weaknesses lie, and doing something to address it.

Surjan apparently not on the radar, and that my wires were crossed, as the club had a crack at him in last years trade period. I have heard though that we have had a little chat to Shaun Higgins management.
We'd wanna get him cheap. Looked a star two years back but he's struggling for impact now. Far too injury prone.

Not wrong there RE Higgins BIB, but that will definitely not go ahead I can assure you. Will cost too much, is seen as the next captain in waiting and very injury prone. Door shut case closed pretty quickly on that one.

I have heard that we are really into Sam Reid from the Swans. There is a suggestion that home is calling.

Certainly add my voice to the 'no need for Mick' chorus. With the addition of Brown and Richardson in particular I think the coaching staff are doing a fantastic job.

I guess that means we are into Sam Reid from the Dogs. :p

Forget Reid.

Develop our own.

Reid to my eye looks an elite KPF prospect, and is already performing very impressively at AFL level.

If we could swing the trade (which would be very difficult), why would we foresake an extremely talented youngster for the overly simplistic notion of 'developing our own'?

Our premiership window is open now, and whilst we are working out whether Mitchell and Casboult are going to make it as full-forwards, I would be fully supportive of bringing in a potentially gun forward.

TG, Collingwood were not afraid to get in Tarrant last year when they had sufficient KPD's. Or Krak for that matter with Dick and Davies in the back ground.

Good teams always top up wherever needed.

The difference between those players and Reid is that the latter is only 19 years old. The Collingwood pair were ready to come straight in and have an influence and came relatively cheaply.

That they came cheaply you are no doubt right. The Swans have proven to be both fair (Hall) and (unreasonable) ROK on the trade table, and one would think that with a promising KPF which they have a lack of, the latter would be more likely.

Having said that however, Reid would be in the current side no doubt.

Where would Reid fit in with Henderson, Waite and Kreuzer(ruck/forward) our current tall forwards?

Watson should be a better long term player, so we don't exactly need Reid to hold down CHB.

We have McCarthy too.

Reid would be too expensive.

Our hands and their hands might be tied with Buckley and Mitchell likely to cost a first or second round picks...The latter for Buckley...These picks can't be traded.

Unless we can get something from the Giants and ontrade that, then I doubt that Reid will ever be seen in Carlton colours.

Henderson is our only legitimate tall forward prospect that you mentioned there TG. Waite doesn't play like a KPF and Kreuzer will be a resting ruckman (a damn good one). Mitchell is injured at the moment so I would not be at all unhappy if we acquired Reid. Would happily part with our first rounder for him, given he is 19 years old and looks the goods if he fixes his goalkicking

Must admit I couldn't understand that one as we have several better of our own rather than chasing down Surjan.

I know he brings a few issues, but I'd love Higgins for us.
If fit I understand us being into him, but Collins may not be happy.

If the club sees itself one key position player away from a serious tilt at the premiership, then I've no doubt they'll go for it.
Waiting for Watson, Casboult, Mitchell or McCarthy to come on in the pre-season may be just a little bit of a stretch, and one not worth putting all your eggs into.
Right now Princes Park must be looking very appealing for players wanting out, and fortunately for us, we have the cattle to barter with.

Is that opinion, or influenced by some insider knowledge?

I feel that the club is increasingly underwhelmed with Lucas and his rather laconic nature.

If that deal was offered for Reid, Carlton would jump at it...

Far too early for any deals to be discussed. Carlton might be talking to his management but that would be about it...
