If Paine can get in the weight room and put on a little bulk, play him all year.

He kicked a goal in every game he played this year, really liked his game against Fremantle.

Had 15 touches, kicked 2 goals and had 6 tackles. Would be very happy with that output every 2 or 3 games.

It could go either way: Dawesy might bounce back as a full-time forward, but again, I don't think his ceiling is that high. I could also easily see Dawes being in the two's half-way through next year and asking for a trade then.
If scenario two played out, better trade value now than then.

there is no other team
so Dawes is 'angry' ???

Maybe his manager should sit him down and play his 'highlights' reel from 2012.

We were very patient with him, prob too much so.

Wheres Cameron Wood and his manager in all of this? Dawes manager makes noise. Hello Cameron wake up, your playing the trade period like you play footy.

I trust the clubs list management. If we lose Dawes it will be our choice not his. He has a year to run on his contract so we will be well compensated, ease salary cap pressure and have an option in mind. Dawes cannot walk out on the club. It's a little different to Wellingham.

IMHO Dawes has never regained his confidence since his hand injury last year. 2010 was before the hand injury. Let's face it, Dawes was given more than enough opportunities this year to step up. Before he was dropped he needed fluid drained from his knee. The club is more in tune with his capabilities than BF.

From a list & structure point of view losing Dawes is a bad move. I am quite happy if we can restore the 2010 & 11 structure & balance - it works. Lynch is 2 year player (ala L. Brown) so even if he goes well in 2 years time we will have to have replaced Dawes & Lynch and we are back to square one unless guys like Paine and others can come in & get the job done - I am not sure I would be betting on this, its not worth the risk.

Lynch I see just as a fill until Witts/Ceglar/Gault can come in and take the role over - he is not a Dawes replacement, Dawes is 24 & plenty of time left in the game.

If a club like Melbourne want to throw a deal thats too good to refuse then maybe. If our salary cap is shot to bits, then maybe. This might be the price we have to pay for a good list, but I wouldn't be going out of my way otherwise.

That scenario doesn't help us in the slightest.
Get Lynch but lose Dawes.....pointless unless they have someone else in mind....

Unless Walshy's comment about Tippett....was smoke and mirrors?
I agree.... The whole reason I thought we went after Lynch was to implement the structure we were missing this year with Leigh Brown leaving and now if Dawes leaves we are back at square 1.....just doesnt make sense unless we have another target in mind Martin/Giles but we havent really gained as such.

What shits me about this board is that we discuss how important it is to regain the structure with going after that 3rd KPF/Ruckman to allow Dawes to return to FF and then we all now tell him he's a useless sook and can **** off......Dawes was played out of position and it showed but he kept giving each week at least. Paine, Ceglar, Witts etc...these guys arent ready IMO for a full season as a KPF/Ruckman adn got opportunities this year through injury and voids....

I don't want to see Dawes go and I certainly don't want to eat my own!

To be fair, although that would ostensibly appear to be the reason we went after Lynch, we're not privy to that information here on BF and if discussions with Bucks didn't go well, it's altogether possible that our assumption about the structure we were aiming for was wrong.

Unless we get Tippett Dawes stays. End of story. I would've thought Lynch could free Dawes up and that'd make him happy?
Either way, let's not get nasty on Dawes, he hasn't done anything wrong and he's done the right thing by us in the past. It just baffles me that he'd want to leave simply because of Lynch. Personally, I think it's garbage. Unless he can get an extra 200k+ elsewhere he'll stay. Probably just his manager testing the waters.

I want my FWD line of Cloke, Dawes and Lynch thank you very much.

The only thing that upsets me is that Dawesy did the right thing by us last season and took unders to stay and 12 months on we really aren't repaying his show of faith and loyalty.

I just hope this doesn't send a bad message to the rest of our playing group.

Hopefully Wellingham stays now.

Agree with him showing loyalty to stay at the club -

Fact is his form was very poor this year. Understand he had injury concerns but does that really help you when the club is in premiership mode?

Hasn't been in form since early/mid 2011, had the hand issue, didn't fire a shot in a GF. No influence from a KPP in a GF is horrendous regardless of why. Costs you dearly.

Everyone has their price, clubs need to be smart and know when to fold em'. Look at dorks with offloading Rawlings, hay, Thompson and how they landed a host of picks to rebuild. Pies don't need to rebuild but they can stock up whilst in contention.

Buckley is a coach big on skills - dropped chest marks etc would make him lose faith bit by bit. Dawes and Wellingham could both reap first round picks and provide salary cap relief. With lynch now coming in you won't miss a beat if they go.

I doubt we'll be getting a 1st rounder for Dawes....as you said his form this year doesn't warrant anymore that at pick between 30-40. Wellingham should get a 1st rounder....should.

Fair enough, but I'm sure the club openly has stated that our #1 trade target this season would be a Leroy Brown replacement. You can't tell me Dawes hasnt seen this. It allows Dawes to play his natural game at FF, pretty sure Dawes doesnt want to be chasing the pill around the ground as a back-up ruck so it makes litle sense to me unless we are targeting someone else

So we've basically told Melbourne 'hit me' regarding offers for Dawes.
This obviously means we have a backup plan if he does the dirty and walks out on us. But who?
That's the thing.... He can't!!
Hence us holding ALL the cards.
The only thing he could do is retire......

EDIT: Actually even then, can he?

Apparently WA clubs have gone cold on Wellingham.

Melbourne gunning hard for him, despite Sharrod having no interest to go there.

Looking likely he will stay.

How about we send him there anyway....
We don't need him!!
What we do need is a high draft pick to use next week.

Well he can still be traded, but we'd need to pay out his contract.
pay out his contract? no we wont. You only ever have to pay out a contract if a) you delist a player and is still under contract or b) he is traded and you are willing to pay some of his contract if the other club doesnt want to pay the full amount otherwise if traded then a new contract is created.
No way we would trade him and pay some of his contract
