The longer it takes the less likely he is to leave in my opinion.

Think this lad is just holding out for longer contract or more money at his current club and other interested parties are just being used as leverage

contract negotiations can take time and in reality are really no indication which way his leaning, some players who put it off for ages end up leaving (ablett) or some just wanted to stay on the best deal (cloke).

Terry Wallace said that David Rodan would be a good fit for the Pies. I agree with him and would love to have Rodan at the Pies. Maybe he could play the super sub role.

I would do it too and can sign him as a Free-Agent too

Nothing will happen clubs will not trade top talent for draft picks which can be boom or bust.

Yea, picks 2, 3, 12 and 13 wouldn't attract any interest. Wouldn't be at all interested if I was Doggies or Saints.

They'll get plenty of sniffs. GWS know they're just going to have to unload a bunch in the next few years along with GCS.

Yeah Yeah i know i know its facebook... but since theres been no rumours all day.... This is for you Dave!!

CLINTON YOUNG -
"There was a rumor doing the rounds that Clinton Young had made a decision on his playing future over the weekend, and has alerted the Hawks on what his plans are.

Again, this is only a rumor, Clinton Young has spoken again in private with Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley, as a "reassurance" and it's understood that Collingwood is set to be his destination club.

Despite Port Adelaide, Brisbane and Essendon also making late plays with the unrestricted free agent, Young has only met with Collingwood at this point.

It's understood that Young is seeking out a new club because he wants increased responsibility and more midfield time, something that Collingwood can offer, given Wellingham's exit form the club."

and again

CHRIS DAWES -
Talks were far from formal today, with Geoff Walsh of the pies stating that Collingwood "do not have to trade" Chris Dawes, given he is contracted for another 2 years.

The sticking point to this negotiation is that Dawes feels threatened by the Likes of Lynch, Paine and Witts and feels as though his career could be jeprodised by the trio.

It's alleged that Collingwood team mates of Dawes have made contact with him, urging him to reconsider, and to put in a big preseason and demand the position.

GWS need key defenders. They would be looking for someone to pair with Davis. Key forward isn't really a need for them, having Patton and Cameron, with Folau and Setanta as backups (I don't think GWS are ready to give up on the Folau experiment). Which means Dawes would not carry anywhere near the same value to them as he does the Demons. Unless we are willing to trade a Nathan Brown or Lachlan Keefe, I don't see us getting any of those picks.

18 and Dawes for 13 probably isn't quite enough of an upgrade to warrant doing over a straight swap of Dawes for pick 20 from Melbourne in any case. Goldsack may be someone they might look at and be willing to downgrade the pick 13 to 18 for. Outside that I don't see who else they would want that we would let leave. They are stacked with mids.

This worries me in that it would appear that Dawes has lost all confidence and is threatened by youth. Good for us as it shows that Paine and Witts are developing into quality players. If Dawes isn't prepared to train hard, improve his game and fight for his
Position then he can piss off. I was all for him staying but reading this makes me mad thinking he wants to take the easy road. Weak as piss if true and we don't need role models like this.

Work hard, play hard and be rewarded.

It makes me wonder if some players who experience a premiership so early in their careers may lose focus or motivation to continually drive to achieve this again.

I like Dawes but this shits me to read!

I think it's all posturing by the club. AFAIC he's been told by Buckley he's not required. The comments now released quite possibly originate from the club and are designed to raise his trade value. Sounds dodgy, but it's sound business IMO.

Other than the fact he's been released by one of the worst teams in the league, my understanding is he has some serious issues with his knees.

I doubt if Dawes was to get traded it would be done this week. It will be till late next week that a deal could possibly happen and by then Dave's head might explode, hopefully not though :D. If Dawes stays and we get Young, I am going to be a very happy man.

I think this is a good point.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if Walshy had a chat to Dawes' manager and said "Look, how about we make this Chris' idea. That way he gets to save face and it helps his negotiating position in the marketplace. It also helps our negotiating position in the marketplace, so it's a win all around. Whaddaya reckon?"

I also wouldn't be surprised if Collingwood has managed the situation in a way where, they wanted Dawes to leave, but they've done it in a way that makes him think like it was his idea.

Pretty sure this friday is the deadline.... If no deal is done by 2pm this friday he will be wearing black and white

If I was Dawes and they did that to me, the last thing I would want is to do best whats for the club that is getting rid of me.

I just think in the meeting he had with the club and the club told him his game time would be limited and it would be best for him to seek a trade. As an outsider to me it seems that the club is very keen on trading Dawes. The way Walsh and Hine spoke before Dawes actually nominated a club was as if he is 100% getting traded. Real poor from the club imo. I think it was Hine or Walsh that said, once we trade Wellingham and Dawes we should be about done and that was 2 weeks ago. I don't know why they want to get rid of him that fast.

Now Walsh is acting tough and saying it's our call. I have no doubt that if Melbourne offered pick 20 and it's last day of the trade period, Walsh would do that deal 100%
