I was talking to a bloke at a party recently who is involved in some way with the Hampton Hammers and from what I can gather they will very quickly become a very good football club.
As I understand it, after just one year of a new administration, they have turned a significant financial loss, into a major profit, in just one season. They have started a junior program which culminated in a Colts Grand Final appearance as well as maintaining a strong link with a local junior football club, which will feed their Colts program in future years and as a result, have local people (parents included) committing to many of the required volunteer positions for next year. Their crappy old ground is to be resurfaced and levelled off for next season and by then will be the equal or better of any in the competition and they have just hired a new coach after intrerviewing many high profile candidates, and the new guy is from all accounts of excellent pedigree and are now embarking on an enourmous player recruiting drive. Many others will return to the club as well, and many of theri Colts GF side are to be available to play senior football in 2009 meaning that they will quickly be up and around. I have also heard elsewhere that their plans go well beyond winning a few games in 2009, but include SFL domination in future years the likes of which has not been seen before! From what I can gather they are a famous and proud old club who have awoken and will be difficult to stop once up and running.
Come on House, I've been reading your posts for a long time now, why so quiet on your beloved Hammers???What's going on down there? Is any of this true? Why are these guys suddelnly going so well when so many of their close neighbors are struggling in so many ways? What's the big secret? Can anyone shed any light on this club or it's administration?

Naughty Boy, you make things sound so positive.....who was it that told you so much about our club?
I am not really permitted to say too much, but I am aware that recruiting is the big push for 2009. Look like things are going really well for us for a change. Are we able to recruit you as a supporter for next year?

Sorry my friend, I don't really belong to any footy club any more, but love to watch park footy. I think it is great what you guys have done to turn things around so quickly at your club.
Good luck with it and I hope you continue to recruit more good quality people.
I will speak to this fellow I met recently again soon and try to get more information of the ressurection of The Hammers. From what I can see and hear it looks like a great story.:)

I hope this is not taken the wrong way buy those down at the hammers but you do have to hit rock bottom before you can turn things around.

They hit the rock this year and it's greta to see them starting to turn it around. Never good to see a club struggle and not be able to field two sides every week.

Good luck to House and the club in 09 and years to come.

I'd even rather watch the Super Rules comp than Div 3 rubbish any day! Actually, they'd probably smash any Div 3 team! Who else thinks all this "Hammers" talk is rubbish and it's just one person with multiple big footy user accounts talking up a dying club. It's not half obvious. Who's the new coach, and what's his previous coaching experience?

Yeah, no worries House, just don't give me any tips for the races.

Just like the above post from this time last year

When your on the bottom of the Sh*t heap the only way for the cub is up, so keep pumping those tyres old boy.

Wake us up when you actually start being competitive in the competition
How long did Bennett last before getting out of the dump - when Hampton VAFA players see the dumpy grounds that are in Div 2 SFL, they will probably jump ship?.

Also wouldn't get excited about any Rover players, the ones that would go across are ones that are too scared of B Grade Ammo footy and look for the easy kick and low commitment. Same old merry-go-round as in '08 House when you posted this one:

Also, if Allen is a very good coach one in which your current committee appointed then why did you finish on the bottom of the ladder. If its about not having the players then why get rid of him?.

How I have laughed over the Hammer talk.... I didn't realise that they were in Division 3 - I loved how some tosser said they would dominate the competition like no team before.... hahahaha what are they aiming to become the next Parkmore??? Wow that is really impressive!!

North of the River- I believe the mighty Hammers are in divsion 3- not 2.

Agree with the comment about the players joining the club- I wouldn't hold my breath on any players who join from higher divisions to play at such a shit standard. I think it'll say alot about those guys characters and I don't think I'd want them representing me on the footy field

Very keen post for October there Mr Hampton?
Going so well, they finished on the bottom & not played a game since.. let's wait til the season commences before getting to carried away.

Don't get me wrong I am all for the Hammers being a succesful club, and I also hear they have turned a few off field issues around/ U18's is also a great achievement.

Having witnessed the same scenario first hand it takes a lot of work to reverse the trend, all im saying is there is a way to go yet..

I wish Ian & his committee all the best:thumbsu:

League to back Dandenong Demons
sportAustralian Rules/Footy27 Oct 08 @ 10:15am by Paul Amy
THE Southern Football League says it will “bend over backwards” to ensure the survival of Dandenong Demons Football Club.

SFL general manager Wayne Holdsworth confirmed the club had a substantial debt and without league support would be unable to see in the 2009 season.

“People who care about the Dandenong Demons really need to come together and see what they can do to get them through,” Holdsworth said last Thursday.

“It’s time for action. We’ll do as much as we can. The board has given me the authority to do that and we’ll bend over backwards because we don’t want to lose a football club. Our hands-on support is crucial to them.

“But without committed people from their end it’s hard to see them going on. There has to be a point in time where they help themselves.”

It’s believed the Demons failed to pay their SFL affiliation and umpires fees this year.

Compounding their financial difficulties, they did pay a handful of recruits. But Dandenong won only four senior games.

The SFL has devised a survival package for the Dandenong Demons. It includes:

* wiping off some of the debt to the league and overseeing the club’s finances.

* helping form a new committee.

* assisting with coaching appointments.

Dandenong Demons president Steve Limnyo has said the club will close its doors unless it relocates to Shepley Oval.

He said it would generate much-needed sponsorship dollars from businesses that in the past did not want to be associated with Dandenong West or the Dandenong Demons.

But Holdsworth said it was clear Greater Dandenong Council would not be endorsing such a move.

“They’ve got to forget about Shepley and focus on what needs to be done to get them into the 2009 season,” he said.

“That has to be the number one priority. There should be no expectation that the club will be going to Shepley Oval.”

Holdsworth said the club could not operate as a “one-man band” and needed at least a president, secretary, treasurer and football manager.

Illness to stalwart official Bev White weakened the club’s off-field team.

SFL director Steve Barnes said on Sunday: “It is our desire to have the Dandenong Demons continue, but they are at a critical stage of their existence.

“They need to come forward with the necessary administrative infrastructure and a business plan to convince the board that they are viable in the long-term.”

Barnes said he believed there was great marketing potential with a club so clearly associated with the vibrant City of Greater Dandenong.

Limnyo could not be contacted for comment.

Congrats on the signings of Grose and White from Mordi will be good pick-ups.

Geez Whitey is racking up the clubs at a rate of knots. Clayton, Mt Eliza, Mordi and now Hampton (may have missed a few more too). Not bad for a bloke who wouldn't be older than 24!

why did they or why were they even allowed to pay players but not fees? who is worth paying on their list anyway?
