Something sourced is less of a rumour and more of a discussion point, so could potentially have its own thread.

I agree though that some recruiting rumours are more hypotheticals so could be moved.

I could see this as a legitament trade option and a good one for the club...
I like Russell, but Butcher would be fantastic for our set up. One more missing peice of the puzzle.

Would be a good deal for Carlton but why would Russell agree to this. He is under contract and in our best 22 and the club has played finals the last 3 years.

Port Adelaide on the other hand are in a world of pain, they have no money, no fans and are about to win the wooden spoon and will be at least 3 years before they play finals again.

First, as some have pointed out, why would Russell want to go to Port. And to trade him, a top 10 pick, and our first round pick is way over the odds on a player who has only played a handful of games. This is not Chris Judd we are talking about.
A swap of players, maybe or our first round pick but not both.

Good for PA if he does stay, though would have liked us to have a little look...

port see him as "the future" thats his nickname around the club and he provides a genuine excitement we havent seen in our dark years. he will bring fans to the game and he wont be traded unless he demands a trade and if he does then we will need more than that

This post explains why this trade won't happen.

From both clubs perspectives the trade is uneven. Carlton won't give up Russell AND a first rounder, it is too much. On the flipside, Port will hang on to Butcher with all they can and won't let him go voluntarily for anything but the exceptional

This. And will also be surprised if we aren't forced to use our first round pick on the, already committed to, Buckley. Whichever Scott coaches North (they look the same to me) already said on his Fox show that he would have no hesitation forcing a club to use it's highest possible pick on a father/son.

Butcher has played how many good games? Experts have said he has obvious flaws other than his kicking. And he is a Port player and as we have learnt from Melb do we want to accept discards from a bottom team?
