I would love Sam Reid at the Pies but I just can't see how it would pan out.

Why would Sydney give him up for Tippett??

He will be a much better player than Tippett. It just doesn't make sense.

There is some stuff brewing down at Westpac. We traded into the draft so we could then trade the picks. Melbourne's need and want for Dawes was greater than any other club, hence they paid overs. As did the Weagles for Wellers. This "Third" club involved in the Tippett deal is Collingwood. Make no mistake.

Assuming your mail is as good as you say it is, is there any chance that you can put my mind at ease in assuring me that we won't pick up the rookie selection grade Tom Hickey with Pick 21??

if it is even possible for us to get Sam Reid for 18 and 19 i wouldd be extremely happy!! this trade would finally seal it this years offseason would be better than the jolly, luke ball offseason of 09!!! reid would have been a huge piece along with young and lynch. with those three, ried, young and lynch plus (luke ball!), keefe and krakourer (all players in our best 22) back in the side we would have the 2013 premiership rapt up. ..............but then we have to face reality that its unlikely sydney do that deal, and would we be able to fit him in the cap?

Ultimately I just don't see Sydney trading out Reid. They just signed him on a 5 year deal so they are keen on him. Getting Tippett and losing Reid seems hardly worthwhile for them. Tippett is obviously a better player, but Reid has plenty of upside and is ultimately a member of their premiership team.

Don't buy into any of this. I think it's going to be a long week.

I agree, but ~80% of the board here seem happy to delist him with no coverage. If we pick up a Pederson/Martin I wouldnt be as concerned but Wood seems happy at Collingwood.....I guess why wouldnt he, probably on ~$300k and only goes to work 4-6 times a year.

This could all be crap but i am hearing that Hine doesn't rate this draft that high after the the first 10-15 picks anything after that is hit and miss.

Well it would involve Dawes because if he was still at the club I doubt we would try and get Reid.

We could still use the first rounder we got for Dawes to draft a young pacey midfielder.

Then we have a second round pick I trust Hine to find a gem with such as Fasolo etc

Wouldnt be against trading out those other 2 picks for Reid.

Would make the trade period a very successful one:

INS: Lynch, Young, Reid & Pick 20
OUTS: Wellingham, Dawes & Pick 18

In saying that... I think this is a definite long shot but who knows I guess.

Either way I would be happy to see the club do this or go to the draft.

Yep. Plus, we have gone long periods of time without a full-time ruck coach, which is hardly Dekka's fault.

Im not buying this for a second.

How could we possibly afford Reid?

He resigned for 5 years, of which you would have to think it would be around 500k at least. How do we squeeze him in without letting numerous of players out.

In the end, Sydney could get Tippett for free via the PSD draft.

Why lose Reid and actually try to get Adelaide the best deal possible when they hold all the cards and can bend them over the barrel?

Jolly = Established premiership ruckman requiring no U18 extrapolation of future worth. That is an MM / Walsh trade decision that was literally a no brainer. I'm not counting him for or against Hine any more than I'd count Chris Bryan or Leigh Brown as a fail or success.

Wood has failed, but is literally Hine's best choice to date.

Witts looks the goods in terms of potental, but you can't have expected a 18cm growth spurt in his draft year. As it stands, Witts was injured in his first draftable year and we didn't draft him. We were fortunate that we managed to wrangle him on another year under the scholarship banner which is nearer to dumb luck than good recruiting of a future big bodied ruckman.

Ceglar is chronically skinny. I doubt he will ever get over this. A Hine string bean special.

David Fanning was badly balanced and a string bean, rookied directly from basketball.

Thoolen was a raw athlete with KP ruck capabilities who was simply terrible.

If you believe rumours, we were heavily interested in Shaun Hampson, whos is at least built, but again an athlete rather than a footballer. Why the love for these athletes first type that are almost invariably a let down?

If the Hickey rumour is true, then it's yet another raw athlete type. I just don't get the facination with these types at all!

Yeah you could be right but,if sydney want to satisfy Adelaide pick 22 and jesse white won't do it our two picks will.
So sydney have a choice to make.after winning the flag i doubt Sydney would be that desperate,but you never know if Sam reid wants to come back to Vic and play with his brother at Collingwood maybe sydney may do the deal.

The 5 year Contract has me worried.
If I was looking at moving from Sydney to Victoria in the near future, would I sign a 5 year deal to remain at the club.....probably not! I love the idea of having Reid move and no doubt he would provide us with possibly the most dangerous forward line in the comp. Couple this with Clinton Young randomly kicking the ball to the top of the square from 60m out and...............aggghhhhhhhh I'm spent! Just couldn't get any better. We have good crumbers, good defensive forwards, the best midfielders/flankers in the comp so anything forward of the 50 most likely results in a scoring opportunity.
I havent been this excited for some time and i know that it's such a long bow to draw.

Sorry bloke, but you're not the source that I've been taking too much notice of...I mean you were expecting pick #4 from Melbourne for Dawes so I just sort of zoned out from there.

Yes you're right though that this does seem highly unlikely but I'm still willing to keep an open mind. The beauty is if we don't secure Reid we may very well still have 3 first round picks to play with which is exciting none the less.

You keep plugging away though dude!
