From the rumours around the traps, it would appear that Collingwood is going to draft a ruckman from uncontracted players or from 2nd tier competitions. If you take Walsh at his word, it will be a draft rather than a trade.....i just saw the Pies connected to Martin in the SunHerald....maybe the strategy is to shake a few trees and then see who falls down

last time we shook trees we got wood :(

That's my vague understanding. So the question is, would he be gone by #45 + compo movement?

omg ...2 years!!!! sack em all !!!
You missed my point completely, i.e. some people have been saying that we should not worry about draft picks but should try to top up on experienced players in the way Sydney have while we are in our "premiership window." I was suggesting that we HAVE been doing this over the last few years, but have not managed a flag since 2010 & IMO are now slightly off the pace when comparing us with the Hawks, etc. Hence the brains trust have decided that we need to refresh the list via the draft PLUS we have added Lynch PLUS we will (hopefully) have a fit & firing Ball, Krak, Keeffe, etc. to add to the team. So IMO we are doing the right thing, and I still think we are a chance for the flag next year. Rather than having a go at the club I was having a dig at those suggesting we've blown our chance for 2013 with the trading of Dawes & Wellingham.

We are doing what Geelong has done for the last 8 years, which is building a great core of players whilst bringing in kids systematically to keep that window ajar longer than it ever should.

Along with Geelong, building internally with the use of terrific club officials, be it on field or off, with a clera vision, this clubs window will remain open for a while, which is why i think adding 3 first round picks periodically like we have this off season, for me, is a masterstroke.

Second this, Very pleased to see us taking this path.

which in turn continues to generate and maintain the massive member numbers which assist us greatly off the field. sustained long term success, even without a flag, does bring benefits only a minimum level of success can achieve.

funny thing is i can imagine carlscum in the near future being a club to advocate the cap on off-field spending, such is their predicament.

Terrific points which i forgot to add to my post.

With sound management, the process continues to roll on, forming a juggernaut that can't be stopped.

Perhaps im biased, but unless we make some reckless financial and managerial decisions, i dont see how this club will ever diminish back to the late 90s days.

Free agency, for me, has helped this club out enormously.

Unfortunately, i dont see how it has made it any easier for the smaller clubs.

As i've said before, the rich will just get richer, and thankfully for us, we're swimming in benjamins.

I agree Mark. Free agency helps a strong club like ours. We're a contending team, financially strong and well connected. Only the salary cap restrains us. Potentially we could add an experienced player each year to strengthen our 22 and fill holes. Just look at Geelong. They've lost Ottens and Scarlett and have replaced them. Yeah Rivers ain't Scarlett and H-Mac is coming off two marred seasons due to major injuries, but they are quality and better than the average player.

This is great news! I shall go to sleep tonight dreaming of the ball being delivered inside 50 lace out. Thank you Clinton Young, must have been a hard decision to make (if confirmed)

Pies will give Johnson 1 more year no way we will not offer him a contract

Tarrant Rounds and one more probably Buckley will go

We will use our first 3 picks and thats it i would say

Pies well done on securing Clinton Young.

Hi am hearing strong rumours Pies are really looking at Currie as a ruck option.Even heard we are even putting pick 45 on the block to get him.Hope we do,he was really undervalued at Sydney he is romping it in in the sanfl.

Very good prospect, very mobile and aggressive ruckman.Outside the norm he is our best option better. than Martin
Pies werev l;ooking at him 12 months ago but decided to stick with Wood.He is roughly the same age as Wood .looks like Wood could be onm the way out.

One stumbling block..................Adelaide are into him too.

All in all we lose Dawes and Wellingham we gain Quientin Lynch and Clinton Young.

We also get picks 17,18.20...............Excellent trade period thus far.If we can secure a good ruck option the pies are back baby !

Can't say I've seen much of Curie but mobile and aggressive are a good start.

Whilst we lost two premiership players, we have replaced them with two premiership players, so we lose no experience, which is a big thing for me.
