What could happen is something along the lines of Collingwood saying we want him via Melbourne but then Melb on trading him so that it looked like Collingwood sending both players to Melbourne for #4 and then Melbourne on trade Wellingham for Stevens and #18.;

Collingwood
Gain: # 4
Lose: Dawes & Wellingham

Melbourne
Gain: Dawes & 18
Lose: # 4

WCE
Gain: Wellingham
Lose: 18.

Might have to be trued up with a fringe player and or few later picks (by Collingwood) or trading some selections etc but that could be something that works for everyone. I reckon K.Stevens might be used in all that.
Sounds pretty good to me. Still not sure why Melbourne would rate Dawes that highly to do a trade like that, but I wouldn't complain.

I think Dawes is pretty keen on him and vica versa from what I hear. I think Collingwood will want that #13 pick if its a solo deal and may trade some back end picks but if you think Gunston went for #24 with a few picks traded at back end I think its most likely. Cant see Collingwood letting him go for a 2nd round as think they would definately hold him.

Trade Radio@traderadio
. @MelbourneFC list manager Tim Harrington says it's unlikely the Demons will use an early pick for Dawes

thanks now dont post any bullshit facebook rumours on here because people that run those facebook sites are full of shit

The thread is called "Rumours" and therefore, I will post whatever the f@#$ I want. Cheers.

Why would Wellingham want to move to another Melbourne based team? It is my understanding that he wants to go home, else he would be resigning with Collingwood. Has he said anything the contrary? I don't see one good reason why he would leave if faced with being forced to stay in Melbourne.

Money $$$$. Pies apparently offering $300k - Dees offering $450 which is a substantial offering over 3 years. Mitch Clarke was wanting to go to Freo last year only to find the money trail to Melb.

Melbourne cannot on trade Weller's, unless the rules have changed?

I'd bite their hand off for pick 13 in a straight swap. I'm surprised any team is willing to offer anything higher than a 3rd rounder for him. You can get a star at pick 13, which is something Dawes will never be.

to be fair i just heard that and he said that first and then followed it up by saying that their preference was still to do the both but if not they were still keen on Dawes (who was also keen on them) and that they hadnt yet talked about a deal for Dawes as yet bc they need to get him committed and then present something that will satisfy Collingwood. He also said that he knows they will have to satisfy Collingwood as he is contracted.

My view. It will be #13 or Collingwood will say it isnt enough as dont think #26 is reasonable given last year we saw;

Hawks got Gunston for #24 (some later picks swapped but not material)
Port got Brent Renouf for #33
Adelaide got Tom Lynch for #37 for Tom Lynch
Lions got Jordan Lisle for # 29

I would argue Dawes is in front of each of those so whilst #13 might be a bit overs it will certainly need to be in the 15-18 range and given #13 is so close think it will do it with some later picks swapped.

We could trade Wellingham for #18, then send that and Dawes to Melbourne for #4 though.

In my opinion, Melbourne would be getting reamed!!

So start a thread called 'Bullshit' and run with it

I didn't start the thread....
However, every rumour is a rumour until it's proven otherwise.

I could bullshit on every single thing written in here but that's not the point of the thread is it.

Given some of the trades that happened last year (posted above) I think you are massively underselling Dawes value.

Wouldn't it be:

Collingwood
Gain: # 4
Lose: Dawes & Wellingham

Melbourne
Gain: Dawes, Stevens & 17
Lose: # 4

WCE
Gain: Wellingham
Lose: 17 and Stevens

But Harrington stated quite clearly Melbourne would not give up a high pick alone for Dawes, he'd have to be bundled with Wellingham. Dawes alone won't land 13. And given Melbourne are using their 2nd round on Viney, the only show for us to get value for Dawes is to include Wellingham.

What happens if Dees add a Player into the Deal

Don't WC have pick 17 in the draft?

I think Melbourne are getting screwed hard here. No way will they accept dropping out of the top 10 for Dawes.

a guy just called in and said we are tring to get a deal done for melb for pick 4 which we would ontrade to sydney for sam reid and then they would give that pick to adelaide. apparently this caller has made some correct call previously...not going to happen but i dnt mind wishful thinking.

called in on SEN..

I don't think I am. It's not all about current or past achievements, but also about the future. Most of the trades you mentioned, the players may not have achieved as much as Dawes, but IMO have more room for growth (or did at the time of the trade). Via both their age, and their attributes. We know what Dawes is, and we know what he isn't. If I'm a club trading for him, I'm not buying high on what Dawes is going to be. I don't see the growth potential there, and what he is now is a player with some terrible attributes for his position. A massive upturn in his form is still highly likely to result in anything resembling a star level player.

I think teams are more likely to give up decent picks for a relatively unknown player if they feel there is a decent ceiling to dream on. Despite Dawes' accomplishments (Premiership player, decent year in 2010) that doesn't really apply to him. Obviously it looks like Melbourne may disagree with that, which would be good for us. If we get anything better than a 3rd rounder I'd pretty much consider it a steal.
