I don't really think he utilises his speed to break lines though.
If we had the chance to trade Wellingham for a player like Jetta or Hurn, we would be stupid not to.

It's nothing against Sharrod.... I think he's a great player and seems like a genuinely nice guy but it's all about making our "team" as good as possible and I think losing Sharrod may be what it takes to get the leverage we need.
I agree about him being trade bait for a top liner. On the point of not breaking lines - he appears as more of a short burst player speedwise, like a Judd (not a shadow as good lol) rather than a true speedster like a Jetta or a Ronnie Wearmouth who just take off and keep accelerating half way down the field

Please explain?
I'd argue his value to us is far less than his value to other teams due to our abundance of players like him.

If we can get #17 and #18 then we have serious leverage to get a player like Hurn during trade period and/or get a seriously good player in the mould of a Jetta/Rioli type.

We keep Wellingham, we pay him $400k+, we have yet another inside/outside mid (Beams, Blair, Pendles, Swan, Elliot, D.Thomas, J.Thomas etc etc) and we still have obvious deficiencies in other areas.

Is it just me or do some people on this board seriously overrate Sharrod??
Rather than over rate him, I think most supporters think he's a valuable player but has potential to be closer to elite. Maybe he will never achieve that with us ( or with anyone else).
I agree with you that because we have an abundance of midfielders Sharrod is probably less valuable to us than he would be to other sides.

Side note: I thought Wellingham loved the Melbourne life and had no desire to head back West. I doubt he is pushing for that.

Yeah, that's what I mean.
We are after that genuine leg speed from the back half.
We have plenty of mids with burst acceleration.... Swan, Thomas, Beams etc

I'd actually be disappointed if the club didn't try and move him on.

Seems to be pushing for money rather than the lifestyle as indicated by West Coast going cold due to his request of $400k+ over 4.

This is ridiculous money by the way.... There's no way I'd pay him that much if it were my team to manage.
Melbourne on the other hand seem to want him desperately and would probably be willing to give us a first rounder at a minimum.

If it was Sharrod for Hurn, I wouldn't even blink before pulling the trigger!!!!
No, im with you.

I dont know what it is about him, but he has his fans.

Sharrod, despite being a good player, is someone who can be replaced in time.

Moving him on for a quality pick like 17, which can be used to get in a kid on a cheaper deal to ease salary cap pressure or can be on forwarded in another deal is a no brainer for me.

He is not in our best 6 mids, and wont be for the foreseeable future, therefore for me, he is expendable.

Fremantle apparently gone cold on Wellingham and WCE offer is the same as Pies.

Surely based on that Sharrod will stay?

Im hoping he stays. He is already set up here and is best 22 in a strong side. If he cannot get what he is asking for from elsewhere it seems logical that he stays with us.

Here's hoping.

He'd fit in well at Melbourne. Hopefully the give us a first rounder.

They absolutely would unless they also wanted Dawes.... Then it could get interesting.

Could we prize #4 away from melbourne in a trade involving Dawes and Wellingham?
Could be interesting. Obviously there'd need to be further movements in that trade but it could provide a base?

Dawes more than likely gets first shot at FF, but with Lynch to play third big and Paine capable of coming along well after a full second pre-season to up his tank, he'd want to clunk a few more marks than his history of frustratingly weak handed efforts.

No doubt but that's the point....why would we get rid of Dawes when Lynch fills a hole that we couldn't cover.
I'd say we are unlikely to trade anyone but Wellingham and the possible delisted candidates.

If Melbourne were crazy enough to give us a top 5 selection in the draft after the year they just had for Chris Dawes, i would very much be interested in that.

Not just for Chris Dawes in that scenario.
I'd imagine Wellingham would have to be involved in that trade as well as some 2nd, 3rd round shufflings and maybe a player.

True, but i was just imagining the lols in my head if they did that straight up.

After today's news, im now confident Wellers will stay. Dawes wont leave either.

I'm ******* over managers!
Boo hoo Dawes...have a cry cause there is some competition about now Lynch has arrived.
Collingwood must have someone else in mind to Play the 3rd tall/2nd ruck next season if they are happy to trade Dawes. Maybe Keeffe?

Hmmm...going to be interesting.

Im slightly leaning to the idea of letting him go.

Paine looms to be a better marking target and kicked some big bags in the VFL.
