Wellingham can be a really good player but I just think his heart wasn't in it this year.

I agree about him being trade bait for a top liner. On the point of not breaking lines - he appears as more of a short burst player speedwise, like a Judd (not a shadow as good lol) rather than a true speedster like a Jetta or a Ronnie Wearmouth who just take off and keep accelerating half way down the fieldI don't really think he utilises his speed to break lines though.
If we had the chance to trade Wellingham for a player like Jetta or Hurn, we would be stupid not to.
It's nothing against Sharrod.... I think he's a great player and seems like a genuinely nice guy but it's all about making our "team" as good as possible and I think losing Sharrod may be what it takes to get the leverage we need.

Please explain?
I'd argue his value to us is far less than his value to other teams due to our abundance of players like him.
If we can get #17 and #18 then we have serious leverage to get a player like Hurn during trade period and/or get a seriously good player in the mould of a Jetta/Rioli type.
We keep Wellingham, we pay him $400k+, we have yet another inside/outside mid (Beams, Blair, Pendles, Swan, Elliot, D.Thomas, J.Thomas etc etc) and we still have obvious deficiencies in other areas.
Is it just me or do some people on this board seriously overrate Sharrod??

Rather than over rate him, I think most supporters think he's a valuable player but has potential to be closer to elite. Maybe he will never achieve that with us ( or with anyone else).
I agree with you that because we have an abundance of midfielders Sharrod is probably less valuable to us than he would be to other sides.
Side note: I thought Wellingham loved the Melbourne life and had no desire to head back West. I doubt he is pushing for that.
totally ill informed garbage, ignore it. hes coming along just fineFound this interesting

Basically in the going section list Gault in doubt! Has he really under performed to that level? Or is this just usual made up HUN info? VFl watchers what say you?

If it was Sharrod for Hurn, I wouldn't even blink before pulling the trigger!!!!
Hell yes!If it was Sharrod for Hurn, I wouldn't even blink before pulling the trigger!!!!
He'd fit in well at Melbourne. Hopefully the give us a first rounder.Seems to be pushing for money rather than the lifestyle as indicated by West Coast going cold due to his request of $400k+ over 4.
This is ridiculous money by the way.... There's no way I'd pay him that much if it were my team to manage.
Melbourne on the other hand seem to want him desperately and would probably be willing to give us a first rounder at a minimum.

Dekker has shown he can pick them lets give him some bullets.
Cloke CHF
Q FF moves into Ruck then have Swanny or Paine at FF
The twin towers was a joke this year need leading targets
Dawes more than likely gets first shot at FF, but with Lynch to play third big and Paine capable of coming along well after a full second pre-season to up his tank, he'd want to clunk a few more marks than his history of frustratingly weak handed efforts.Cloke - CHF
Dawes - FF
Qstick - 3rd Tall/2nd Ruck
Paine - Depth
No doubt but that's the point....why would we get rid of Dawes when Lynch fills a hole that we couldn't cover.Dawes more than likely gets first shot at FF, but with Lynch to play third big and Paine capable of coming along well after a full second pre-season to up his tank, he'd want to clunk a few more marks than his history of frustratingly weak handed efforts.
They absolutely would unless they also wanted Dawes.... Then it could get interesting.
Could we prize #4 away from melbourne in a trade involving Dawes and Wellingham?
Could be interesting. Obviously there'd need to be further movements in that trade but it could provide a base?
New Gleeson article with quotes from his agent:
Dawes to explore trade options

If Melbourne were crazy enough to give us a top 5 selection in the draft after the year they just had for Chris Dawes, i would very much be interested in that.
Well I be Very Dissapointed in Dawes IF true
Not just for Chris Dawes in that scenario.
I'd imagine Wellingham would have to be involved in that trade as well as some 2nd, 3rd round shufflings and maybe a player.
