the only dominant ruckman are the big bodied ones, we seem to go for the string beansfor some reason. fraser, richards, wood etc
i must admit fraser was really good in his first 3 years and i thought we had a potential champ on our hands. but that was snuffed out fairly quickly
Yeah when the coach forces you into first ruck duties while you are still a kid filling out your body properly and refuses to draft any backup ruckmen to share the load its bound to burn you out quick.

to be fair, could we of known josh fraser was always going to be a string bean when we recruited him?

Pretty sure all the premature rucking lead to his balding too. Give me a break. He just recently retired at 30+. His body was fine.

You gotta be kidding he has been a hack for the last few years, forcing a kid to do a he man's job is just plain stupidity and no amount of history revision can change the facts.

Just looking at that early Roberton highlight reel and the latter one, does look pretty slow and as Loki says has a loopy kick. There's no urgency about his play and especially his kicking which looks a little dinky for my liking. Can see him getting mown down running out of defence like that.

A third pick I guess isn't terrible, but I've definitely got tempered expectations.

Hine is a good recruiter but not great. I would have Wells and Randell ahead of him clearly. Rapt that we have Rendell on board now and listening to recruiters talk it seems this draft will be a weak draft. Wouldn't mind if we traded our 1st rounders as long as we don't trade both of them for Caddy.

Ok not going to get into an argument for this blasphemy but Hines statistics are awesome. Remember too he was hindered by MM s controls ( look what he is doing for Carlscum during the trade period, same old MM - his hand was forced on Ball and Jolly). I remember our bad recruiting prior to Hine. This draft is supposed to be a super draft. Don't listen to what Hine says...he is more than likely saying stuff to coerce others away from his potential recruits. He may also be downplaying the 20 plus picks that might come into play for Dawes. Don't worry he WANTS draft picks this year. I am so pleased Collingwood has been pro active in recognizing last season needed improvement despite excuses. This is an exciting trade period because of Hine getting first round pick(s) AND the tremendous insight Rendell brings.

"In Hine we trust"

Ok - So here's the rumour I heard.

Good source at the club mentioned to me at the Copeland night that he believes Dawes will go. This goes to the realisation that they thought he could perform that role, but his 2011 & 2012 season have definitely changed their opinion of what he is capable of. So they are quite happy to move him on provided they get adequate compensation.

The clincher is the next trade - "apparently" Collingwood are looking to trade Dawes to Melbourne. They have put up Dawes PLUS pick 17 in an attempt to get pick 5 from Melbourne.

We have also been in dealings with Adelaide where the pick 5 will just about guarantee that one Mr Tippett becomes a magpie. Dependant on convincing Tippett that the Westpac Centre is the right place for him to call home. This second bit of trade information has come from a former player. I honestly do not know if he still has ties or information links at the club.

Make of it what you will!
Even if Melbourne did stupidly give up pick 4 for Dawes, we would be just as stupid to trade it for Tippett. He could be out of the game in two years.

I guess the question is would you trade pick 4 for 2 premiership cups.

That was a video from, what, 2009? A lot can change in that time. He was a drink of water then too, so with strengthening he could have gotten more power into his kicking. Still, I think the tagger idea has merit.

It's pretty unfair to judge a player off a highlights video on Youtube

That's why I mentioned nothing much changed from 2009 highlights and the more recent Dockers highlights video. My original, albeit scant, impression of Roberton from tv this season was that he actually looked pretty good. The Docker highlight video though deflated me to an extent. Yes, it's a highlight video, but the highs weren't exactly high.

So you expect an Gazza from a 3rd rnd pick spicey??

Srsly m8 he is a role player that will give us depth, good speed and a penetrating kick - with baggage lol.

Some Folk on the doggies board seems to think dawes is being traded there this afternoon.

i suggest some of you good read it.
Unfortunately I have heard this too from someone close at the club, don't know about this afternoon but Dawes has agreed to go there and a trade is being worked on. We want a first rounder but they are not so keen and want to give up a 2nd and swap of third round pick which is then likely to be traded to Fremantle for Roberton. We are going to regret this trade if it happens.

I guess it was a waste putting number 31 on my guernsey. So shattard:(. I hope he kills it there.

You would be mistaken if you think Tippett coming in guarantees a Premiership Cup. Especially when he misses half a season with a concussion. Seen Justin Koschitzke lately? But even with him, our problem against the best teams was much more far reaching than simply a second quality key forward.

I heard the Dogs offered 2 40+ picks and we told them we wanted pick 21, seems fair considering he's contracted, probably not worth that but it wouldn't be that far off the mark.

Really........Looking back at the board from the 2nd half of the season and all the blame was laid with a 2nd quality fwd and for that matter our premium #1 forward.

Seems so many people on here have very short memories and run from 1 event to the other. All the talk leading up to trade week and FA was about finding another player to play that Leroy Brown role we so desperately needed to take pressure of Jolly and then all of a sudden we needed a utility like Goddard because he was available and then Clinton Young became the saviour of our future and now Roberton is going to become that missing link......Pettered, Martin, Gysberts, Monfries, Stevenson, blah, blah, blah, blah.......seriously some shit names being branded around with posters looking to fill a void so we can just trade someone for the sake of trading someone........Worst then my materialistic 5 year old!

WE ARE NOT BROKEN.......WE JUST NEED TO CONCENTRATE ON AREAS OF OUR GAME, STRUCTURE AND SKILLS TO REMAIN IN OUR PREMIERSHIP WINDOW.

The shit being branded around about Tippett being a major risk because of concussion to me is nonsense....FFS, do you think our medical staff would overlook something like this. If he gets the OK from meds and we can manage a trade we would be crazy not to look at him in our current situation. To me this is pie in the sky like alot of the other rubbish being branded around.
