I think if anything last week has shown that it is likely free agency will make it easier to get seasoned players for a couple of years. We can replace Lynch (and Jolly if needs be) through free agency when we need to.

That's also an option- as I said, the likelihood on us requiring another tall is contingent on whether Dawes is traded or not. We need another tall long term, which we can address via FA (or the draft), as you said.

If Dawes goes however, we also need to think about 2013. IF Jolly happened to get injured, particularly in September, then we'd have Lynch playing first ruck (or Wood, but that is painful to think about). It's conceivable that one of Ceglar or Witts might be ready to play next year, but we're only guessing at the moment. If Jolly went down, then Lynch becomes his replacement (or Wood), Ceglar/Witts/Wood take the Leroy Brown role, and I'd presume Paine would be playing Dawes' role..

Seems to be gaining legs posted by a Adelaide supporter with apparent inside info or something :S

Put it together man. Disgruntled Crows supporter wants you to think your other tall forward is being stolen from under you by the trade monsters.

Interesting option, but why would they trade him out?

It's unlikely, but there is a logic to it..

To get Tippett, Sydney are going to have to give up something valuable. They have pick #22 in the draft which will not be sufficient, and they're usually reluctant to trade players they value unless they consider them outside their best 22 (eg Schneider, Dempster, Buchanan).

Reid signed a massive deal with them, but had a disappointing year. He really looms as a second tall up forward, rather than a key forward that you can build a forward line around (eg Cloke). It's possible that they may view Tippett as being more capable of providing a focal point than Reid is, and will cut their cloth accordingly.

They'd probably prefer to retain both, but they need to find something valuable for Tippett. Obviously Reid's brother plays for us, and if Dawes departs we may be looking for a second tall forward.. presumably we'd have to send something substantial to Adelaide as part of a three-way trade. Possibly a four-way trade if the Dawes and/or Wellingham deal/s are included. These are all hypotheticals, more than likely just rumours rather than fact- but you never know.

If we were to pick up Reid, I'd fairly happily trade out Wellingham and Dawes to make salary room for Reid, who I rate highly as a forward. Reid would never be accused of not being able to take an overhead mark, like the someone who may or may not be featured in my username. Sydney just signed him for 5 years so it's hard to imagine that he would be trade-able - unless Tippett is seen as rendering Reid superfluous to the new forward structure, but appealing to a Dawes-less Collingwood, which he would be.

However, Reid is young, with upside oozing like juice from a ripe mango in his thickening frame. He appears a more solid build than his brother, which may explain his earlier impact on AFL. In the current battle for Tippett's signature and Adelaide's blessing, Collingwood could do worse than make a major play for Sam, whose position at Sydney is not totally dissimilar to that of Dawes, in that it is no longer guaranteed.

Personally, I see Sydney offering Rohan before Reid for trade, but the club has surely got to part with someone of value to secure Tippett.

Incidentally, both Tippett and Wellingham's managers have served their client's interests but not their clubs with their '2nd or 3rd rounder' and the supposed agreeement of Tippett with Adelaide to release him for a 2nd round pick comments.

Reid is certainly not superfluous to our forward stucture. Definitely guaranteed a game week in week out.

This rumour is only taking hold on the Adelaide board and as such taken with a grain of salt. Required player etc.

despite what some people want to believe, i really dont think we will be able to get a big name through a trade/free agency for a year or two, our salary cap is just too stretched as is.

Heard this morning on Hot Breakfast that both Dawes AND Wellingham could be heading to Melbourne.

Not sure how that would work. Why would Wellingham leave us to go to Melbourne?

Also, Sam Reid? No way. Not happening.

Wellingham doesnt want to go to melbourne but hes not a free agent so if the club gets a better offer than west coast its bye bye Sharrod......simple

Melbourne have offered him the most $$ from what I understand, money talks.

Really?

I wouldn't have thought extra $$ would make so much difference to the lifestyle of a 24 year old AFL footballer'? And the taxman will take 45 cents in the dollar of any extra money he gets.

But, the lifestyle change of going home ...

Geoff Walsh has confirmed this morning that Melbourne FC have put pick 4 on the table for Wellingham and Dawes.

Geoff Walsh has also stated that Collingwood will not pursue Caddy and has rubbished claims the pies would straight swap Quensland defender, Lachie Keefe for him.

Walsh has also said Wellingham could still be at Collingwood next year or traded elsewhere if west coast can't come up with a deal.

Reliability of this site can be questionable...
