We don't have to trade for him, but it's not against the rules and if it offers a strategic advantage we willHow can we trade for him when he is unresticted?

It could be as simple as getting Hawthorn to back off from trying to resign him because they figure they'll lose in any compensation deal from the AFL and our 2nd rounder is more appealing than what they'll getI'm not seeing the advantage for us in giving up a pick for Young. How would Hawks do us a favour for doing this for them? We haven't lost anyone to FA so wont lose compo by taking Young as FA. Don't know what else we wouldneed from Hawthorn this trade period.

If he's an UFA as people have suggested, he can just leave. He may be trying to use us to push his price up, that's quite possible. Don't know that Hawks have heaps of cash sploshing around after acquiring Lake and being set to sign-up their own Cloke this year as Franklin comes out of contract.
Meh, worst case scenario Hawks pay more and retain him. Not an absolute requirement for the Pies.
We are giving up nothing by giving them a 2nd rounder to stop them trying to resign him if that's the strategyLike others, I am against giving up any picks given his free agency status. We either get him for nothing or give up. He does not possess the silky foot skills that we are really after so can see no point in paying in the form of a draft pick.
Why would Warnock be touring Westpac centre? Wood for Warnock, Dawes for Warnock? You've got to love the rumours flying around the media.
lost cause body is stuffed.what about Gumbleton what are people's thought on him?

Where did Hine say this? I only recall him saying along the lines of "we rated Stewart in the 50's and we thought we'd be out of the draft by then". I haven't seen any indication we're prepared to throw away pick #39-odd for nothing, and to one of our main competitors no less.We are giving up nothing by giving them a 2nd rounder to stop them trying to resign him if that's the strategy
Hine has made it clear there is nothing after picks 25/30 so he wont use a 2nd rounder 39 if we have 17,18 and 20/21.. Any 2nd or 3rd round picks we have we'll try and trade for a player like a Robertson or a Pederson
A back up ruck would be handy, if Jolly goes down with a long termer we're pretty much screwed, Wood is ok to fill in when Jolly needs a rest but he cant be relied upon as a permanent ruck at this stage.
That's no good jmac, he'd probably walk into itHe cannot be relied upon at ANY stage. The guy needs to be shown the door.

Why are the media constantly suggesting we will trade a pick for young? my god
Too bad there aren't any that are interested in him.Barrett reckons that Dawes wants to go to a finals contending team.
